  1. Sturridge or Kane? Kane or Sturridge?published at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2015

So, Daniel Sturridge starts for Liverpool tonight. It's the clash of England's two best young strikers, but who would Brendan Rodgers prefer to have? His own man, or Harry Kane.

Naturally, he went for Sturridge:, external "For me there's not anyone better than Daniel Sturridge. He's got everything in his game if he's playing consistently.

"His goalscoring record, his pace, his power, he's got everything and as an English striker there's no-one better than him."

Agree or disagree? You know what to do...

  2. Manager viewpublished at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2015

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BT Sport: "I think that we have improved a lot since the beginning of the season, when you implement new ideas and a new philosophy it's not easy. But you see now how we worked from the start of season. I'm happy for the latest results but we have to look forward.

"We need to try always hard on the training ground and now maybe the work pays off at the present. But we have to be careful to keep working and looking forward as we have a lot of tough games and Liverpool is a very, very tough game.

"Harry Kane is still young but a very great person. We must keep going and we need to be focused and ready to compete tonight."

"With Liverpool unbeaten in eight league games and Spurs suffering just one defeat in 12, this should be a fierce contest under the lights at Anfield.

"While Liverpool will have to put the frustration of a goalless draw against Merseyside rivals Everton behind them, Tottenham will hope to carry the momentum of a memorable comeback win in the North London derby .

"I have been particularly impressed with Tottenham, who have developed a resilience and sense of character that has seen them pick up 15 points from losing positions this season.

"And in Harry Kane they undoubtedly have the Premier League's man of the moment."

It's not just Tottenham who are harvesting English talent, because Liverpool have some bright young things of their own. We all know plenty about Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge, but there's a new flying forward in town... and he goes by the name of Jordon Ibe.

The 19-year-old made only his second league start for the Reds in Saturday's drawn Merseyside derby and drew some high praise from his manager, Brendan Rodgers.

"I've just been waiting to put Jordon in," said Rodgers. "I had no qualms about putting him in, it was a brilliant performance.

"He was unfortunate not to score but he's got a wonderful temperament and technique and tactically he was very, very good coming into that system, knowing when to go forward and when to tuck in."

Watching the two teams get off the team bus, it was particularly striking to see Daniel Sturridge smiling, ringing his hands together and generally looking like a man who couldn't wait to play football. It's been a long time.

"Raheem Sterling's injury opens the door for Daniel Sturridge to make his first Liverpool start since their 3-0 win against tonight's opponents Spurs at White Hart Lane on 31 August. So a chance to make comparisons with man of the moment Harry Kane, who scored his 21st and 22nd goals of the season in Spurs' north London derby win against Arsenal on Saturday.

"The pair could both be rivals for an England place when manager Roy Hodgson names his squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and the friendly in Italy at the end of next month.

"Cold and misty night here on Merseyside for a game that has assumed great significance in the battle for a place in the Premier League's top four and next season's Champions League."

The secret really is out with Harry Kane, and word is spreading to the Continent. Or Madrid, to be precise, where those high-rollers at Real are keeping tabs on England's bright new hope.

Apparently, the European giants have scouted him three times already this season. With 22 goals in 34 games this season, it's not hard to see why.

  11. 'Kane's performances world class'published at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2015

    John Hartson
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Harry Kane is having a remarkable time of it. Anyone who saw him play last season, they couldn't quite see the improvement to the level he is playing at now.

"He is playing like a world-class centre forward. He is so clever, he can play off the front man in the number 10 role - collecting the ball from the midfield - and he can play as a number nine. We saw him bully Gary Cahill and John Terry and the goals that he scores are brilliant. The header he scored against Arsenal was textbook, Alan Shearer would have been proud of it.

"Kane and Daniel Sturridge can play together for England. With Wayne Rooney just off them that is some front three."

Let's be honest... unless you're a Tottenham fan, we've been waiting for this bubble to burst. Surely this Englishman from the Spurs academy can't keep banging them in for fun? Surely he can't keep ripping apart the best defences in the country?

It seems he can. Strong, powerful, clinical - is there anything Harry Kane can't do? I bet he's one of those annoying lads who's good at everything - cricket, golf, tiddlywinks...

I'll be honest. I made this graphic this afternoon, then news broke that Raheem Sterling wasn't going to play. But I'm not going to let that get in the way of publishing this pretty graphic...

    Harry Kane.

It's all you've heard about this weekend. Harry Kane this, Harry Kane that, Harry Kane is one of Spurs' own, Harry Kane was actually an Arsenal fan, Harry Kane will end up at Leyton Orient in a few years' time, Harry Kane is England's best player, Harry Kane to Real Madrid, Harry Kane for PM.

How good the Spurs striker is, will be or could be is a fine talking point. But it appears - thanks to this info, external - that is ahead of the curve for his tender age of 21.

Kane's 12 goals in 20 Premier League games give him a favourable scoring rate when compared to other young guns down the years, ahead of Michael Owen, Michael Bridges and Robbie Fowler etc.

But let's see how he fares over a longer run of games eh? Starting tonight...

Or would we? Ladies and gentlemen, I put forward to you the name of one man... Harry Kane.

When Olly Murs tweeted on Saturday that Kane is a mixture of Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham, I sniggered. But, do you know what, I think the pop star has a point.

We've got a star on our hands.

What ingredients would you put into the mixture if you had to make the perfect English striker?

Perhaps the physicality and goalscoring knack of Alan Shearer? Then you'd throw in Teddy Sheringham's vision, control and range of passing? You'd also want him to be as good in the air as Andy Carroll and as slick on the floor as Peter Beardsley. Pace like Michael Owen would help too.

What a player he'd be. Surely we'd never produce a player like that?
