Midway through the first half of this evening's La Liga game between Real Madrid and Sevilla and the hosts have the lead, James Rodriguez heading in from the middle of the area.

Real are well on top, although Iker Casillas did have to make a key save inside the second minute to keep out the visitors and they lost defender Sergio Ramos to an early injury.

David Wheater is winning everything in the air, and the Bolton defender's flick-on almost finds Eidur Gudjohnsen in the box, Good sweeping up by Simon Mignolet though. Liverpool pegged back at the moment.

"The counter-attack is on for both teams because they're committing so many men forward. Bolton have just settled down into the game after a frantic start. They will get opportunities tonight, particularly from set pieces."

Bolton are unbeaten at home under Neil Lennon and are looking sharp now. Zach Clough is starting to find space in the the hole, and Eidur Gudjohnsen is getting on the ball more.

"Liverpool haven't been convincing this season from set pieces. Bolton threw all their big men forward and it was a good opportunity for David Wheater."

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2015

Excellent run from Neil Danns and Bolton have a free-kick in a dangerous spot on the edge of the box. It's wide - can they find a good delivery?

It is a good ball in, and David Wheater wins the header at the front post and Simon Mignolet has to be sharp to make the stop. Bolton having a good spell.

"It was a similar chance [16 mins] to one Eidur Gudjohnsen had at Anfield. For someone of his quality, he should be hitting the target. I think every time Bolton get the ball in wide areas they've got to get it in the box and put pressure on the Liverpool back three."

"Bolton trying to pressurise Liverpool into mistakes but the Premier League side have carved out space and a couple of decent opportunities, with veteran keeper Andy Lonergan twice saving well from Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling. Plenty of encouragement for Neil Lennon's side from the home fans but not too much to trouble Liverpool's defence so far."

Steven Gerrard's new boots to mark his 700th game for the Reds. I'm assured he doesn't actually have a new pair for every single game - that would be a nightmare wouldn't it? They never fit too well fresh out of the box.

Jon Pace: A defender going up front to do a 'job' just strikes me as pub team!

Andy Marshall: Anyone else hope that Gerrard scores and gets us through? Would be a brilliant 700th game for him!

Matt Shannon: Looks like the Bolton defence are wanting to swap shirts with Sterling already.

Eidur Gudjohnsen is making me look silly. I said that if you gave him time and space he's still got it, but he has both and shanks a left-footed strike miles over the bar.

That is a very presentable chance for Bolton.

"It was good hands in the end from Andy Lonergan. It was a devastating counter-attack again from Liverpool, led by Lazar Markovic, Raheem Sterling just got in behind David Wheater and really unbalanced him."

Chance! Great counter from Liverpool frees Raheem Sterling to run at David Wheater, which ends in predictable circumstance. Sterling glides past the centre-back and get a shot off but Andy Lonergan keeps it out, gathering the loose change too from in front of a red shirt.

If Zach Clough can't last the pace, I've got no chance. Liverpool are growing with stature by the minute and Philippe Coutinho is the latest to have a dig from 20 yards, scuffing one wide. Neil Lennon is engaging fourth official Stuart Attwell in a lengthy chat.

"Zach Clough is looking impressive. He has started with high energy but as he is young, I don't know if he'll be able to keep it up."

The first sighting of Bolton starlet Zach Clough is a promising one, winning the ball from Joe Allen and then driving at the heart of the Liverpool side, only for Steven Gerrard to muscle him off it. Clough needs to bulk out but the stadium is already coming alive every time he gets the ball.

"Bolton have to be careful about Philippe Coutinho cutting in from the left, as if he's allowed to shoot, he can cause problems. They need to watch out for Liverpool hitting them on the break."

Raheem Sterling rolls his ankle but after a few moments of treatment he appears to be OK. Liverpool - and England - need him to stay fit all season.

"I thought Raheem Sterling started the season poorly. But there's been a change in the last month in the speed that Liverpool have played at and I think it's coincided with Sterling playing more centrally. It suits him a lot better and everything seems to come through him."

Apparently if the Premier League had started on Boxing Day Liverpool would be top. But it didn't, so they aren't.

But they are now beginning to play very nice football, Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling involved in teeing up Steven Gerrard, but his side-footer from 20 yards is tame.
