    Match of the Day

This is where our ways part.

But the Match of the Day crew have worked double quick to cut and shut the best bits of tonight's and Tuesday's action into an hour and half programme.

West Ham v Chelsea are up first with Southampton v Palace in the wooden spoon slot.

Tune in to tonight at 22:45 GMT on BBC One, 23:10 on BBC One Wales, 23:40 GMT on BBC One & 23:45 GMT BBC One NI. Or online right now!

    Bye for now.

  2. Post update

Only one Premier League match this weekend - with Tottenham catching up their game in hand by travelling to QPR as most of the rest focus on FA Cup matters.

But the top flight is back with a bang on the weekend starting Saturday 14 March.

Among the games to look forward to are Manchester United v Tottenham, Chelsea v Southampton and Arsenal v West Ham.

Get yer' full top-flight fixture list over here.

  3. Post update

    Branislav Ivanovic

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Nemanja Matic, who was suspended for the match, injured his ankle celebrating their Capital One Cup final win over Tottenham on Sunday.

Matic followed captain John Terry's lead in donning full kit for the larking about and champagne spraying.

"He put his shinpad on, but not the ankle tape," said Mourinho, adding he will be alright for the Champions League last 16 second leg against Paris St-Germain next week.

  4. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Everton

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas

    5 live Sport

"Who is playing well in that Everton side? The manager is playing the same system from last season, when they did play well. There are issues all over the pitch, which accumulate and result in some bad, bad performances. You can put this all at the door of Roberto Martinez but the players need to take some responsibility too."

Rian Hoskins: We forget how far Stoke have come under Hughes. They are slow starters but play flowing football and are still tough to beat.

Dominic Halton: I am convinced Liverpool will beat Man United and claim fourth spot, just based on the way Liverpool are playing.

Girish Santhosh: Credit to Rodgers for this brilliant turnaround. Henderson looks at home in his new role as captain.

    QPR 1-2 Arsenal

    BBC Radio 5 live

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on 5 live Football Social: "We were not only patient but resilient. The race for Champions League places is tough and tight, and everyone won tonight.

"We have 10 games to go, six at home and four away. We have to focus on our performances and not focus on anyone else."

  7. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

Former West Brom, Sunderland and Everton winger Kevin Kilbane

    5 live Sport

"Off the back of the League Cup final, look at Chelsea's performance. West Ham played very well and so that was a huge win for Chelsea."

  8. Player reaction

    Tottenham 3-2 Swansea

    Hugo Lloris

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on Bafetimbi Gomis - a former team-mate at Lyon: - "It's not the first time but it's always a big moment of worry for all the stadium all the players. Everyone was scared but the most thing is Bafe is much better now and I hope he will recover well and be involved for the next game."

  9. 'We can enjoy this stage of the season'

    Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

    BBC Radio 5 live

    Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers on 5 live Football Social: "It was a good performance tonight. These can be difficult games because you're expected to win. Burnley are a tough team to beat, but tonight we were very, very good in our defensive organisation and we looked very exciting going forward.

"Daniel Sturridge started tonight and he contributed, he got his goal.

"It's all about the levels of our performances - we are focused, we are playing the game at our level and we're entering a stage of the season which we can enjoy. We just have to maintain this momentum."

  10. "I am genuinely sick"

    QPR 1-2 Arsenal

    Chris Ramsey

Queens Park Rangers manager Chris Ramsey, speaking to BBC Sport: "We played very well but you cannot keep being unlucky and sorry that you lost the game. Detail has cost us and I am genuinely sick for the players, I thought they gave everything but at this level it is the detail that matters. We can't keep relying on Charlie Austin.

"It is fantastic that he had a few shots, and he worked tirelessly for the team but we need to start creating opportunities for a few other people. Overall the performance was good and I am sick we could not at least get something out of the game."

  11. Post update

    Jordan Henderson

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers on Jordan Henderson: "It was great - the strike for his goal and the feed into Daniel Sturridge for the second. He is up there with the top assist makers in the league, he has very good technique. He is developing well as a player, he still has work to go but he knows that. It's great to see."

Henderson has seven assists in the Premier League this season, matching his best total from any previous top-flight campaign.

  12. Manager reaction

    Stoke 2-0 Everton

    Mark Hughes

Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "We were very good. We had the setback of losing Philipp Wollscheid so we had to make a change early on a regroup.

"But it was typical performance of not allowing anything to sway us from what we want to achieve this season.

"It's a fantastic header from Victor Moses and then we are in a position to soak up pressure and hit on the break.

"It was arguably Moses's best performance for Stoke City.

"It's a fantastic period at the moment, 42 points and we are eighth. We're very happy but we still have work to do.

"People were talking about Europe at the press conference but we have never talked about Europe this year, it was all about achieving a points total that was greater than last year.

"I'm not sure Europe is achievable but we will have a go."

  13. Manager reaction

    QPR 1-2 Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, speaking to BBC Sport: "We had the chances to score three or four. QPR gave everything and we needed to be patient and resilient because in the first 25 minutes they stopped us from playing.

