  1. Bruce wants offside changepublished at 11:23 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

Well, Mark Hughes is not totally convinced by Luis Figo's attempt to become Fifa president, but Hull City manager Steve Bruce does like Figo's idea of simplifying the offside rule.

"There's too many grey areas in the offside rule," says ex-Manchester United central defender Bruce.

"You see people standing in front of the goalkeeper, yet they might not be interfering with play. The referees are being put under too much pressure. Are the players interfering or not? It's a very good idea to take away that problem."

  2. 'Some of Figo's ideas were interesting, some were not'published at 11:19 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes said: "Luis Figo's ideas have certainly got people talking and I'm sure that's why he has said them. Some of his ideas were interesting, some were not.

"He has a lot of support from celebrities backing him and some high-profile footballers have aligned themselves with him. His standing as a footballer is without question."

  3. Divided opinionpublished at 11:17 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

Well, a number of football managers have been asked for their views on Figo's proposals. But not everyone was that excited. First up is Stoke City boss Mark Hughes's response.

  4. Figo to rule the football world?published at 11:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

You may well have seen Portugal legend Luis Figo release his election manifesto earlier this week at Wembley as he aims to replace Sepp Blatter and become president of world football's governing body Fifa.

Figo would consider a bigger World Cup and would look at increasing the number of teams from 32 to 40 or even 48.

The 42-year-old, who is one of three candidates challenging Blatter in the election on 29 May, also proposed sin-bins and reverting to the old offside rule interpretation.

  7. Hughes worried about Sherwood impactpublished at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

"It's a case of players wanting to impress. There's a little edge and an increase in work-rate and focus.

"Tim Sherwood comes across as a very positive guy and he will have been working on their positive thinking... but we've been doing OK."

  8. 'Christian was a beast'published at 10:58 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

But before Aston Villa and Tim Sherwood can think of following in the footsteps of former Barcelona boss and current Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola, Villa's first priority is to figure out how to put the ball in the back of the net.

Villa have only scored 12 times in 25 Premier League games, but Sherwood has faith in striker Christian Benteke, who has netted only three times this season after recovering from a ruptured Achilles he suffered last April.

"Christian's a really good lad - he speaks better English than me as well. I know he was a beast up there and can bully people," says Sherwood.

"Anything crossed into the box, he used to find it and eat it up - we need to get back to that. He's a centre forward and they have to be the focal point of your side. If they're in the game a lot you're not doing badly."

  18. 'Man City should not have missed Toure so much'published at 10:13 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

    Robbie Savage
    BBC football analyst

"Yaya Toure's return to Premier League action this weekend cannot come soon enough for Manchester City, but a club with their resources should not have missed one man so much in the first place.

"Before last week's much-needed win at Stoke, the defending champions went four league games without victory and went from being joint-top with Chelsea to seven points behind Jose Mourinho's men.

    Yaya ToureImage source, AFP

"That slump in form coincided with Toure being away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, leaving City without any drive in midfield in his absence."
