Stevie G doesn't miss those. He strides up, opens his body and sidefoots into the left-hand corner of Hugo Lloris's goal.

  3. PENALTY FOR LIVERPOOLpublished at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2015

A skilful, slaloming run in the box from Daniel Sturridge is ended by Danny Rose's outstretched leg. Penalty. All day long.

Tottenham are probing away in the final third, looking for the intricate passes which will open up Liverpool once again. And while Liverpool's defence is packed with bodies, it does look a little statuesque at times. Only Martin Skrtel seems alert to the clever passes.

Chris from Portland - his one-man team line has still got them going....

James, London: One-man team is never an accurate phrase, but without Kane Spurs would be fighting for 10th let alone 3rd - keep Chris' comment in context.

Ricky, London: I agree with Chris from portland. With all these 'great players' that spurs have they still can't get into 4th place....even blamed a dodgy lunch once upon a time!

From Jamie in London: Re: Chris in Portland. Funny, they said that about Bale and look at us now. Except now we have three world class players in Kane, Eriksen and Lloris.

Raheem Sterling looks colder than Olaf the snowman as he rubs his hands together in the stands. He's missing tonight with a foot injury.

"Tottenham responded really well to going a goal down and have played with confidence. The game is in the balance. Sturridge has had two or three chances and he has looked sharp, but not sharp in front of goal."

A patient start from both sides in the early stages of the second half. You just sense it will spring into life at any minute though.

  9. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2015

Liverpool were out a good 60 seconds before Spurs. But let's not worry about that. We're back under way.

Alex Rich: Kane undoubtedly a talent, but Joran Ibe! lets not forget him, power and pace with a seasoned finishers shot, one to watch.

JavelBleach: With Liverpool's chances, they should be 3-1 up. Again. A Top 4 team would be buying those. Sturridge needs a right foot.

There were 18 attempts on goal in that first half - 11 for Liverpool and 7 for Tottenham. Is it a change in mindset from Liverpool? Or did Everton just negate them at the weekend?

Chris from Portland not really making friends with his suggestion that Spurs are a one-man team.

Jason from Peterborough: What is Chris from Portland on about, fed up of the one man team lines. Spurs are more than a one man team let's wait for Erikson to score on the last 10 minutes and see what he thinks then.

From Gareth in Bexhill on Sea: Re: Chris from Portland. On the contrary Chris, Kane has had great support from the likes of Eriksen, Mason, Lamela, Bentaleb not to mention the solid displays from the likes of Dier. We're a better team across the pitch than we were with Bale.

Matt Read, Torquay: Spurs massively improved over the season. Kane is quite exceptional. Chris from Portland says one man team. What about Liverpool and Saurez ? Or even Liverpool and sturridge. Teams are built around great players!

Andy, London: I guess Portland Chris 42 mins is forgetting about Mason, Bentaleb, Eriksen, Lloris et al.

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Anfield

"Entertaining half at Anfield. Harry Kane, inevitably, on the mark for Spurs and Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge not far off as his backheel hit the post. Perfectly balanced between two sides intent on playing passing, attacking football."

"It's been really fast and free flowing from both sides. Liverpool should be in front, they just hit the post 20 seconds before half-time, and they have edged the chances. But Spurs are also playing very, very well."

Alan Green's right, these two have really taken the game to each other. And the most encouraging thing about it all? The shining stars on the pitch are all English - Harry Kane, Jordon Ibe and Daniel Sturridge.

What an effort. Daniel Sturridge, the Premier League has missed you. So have Liverpool!

Jordon Ibe takes on Danny Rose down the right and his ball into the box bobbles about before Daniel Sturridge tries an outrageous backheel which hits the post with Hugo Lloris beaten.
