Did you know? Senegal has a 12 mile exclusive fishing zone that has been regularly breached in recent years. It has been estimated that the country's fishermen lose 300,000 tonnes of fish each year to illegal fishing.

The Senegalese government have tried to control the illegal fishing which is conducted by trawlers, some of which are registered in Russia, Mauritania, Belize and Ukraine.

So Cisse is on and there is still hope. Senegal are not used to losing this fixture.

Cisse's first involvement sees him nearly get on the end of a Mame Biram Diouf cut-back. A defender is brave and hastily concedes a corner. A glimmer of positivity from Senegal here though. Have they woken up?

  3. Postpublished at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Jordan Ayew's weak shot has South Africa goalkeeper Nhlanhla Khuzwayo scrambling to turn the ball wide. The resulting corner is cleared.

Ghana have won the Africa Cup of Nations four times - in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982 - equal with Cameroon and bettered only by Egypt.

As the first winner of three Nations Cup tournaments, Ghana obtained the right to permanently hold the trophy in 1978.

The Black Stars have qualified for the tournament 19 times in total, finishing as runners-up four times, third once, and fourth three times.

They haven't finished worse than fourth since 2008 but haven't won since 1982 Work to be done this year though as they are heading out unless they can find a goal.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Papiss Cisse, the Newcastle marksman, gets his first minutes of the tournament.

He is capable of the outlandish as we know and it's a positive change as striker replaces midfielder. Papa Diop is off.

Ghana are still huffing and puffing but without really creating an awful lot. South Africa have to be careful not to drop too deep though.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Algeria can afford to kill this game. A free-kick deep in the Senegal half gets played all the way back to the goalkeeper at the other end.

In truth, Algeria have been ordinary here but no more has been needed with the exception of some good defending late in the first half.

A yellow card for Saphir Taider though. He fouled Mame Biram Diouf and the referee seems fed up of stoppages so sets an example.

  8. CLOSE!published at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Mame Biram Diouf is a human climbing frame and Carl Medjani is penalised for the foul. That's a free kick in a good area for Senegal.

Papa Souare - the first-half substitute - has a swing but it's an easy gather for the keeper.

Algeria won five matches in the Nations Cup qualifiers in a seamless leadership transition as Christian Gourcuff (pictured) took over as coach from Vahid Halilhodzic, who orchestrated their fine World Cup run.

But they survived a missed penalty which would have put them two down to South Africa in their opener - eventually winning 3-1 - and lost to Ghana on matchday two.

This is a return to form and somewhat timely.

  14. Magic pills for back pain?published at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Diafra Sakho has taken a "miraculous medicine" according to Senegal national coach Alain Giresse.

The West Ham striker pulled out of Africa Cup of Nations duty for his country with a back injury, but played and scored as the Hammers beat Bristol City on Sunday.

"When you cannot fly for six weeks and then suddenly you're playing a football game, there must be miraculous medicine in England," said Giresse.

"This sets a dangerous precedent because you're going to have players claiming they cannot catch planes to Africa but who can still play football."

  15. Quarter-final movespublished at 18:56 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

BBC Sport's Nick Cavell has been following this story in Africa:

  16. Quarter-final venue switchpublished at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Equatorial Guinea's Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Tunisia has been moved from Ebebiyin to Bata, to be played on Saturday at 16:00 GMT.

And Sunday's quarter-final between the Group C winners and Group D runners-up has moved from Mongomo to Malabo.

Deteriorating pitches in Ebebiyin and Mongomo prompted the switch.

Confused as to who needs what to qualify from Group C? You aren't the only ones. As we stand though, as the table above shows, Algeria go through as group winners with Senegal also through on goal difference.

BBC Sport's Matthew Kenyon in Mongomo: A magnificent strike to go in front and Bafana could be further ahead. Ghana have huffed and puffed but they haven't been able to break through yet. But the tension amongst the SA fans is split - focused here in Mongomo and on that other match in Malabo. It could be a complicated end to the evening!

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

A good half of football. Not many clear-cut openings but plenty of shots from range, a goal and it is now nicely poised.

Algeria probably deserve the advantage but some good defending and goalkeeping by the Desert Warriors have been needed late in the half.

  20. CLOSE!published at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

How important could this block be from Nabil Bentaleb. A quick free kick is taken, creating shooting space but the Tottenham midfielder slides in for Algeria to execute a timely block.
