"I think Shane Long could come on for Southampton in place of Elia, who has had a good debut, in around 10 minutes and make an impact with his pace and really stretch that United back three."

"Smalling has got to be careful. He keeps grabbing Pelle by the shirt at set-pieces and twice already this half, he has tried to get a hold of him and Phil Dowd has got to be aware of that."

One of the biggest talking points of this dull game so far....Chris Smalling grabbing Graziano Pelle's shirt. Not once. Not twice. But three times.

"What a block from Luke Shaw. He's getting a round of applause from David De Gea and he's absolutely thrown himself in front of the ball and Pelle's attempted strike. Great effort."

Luke Shaw comes to Manchester United's rescue with a well-timed tackle just as Graziano Pelle is about to shoot. Shaw is in discomfort after that but he's saved his team there. Pelle a real threat and Chris Smalling is playing a dangerous game by grabbing his shirt. The referee has yet to intervene.

Southampton come storming out of the blocks. Early corner for the visitors...but it comes to nothing. Early signs of promise at least.

Southampton will fancy nicking this. Manchester United's fans were becoming agitated towards the end of the half. How long into the second-half before they properly lose patience?

Stephen Morley:, external I'd like these 45 minutes of my life back please.

Matt Harding:, external Southampton's best work this half has been shackling Juan Mata. He's had no time on the ball.

Jay:, external The only way this match can get interesting is if Southampton score first. Snooze-fest otherwise

The first half stats make poor reading - particularly if you're a Manchester Untied fan. Two shots on goal from either side, but neither side yet to get one on target. Remind me, how much did a ticket for this match cost?

Stalemate in every sense. Few chances, almost zero entertainment. It can only get better.
