So Barcelona name the same team as the first leg, except for the injured Sergio Busquets, who is replaced by 31-year-old French defender Jeremy Mathieu. Javier Mascherano moves into midfield.

Manchester City go for a less open approach then the first leg with Yaya Toure back in the side after suspension and playing in a five-man midfield behind Sergio Aguero. Bacary Sagna is in for the dropped Pablo Zabaleta, while Aleksandar Kolarov and Fernandinho replace the suspended Gael Clichy and Fernando.

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen, Alves, Alba, Piqué, Mathieu, Mascherano, Rakitic, Iniesta, Suárez, Messi, Neymar.

Manchester City XI: Hart, Sagna, Kolarov, Kompany, Demichelis, Toure, Nasri, Fernandinho, Milner, Silva, Aguero.

A neat contrast in the players' attire this evening. Barcelona's players arrived in leather jackets and jeans, with City decked out in club suits and ties.

Manchester City face an uphill task to make it through tonight. The hopes of the Premier League rest with them after Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all crashed out.

It wasn't always this way. Remember the heady days of the late 2000s when the Premier League bossed Europe? Or the even headier days of the 1970s and early 80s when English sides won it six years in a row. Younger readers may be alarmed to learn that Nottingham Forest won it twice and Aston Villa even picked up the trophy.

    Champions League semi finalists 2009/10-2013/14

It is only three years since Chelsea won the trophy. But where is the next Premier League side to win it coming from? What's gone wrong? Can the English sides compete with the Spanish and German giants?

Or is there nothing to worry about? The Premier League is the best in the world and there's absolutely no reason for alarm?

Burnley were excellent at the weekend as they made light work of the champions - but in all honesty it was the dearth of quality on display from City which made all of the difference.

Tonight they may not be facing Ashley Barnes, Danny Ings and Sam Vokes. But the rickety City backline will instead have to cope with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

They've scored 82 goals between them this season. Not too shabby...

    Lionel Messi & Sergio Aguero

With so many superstars on one pitch tonight's game, it is unlikely to boil down to just two key men. But Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi could provide the goals their sides need.

Aguero scored in the first leg and has found the net 11 goals in his last 10 Champions League games. If City are to have a chance, he probably has to score.

Messi is, well, Messi. He scores. All the time.

Manuel Pellegrini was "lucky" to inherit a strong Manchester City side and should be winning titles every year, says former boss Roberto Mancini.

City are behind Chelsea in the Premier League and trail Barcelona 2-1 heading into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, with Pellegrini's future the subject of much speculation.

"Pellegrini was lucky because he got a strong team," Mancini told CNN.

"I think City should and must try to win a title every year."

City manager Manuel Pellegrini claims his job is not under threat as they prepare to face the Spaniards.

An exit from the competition could see his position come under more scrutiny as City struggle to defend their Premier League title.

But the 61-year-old said: "I don't think my seat is in danger. We're second in the table, still strong and are going to fight."

He added that even if his position was under threat, he "wouldn't do anything differently, I would do the same thing and focus on the game".

Luis Suarez's brace at the Etihad last month means that Manchester City need to score twice tonight.

The good news is that they at least have colossus Yaya Toure available after a lengthy Champions League ban.

The bad news is that the only English club to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp in the Champions League since 1992-93 are Liverpool. It was in February 2007 (2-1).
