  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2015

Victor Moses goes into the book for a karate-style kick on Mike Williamson. The winger's defence is that the sun was in his eyes. Hopefully he saw that he got a yellow card and doesn't do anything else rash.

Excellent anticipation from Mame Diouf spares Stoke as Massadio Haidara plays a sliderule ball into the box only to see it cut out by the makeshift right winger.

John Carver shouts some instructions from the bench, while clutching a little notepad and pen. That's just to get everyone's chippy orders later. I'm having assistant manager Steve Stone as a pudding, chips and gravy type of man.

Controversy in Tow: I miss Bojan already! Gutted he's out for the season now! Unlike Lionel Messi he can cut it on a cold, wet Wednesday night in Stoke...

"A fantastic save from Asmir Begovic. For me all Remy Cabella has to do is get a glancing little touch on the ball and it is in, but Begovic denies him. Did Marc Wilson get caught ball-watching a little bit? He needs to be more side on to the ball and player there."

This could turn into a good game after all. Newcastle almost take the lead when Moussa Sissoko clips the ball into the box and Remy Cabella flicks it goalwards but Asmir Begovic makes a fine, instinctive save to keep the scores level.

Matt: To James via text (see 13:59). We Albion fans do not celebrate a 17th placed finish. Pepe Mel got sacked for it last season, but there are 10 teams in the Premier League for whom surviving is the main aim at the start of the season.

The bald-headed and bearded Stephen Ireland is trying to get Stoke going with some pass and move stuff in midfield. Stoke clearly see him as someone who can influence the game today, with assistant manager Mark Bowen spending a fair amount of time chatting with the Irishman on the pitch before kick-off. Stoke look quite bright and Jon Walters drags a shot wide after controlling the ball well.

"It's all a little bit scrappy at the moment. Neither team has been able to string more than about five or six passes together. The atmosphere is a little subdued as well and perhaps that is no surprise. Sometimes the players have to give the fans something to cheer about and they haven't really done that."

I'm still gutted that Bojan is out for the rest of the season. There are a handful of players who you look forward to watching each week, and he's certainly one of them. As you can gather from my waffling, little is happening on the pitch. Both sides just feeling the other out.

"All of Jonathan Walters' hard work is paying off for him now. When I was playing as a full-back he would be the ideal player to have ahead of you on the wing because he always tracks back. I am glad he's been playing in his preferred position up front now though. He is a handful, and he puts himself about."

Managerial juggernauts? I've not heard that one before, Simon.

Speaking of juggernauts, Jon Walters is already throwing his weight around for Stoke. He comes out second-best in an aeriel challenge with Fabricio Coloccini though. Another juggernaut.

Simon, York: Was Sean Dyche v Tony Pulis ever not ending in a draw? That was like the unstoppable force against the immovable object. Two managerial juggernauts going head to head in a smash mouth, gritty game of football. What a joy to watch.

Did you see that John Carver celebrated that win at Hull with a brew and a chip butty? Man of the people. I hope he got himself some mushy peas too. What's the strangest thing you've eaten/supped after a particularly satisfying victory?

We've been to Turf Moor and we'll be heading to Upton Park a little later. But now it's time to see what's occurring at St James' Park. We are under way in the north east.

Newcastle boss John Carver, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's the same team and the same bench, it was an easy decision after our win at Hull. I don't think anyone doubted what we were about and I thought Hull was a perfect away performance. But now we are at home.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes, speaking to Sky Sports: "Our away form has been really good. You look at this fixture in the calendar and you always know it is going to be a test."

    Newcastle United

Newcastle coach John Carver: "Remy Cabella has always been a lively character around the place and is a really pleasant guy.

"He picked up the English very quickly and he'll always come in our office for a chat in the morning. He's always been loud - sometimes too loud, irritatingly loud.

"You've got to see his silver trainers - he's a weird dresser! But that's fine, he's a good personality to have around."

Both teams are established in mid-table, but know a few good results could see them challenge for the top eight. For Newcastle, John Carver needs victories to put himself in the frame to become permanent manager.
