Nelson Oppong: Ghana is in some really bad shape. Solomon Asante and Wakaso Mubarak needed.

BBC Sport's Matthew Kenyon in Mongomo

"An awful lot of people have gone to get a snack/drink at half-time. Not the most enthralling game and now there are empty seats in most sections of the ground."

We're thankful Matthew has decided to brave the second half.

Jonathan Mensah finds Harrison Afful with an excellent raking crossfield pass but the Ghana full-back chests it straight out of play. Then up the other end, Yacine Brahimi miscontrols Ishak Belfodil's flick-on. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

Kwame Adika: All good Ghanaians WANT Ghana to lose today, and I am one of them. Go Algeria, we love you here in Accra.

Awal Fuseini on text (81111): People claiming to be Ghanaians on the BBC website want Ghana to lose. They are probably dual citizens, I doubt their loyalty.

Jordan Ayew picks up the ball on the left and tries to cut inside Aissa Mandi via a few stepovers but the Algeria full-back does well to block his shot.

Zambia and Southampton striker Emmanuel Mayuka injured himself stretching for the ball in yesterday's defeat by Tunisia.

And it has now emerged that he has only a 50% chance of playing any further part at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations because of the groin injury.

Chipolopolo must beat Cape Verde for any chance of a quarter-finals spot.

On a serious note, Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff yesterday received the sad news that his mother had died. However the Frenchman has chosen to attend today's match against Ghana.

The Algerian Football Federation said on its website: "The federation and the players present their deepest condolences to Christian Gourcuff."

It is not clear whether the 59-year-old will travel to France for his mother's funeral or remain at the tournament.

Algeria's third and final Group C match is against Senegal on Tuesday.

"Madjid Bougherra and co at the back for Algeria are keeping Asamoah Gyan very quiet. Christian Atsu down the right has created the odd opportunity for Ghana but we've not seen much of Jordan/Dede Ayew at the moment. And on the left Afriyie Acquah is living really dangerously - on a yellow already. But I like the way Jonathan Mensah and Daniel Amartey have kept Algeria's dangerous front men at bay. Not a pretty game... but so much at stake."

Festus Abrah-Yeboah: Ghana is now playing with much purpose and Algeria have held their own. One should expect a thrilling end to the game.

    We admire your optimism Festus!

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Mercifully, the referee opts against allowing any added time. An absolute stinker of a 45 minutes.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Madjid Bougherra comes out of defence and cynically blocks off the run of Afriyie Acquah. An arm around the shoulder fails to dissuade the referee from showing the Algeria skipper a yellow card.

  17. Postpublished at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

Ghana go close for the first time. The ball is rolled into Christian Atsu in the penalty area and he touches it inside to Asamoah Gyan, but the striker's shot is well blocked by Madjid Bougherra's last-ditch lunge.

You're not far wrong there, Richie - there's not been much quality on show so far. As if to illustrate my point, Ghana right-back Harrison Afful smashes a cross straight out of play.

Richie Driss: So far this is probably the worst match in the history of the universe.

  20. Postpublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2015

We've not seen much of Christian Atsu so far but the Ghana winger almost produces a piece of magic here, jinking his way past two lunging Algeria defenders before a third challenge finally brings his mazy run to a halt.
