Jamie Thompson:, external Massive respect to Tottenham's travelling 5,500 in the snow. Unbelievable support tonight. From a jealous Gooner.

Ashley Bennett:, external I get the feeling Nigel Clough would be more successful if he referred to everyone as young man.

TomSt:, external Looks like they still haven't taught Erik Lamela what "man on" means.

End to end stuff. A Sheffield United attack breaks down and Spurs charge forward through Ryan Mason who unleashes a dipping shot that tests Mark Howard.

A minute into the game at the Vicente Calderon and Atletico are in front - and level in the tie - as Fernando Torres scores a fine goal via the inside of the post. Game on.

We haven't even had 20 minutes and Nigel Clough looks exhausted already. The United boss is screaming at his players. Something along the lines of "keep the ball". That's the clean version, anyway.

Tricia in Portsmouth: Watching live updates from hospital bed with our new 7lb Spurs fan. If only he knew of the lifetime of football "if onlys" and "nearlys" ahead. COYS!

Heavy snow now. If Tottenham score first then it could leave Sheffield United with too much to do. The visitors are enjoying lots of possession, with Kyle Walker allowed to charge unchallenged into the area before forcing a save.

This is bubbling nicely. Harry Kane tests Blades keeper Mark Howard but the hosts have their tails up after going close earlier.

Ben Poch:, external Trust Poch. His team selection is strange I will admit that but he has won so many away games by scoring in the last minute.

"It's precisely what we said before the game! Spurs keeper Michel Vorm is under pressure and he drops it again. He caught the cross but as he landed the ball bounced off the striker's head. Sheffield United should have scored.

"Vorm is under pressure and that's a big mistake right at the start of the game."

    So close for Sheffield United!

Spurs keeper Michel Vorm makes a horrible mess while under pressure from Stefan Scougall and the ball falls to Jamie Murphy whose close range shot is hacked off the line by Kyle Walker.

"Nigel Clough is fuming. Erik Lamela cleaned out Jose Baxter off the ball right in front of the dugouts but it was on the blindside of the referee Michael Dean."

The weather might be awful but there's a brilliant atmosphere inside Bramall Lane. Spurs continue to enjoy the better of the opening exchanges. Michel Vorm has yet to be tested in the Spurs goal.

Positive start by Spurs. A strong Harry Kane run into the home area results in a hurried clearance before Erik Lamela fires wildly over the bar. They might be one up from the first leg but the visitors want to put this to bed quickly.

  15. Weather updatepublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2015

BBC Weather presenter Alex Deakin: "Showers are currently heading across the Pennines, some of these are likely to affect Bramall Lane during the game. Temperatures are currently just above freezing, and these showers may start off as rain or sleet but will probably turn to snow through the game. Hard to say how much snow will fall exactly, but hopefully won't disrupt the game significantly."

Warm handshakes and pats on the back between Nigel Clough and Mauricio Pochettino. But will it be Argentina or England punching the air in celebration at the end of this?

  19. Postpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2015

They might be in the third tier but Bramall Lane has a Premier League atmosphere to it as the teams emerge from the tunnel. It's standing room only.

Hats off to Tottenham's travelling fans. There's 5,500 of them at Bramall Lane. That's a terrific effort for a long midweek journey to the snowy north. They're currently being entertained to some 90s trance music over the speakers. Kick-off is five minutes away.
