"You can sense the nerves and tension among the home supporters and that's filtering through to the pitch. There needs to be a collective spirit around the club to try to lift them out of this slump they are in."

Bristol City could go top until Monday at least - when leaders Swindon face Coventry - and they are on course to do so. They are 1-0 up against Notts County after Joe Bryan scored from a Jay Emmanuel-Thomas assist.

Rochdale lead Bradford 1-0 with Peter Vincenti scoring from the rebound after Ian Henderson hit the crossbar with a penalty. Bantams keeper Jordan Pickford was sent off in conceding the spot-kick.

Crawley lead MK Dons with Izale McLeod scoring a penalty - against his former club - that he won himself.

Championship leaders Bournemouth continue their march towards the Premier League - they lead Norwich, with new manager Alex Neil watching, with Matt Ritchie scoring a fantastic volley.

Cardiff, back in blue again, lead Fulham 1-0 as Sean Morrison's header crosses the line after Marcus Bettinelli failed to keep it out.

Birmingham look set to continue their climb up the table as they now lead Wigan 2-0 with Clayton Donaldson doubling his lead from close range.

BBC Sport's Chris Bevan at Turf Moor

"The QPR fans had been making all the noise in the first few minutes but that superb solo strike by Scott Arfield, his first goal since the opening day of the season, silenced them.

"Falling behind has sparked the visitors into life on the pitch, however: Adel Taarabt, playing off Charlie Austin, is starting to see more of the ball and Joey Barton is making his presence felt in midfield.

"Their improvement almost brought them an equaliser too - Austin just hit the post from Mauricio Isla's cutback, before Leroy Fer fired narrowly wide."

West Ham's first effort on goal produces only mocking jeers from the home fans as Carl Jenkinson wallops high and handsome from a tight angle.

Kevin Nolan is a little closer from the edge of the box a minute later, but the Hammers are not showing much attacking threat.

Neither have Swansea though after Bafetimbi Gomis's early opening.

Manchester City midfielders Fernando and Fernandinho are providing a solid shield for the visitors, so the visitors go long and lump it forward to Romelu Lukaku but the Belgian comes out second-best in a physical tussle with Eliaquim Mangala.

Best chance of a fairly drab game as Saido Berahino plays a one-two with Stephane Sessegnon but drags his shot wide from no more than 10 yards. At the other end, Jake Livermore's deflected effort goes over, but no corner given. Half chances, but no shots on target as yet...

Rob Green makes a good save, getting down low to make a one-handed stop and prevent a free-kick from evading everyone and sneaking in at the far post.

"David Silva at the heart of everything Manchester City are doing well, but their three chances they have all come from Everton mistakes. Roberto Martinez has to sort that out."

Yet again, Stevan Jovetic drags a shot wide - this time from the edge of the area. However, Everton didn't pick up the striker's movement as he dropped deep. David Silva involved in the build-up, and he holds the key today.

  12. CLOSE!published at 15:19 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2015

Chelsea's defence is looking very nervous, very nervous indeed as Newcastle twice go close in as many minutes. First, Ayoze Perez just fails to get to Paul Dummett's cross before Remy Cabella sees a goal-bound shot deflected wide by John Terry.

"Newcastle have been the better team. Chelsea's passing has been poor, and Jose Mourinho looks a very tetchy and frustrated man on the touchline."

That's the way to do it. Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski comes barging off his line, scattering West Ham bodies, to claim a free-kick floated into the Swansea box. Commanding stuff.

Swansea are not shirking the physical stuff.

Chief football writer Phil McNulty at Goodison Park

"Scrappy stuff here at Goodison Park but Everton winger Aiden McGeady - a player who can filed under "frustrating" - already feeling some heat from the crowd. Everton's over-passing in defence has already threatened to cause them big trouble - and will eventually if it carries on."

It is already getting tasty between Ashley Williams and the West Ham front pair. The Swansea captain clambers all over the back of Andy Carroll to give away a free-kick and then manhandles Enner Valencia to the floor as they wait for the delivery.

Referee Mike Dean issues a stern ticking-off. He has his hands full this afternoon.

"Jesus Navas has to be scoring or at least hitting the target from there. But another attack from Manchester City which came from an Everton mistake."

  18. Postpublished at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2015

A lovely flowing Spanish move almost gets Manchester City off the mark but Jesus Navas drags his effort wide from eight yards out on the angle after David Silva's pass. City just shading things so far.

    Garth Crooks on Final Score

"It's a great bit of work by Scott Arfield, he comes in off the left-hand side and comes in between Steven Caulker. It's a terrific finish and it's really put QPR on the back foot now. What are they going to do? They've got to come forward and take risks."

  20. CLOSE!published at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2015

Oh dear! David Nugent is handed an absolutely glorious chance by Marc Albrighton. The former Villa man had scampered away down the left before feeding a low ball straight into the path of Nugent who, with just Brad Guzan to beat, somehow slices wide.

He was stretching to reach it, but you've really got to be putting those away.
