Chelsea defender Gary Cahill on Football Focus: "This is a mouth-watering tie for the neutral, and it's one we're looking forward to and we're ready for. Is a draw at home a good result, or just an OK result? We just need not to lose the game. In terms of the Premier League, this is the biggest game of the season. To win the league would be unbelievable - I've never done it before."

Former Newcastle and England captain Alan Shearer: "I love Diego Costa - I think he's ideally suited to our league. I'd rather have him in my team than any other forward in the Premier League.

"He can't be bullied, yes he plays on the edge but you have to accept that with him. It's part of his makeup, his character, But he will have to cut it out because referees know now what he's about.

"But you can't push him about, and I think he can do everything. He is perfect for our league - no centre-half will bully him, and that's a good thing."

  4. Costa has to cut out the cynical stuffpublished at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015

    Former Wales striker John Hartson

"Diego Costa is fantastic, but it was a clear stamp on Emre Can. I would tell Costa to change only one thing. Be aggressive, but control it. Cut out the cynical stuff, because he is out for three games now with suspension. He has cost his team."

  5. Manager viewpublished at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015

Hull City boss Steve Bruce on BT Sport: "For a club like ours we always know round the corner could be a tough time. We have been hampered by injuries and I have always said with a few back we will be ok.

"We are trying to bring a couple in. We have agreed a fee with the big Senegalese striker and talks going on with Spurs as we speak. They are in a forward area and they would give everyone a lift."

  6. N'Doye and Lennon to Hull?published at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015

Hull boss Steve Bruce confirms the club have agreed a transfer fee with Lokomotiv Moscow for Senegal striker Dame N'Doye and that they are in talks with Tottenham about the possible loan signing of winger Aaron Lennon.

  8. Postpublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2015

Newcastle manager John Carver on BT Sport: "It has been a strange few days. I am honoured and delighted. It has been a difficult two or three weeks not knowing what is going on. There are lots of people congratulating me. My dad is not with us but I know he will be watching down over me and will be very proud.

"It is an exciting time. All I am looking forward to is that kick-off and having a good go at the job. People say our season will fizzle out now but I will not allow it to. I want the players to play without fear. I have just said to them to go out and play with freedom because all the pressure is on Hull."

This week, Carver was confirmed as Newcastle's head coach until the end of the season. The Newcastle board have revealed they will seek a permanent successor in the summer. Carver is the former assistant of Alan Pardew, who left to take over at Crystal Palace at the start of January.

Life without Alan Pardew then. How's that going Newcastle fans?

The Toon are without a win since the departure of Pardew to Crystal Palace, with three defeats and a draw in all competitions. John Carver has been given the job till the end of the season and, just eight points away from the drop zone, they need to start winning.

Hull are faring even worse, with just two wins from their last 12 Premier League home games, but will climb out of the bottom three - albeit until the afternoon fixtures - with a win.

    Plenty riding on this one.

This morning we have been working in tandem with The Danny Baker Show on BBC Radio 5 live and asking the question: When was the exact moment you realised you probably should give up football?

Baz in Manchester: The realisation my football career was over was when playing in a team that my Dad managed. Started as captain, then first teamer, slowly made my way to sub, unused sub, and then finally the day came that I wasn't even in the squad. Drive home was quiet... thanks, Dad.

Paul O'B: Coming out of retirement at 30 to play the last game of the season for my club Powick, I came on as a sub and promptly snapped my cruciate ligament. All our subs were used so they had to finish the game with 10 men. We lost!
