12:48 GMT 31 January 2015Leeds have taken a 1-0 lead in the Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield. Midfielder Samuel Bryam chipping over goalkeeper Joe Murphy, after being set up by Luke Murphy, at the John Smith's Stadium.
Middlesbrough may have the best defensive record in the league but the back four are being set a real test by Brentford. Stuart Dallas has struck the post and with the rebound heading straight to a team-mate the ball hit the back of beaten goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos and bounced clear. Still 0-0.

BBC Radio 5 live at KC Stadium"As expected Newcastle are playing a 4-2-3-1 formation. Hull manager Steve Bruce has chopped and changed a bit this season, but it looks pretty much like an orthodox 4-4-2. When Bruce starts to get some of his key players back I think they will have enough to drag themselves out of trouble. For Newcastle, John Carver will be desperate for that first win now he has the manager's job until the end of the season."

12:47 GMT 31 January 2015A bright start for the hosts as Andrew Robertson drives in a shot from the left flank. Straight at goalkeeper Tim Krul though, who collects after an initial fumble.
The Tigers have failed to score in 10 of their last 14 league matches, how they would love an early goal.

Match of the Day commentator"If pride in the post counts for anything, the likeable John Carver would be awarded a deal for life, but if he is to prove the real deal he needs some wins on his CV.
"His latest bid sees him in direct confrontation with another Geordie who was strongly touted as Pardew's replacement. Steve Bruce's love for Newcastle United is well documented but the man himself quickly distanced himself from the speculation, instead stressing he had a job to do at Hull City. Doesn't he just?!
"Eighteenth in the table with 19 points to their name, the Tigers are in exactly the same position as they were at the same stage of the 2009-10 season when they were relegated.
"Five of their last seven games have ended in defeat and, to make matters worse, they're losing players to injury at an alarming rate."
Carver the "sensible choice"published at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015
12:42 GMT 31 January 2015Former England captain Alan Shearer, Football Focus
"I think it was the obvious decision to give it to John Carver. I think Newcastle went out and spoke to other managers but they are not available, for whatever reasons.
"Carver knows the players, he knows the place, and it was the sensible choice to give it to him for the rest of the season. Unless he has a great run of results I don't think he'll get the job permanently, because I think they have their heart set on another man."
Hull would be a great place to get that first win...

12:38 GMT 31 January 2015Hosts Brentford are piling the pressure on Middlesbrough at Griffin Park as both side seek to move into the top two. Bees midfielder Jota has stung the hands of goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos from a well worked set piece and from the resulting corner Boro captain Grant Leadbitter cleared a James Tarkowski shot off the line. The game remains goalless.
Huddersfield and Leeds have just kicked-off in a tasty West Yorkshire derby.

Former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton on BBC Radio 5 live: "Newcastle have done the right thing in giving John Carver the job until the end of the season. I do think he will be replaced in the summer by another manager. You have to admire him, he's put his hand up and says he wants the job.
"If he finished in the top 10 and they finish the season strongly he'll have a chance. But the feeling seems to be that Newcastle will replace him in the summer. The manager has always been someone who is aloof, and the assistant manager is almost the go between and he'll get the mood of the players. It becomes hard if you have that closeness when you get the job.
"John Carver has the belief he can do the job and it will all comes down to results at the end of the day."

Former Everton assistant manager Steve Round on BBC Radio 5 live: "It's much easier to be at the club and be a number two then leave to become the number one and the main man at another club, rather than be promoted from to the top job within.
"But if the opportunity comes up for you like it has for John Carver you have to grab it at both hands. A lot dependson the leader you are replacing if the number two does not have the same leadership style.
"If you have a strong philosophy it's so engrained with the how the club will play. You only have to look at Liverpool with Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan to see that you can promote from within if that philosophy exists."
John Carver has been given the manager's job at Newcastle until the end of the season.

"Sturridge return like a new signing"published at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015
12:34 GMT 31 January 2015Former Wales striker John Hartson
Football Focus"Daniel Sturridge is missing that bit of sharpness because he has been away, but technically he is excellent, the runs that he makes are excellent and Liverpool have certainly missed him. It will be like a new signing, him coming back into the side. Interestingly enough, Liverpool have scored 22 goals less this season than they had at this stage last season."
Can there be any more welcome sight for Liverpool fans than a returning Daniel Sturridge. The striker is expected to play some part today, don't forget team news will be on this page at about 14:00 GMT.
City lacking leadershippublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015
12:32 GMT 31 January 2015Former England captain Alan Shearer
Football Focus"Manchester City have been struggling at defending set pieces. There was one against Everton and one against Sunderland where they were not picking up their men at all. There is a real lack of leadership at the back, and if they defend like that today against Chelsea they will be punished."
"City have to avoid defeat"published at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015
12:31 GMT 31 January 2015Former Wales striker John Hartson
Football Focus"If Chelsea win today they will be eight points clear with 15 games to go. That would put them in a really strong position. They would have to lose three out of their remaining games, to give Manchester City any chance of catching them. Can you see Chelsea doing that? I'm not so sure. City have to avoid defeat today at the very least."
Costa too hot to handlepublished at 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015
12:30 GMT 31 January 2015Football Focus
BBC SportChelsea defender Gary Cahill: "I played against twice Diego Costa last season when he was at Atletico Madrid. He is what defenders would call a handful. He puts his foot in and makes it difficult and uncomfortable. I think it's his character, it's the way he plays. Will he change it? Probably not, and I don't think he should. As a team-mate, he is someone you want in your team."
Don't forget Mr Costa will not be involved this evening against Manchester City, thanks to a three-match ban picked up for stamping. Advantage City perhaps?
Diego or Sergio?published at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015
12:28 GMT 31 January 2015Former England captain Alan Shearer, Football Focus
Former Newcastle and England captain Alan Shearer: "Diego Costa will go and stand on you, will want to try and pull you around, but what Sergio Aguero does brilliantly is find space for himself.
"He has such ability, finds gaps in-between defenders and always willing and wanting to run in behind. And he's a top, top finisher. A top player also, but Aguero is not a main centre-forward. As a traditional striker, Costa is the best in the league for me."