"But in the second half it was all us. At 2-1 you become edgy, we could not score the third goal and you never know, with Charlie Austin up front who can score a goal from anywhere. He must have one of the strongest strikes in the league. But overall we controlled the game well."

  14. Manager reaction

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal on alleged spitting from Jonny Evans at Papiss Cisse: "I didn't see it.

"I don't think Jonny Evans is a spitter. Maybe spitting on the floor but we are on the bench and you cannot see from there."

  15. Player reaction

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

    Jonas Gutierrez

Newcastle winger Jonas Gutierrez on his return to playing after battling testicular cancer: "I will remember for the rest of my life the reception. I'm really happy with the reception and the support the fans gave me and the support through the illness.

"The support I have had from clubs all around the world, they don't matter about the shirt, it has helped me keep fighting. For people having the trouble I have been through, you have to be positive. If you believe in the heart you can beat the problems, you can."

  16. 'Spitting is one of the worst things in football'

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

    Papiss Cisse

Newcastle United manager John Carver speaking to BBC match of the Day: "I'm devastated, I'm annoyed. I needed five to 10 minutes to calm down. Our guys gave every inch. But when you play Man Utd you have to concentrate for every minute and we didn't.

"I think we had the best chances and you have to put one of those away. You just wonder if they will hit you on the sucker punch and they did.

"I'm devastated for our guys. The goal at the end the way it came, young Abeid has learned a harsh lesson, he is learning the game.

On Newcastle's first-half penalty shout: "It was a penalty. Mr Taylor has a decision to make. At the time I thought it was and usually your gut instinct is right."

On alleged spitting between Papiss Cisse and Jonny Evans: "I haven't seen it."

If it has happened is that something you will act on? "You can't do it can you, it's one of the worst things in football. I can't comment on it, I just know there was a fracas on the halfway line."

  17. Manager reaction

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    Chelsea

    Jose Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "The way they play, nobody is better than them. They are the best at the way they play. It is not just to play football, the pressure, the tension and the emotion, my players were fantastic. We couldn't kill the game and these three points are massive for us.

"I told the referee is it very difficult to be a ref here, because of the style of their game. Lots of long balls. West Ham had lots of balls in the box, very difficult, very intense and really difficult for the referee.

"They complain for everything, the crowd is behind them and it is really, really difficult.

"Eden Hazard is fantastic. He is punished by opponents in a very hard way. Today, not in a violent way, just an aggressive football way because they tried to stop him but the kid is playing, scoring and defending. My team were brothers on the pitch and that is important if you are to win the most difficult league in the world.

"I want to sleep tomorrow until midday. Today easily you lose two points."

  18. Player reaction

    Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

    Jordan Henderson

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson: "We knew that we needed to back up beating a side like Manchester City, we knew Burnley would make it difficult so it was a big three points.

"It's another good performance, but we need to keep building on it. I want to keep doing what I've been doing [as captain]. When Steven Gerrard is not there, I try to lead by example, but hopefully we can get him back because he's a massive player for us."

  19. TONIGHT'S RUNNING ORDER

    Match of the Day

    Match of the Day

West Ham v Chelsea up first, Southampton v Palace in the wooden spoon slot.

Tune in to tonight's Match of the Day, 22:45-00:15, BBC One, 23:10-00:40 BBC One Wales, 23:40-01:10 GMT BBC One Scotland & 23:45-01:15 GMT BBC One NI

  20. Manager reaction

    Tottenham 3-2 Swansea

    Tottenham

    Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham manager: Mauricio Pochettino: "I am happy but the feeling is a bit strange because in the last minutes they had chances.

"It was a great save in the last minute. He (Hugo Lloris) is one of the best in the world and we are lucky we have him with us.

"The three points and victory were very important - to feel like a winner again after the game. It was difficult after the final to lift the players and supporters but we showed big character today and played well. It was a great performance."

  21. Manager Reaction

    Stoke 2-0 Everton

    Roberto Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "It's disappointing as it has been a really tough two weeks. We showed that lack of cutting edge. Overall it was a pretty even game and I'm disappointed how we conceded the first goal as it is free header in the 18-yard box.

"I did feel that as a team we showed we had played a number of matches in a short period of time.

"The Europa League campaign is a bit obvious at the moment as it is a lot of games to play in a short period but as a club that is what we want, to play in Europe.

"The concern is a huge moment in the season, we have 10 games and we will treat them as finals. We are in this situation for many reasons but we are looking forward and up to get as high up in the table as we can.

"The desire and wanting for the result was there but the legs couldn't get there. We are ready to face the challenge straight on. We haven't got the results that our performances deserve.

"Everyone at the club, it's the moment to get together and make sure we finish the season strongly. We need bit of luck and momentum but it's not been that type of season."

  22. Manager reaction

    Tottenham 3-2 Swansea

    Garry Monk

Swansea manager Garry Monk: "Bafetimbi Gomis is fine. He went to hospital as a precaution but he is fine. That's the main thing.

"He just needed a minute but he was talking when he came off the pitch.

"We understand his history. He has had all the tests but it's just part of life for him."

  23. Post update

    Stoke 2-0 Everton

Former West Brom, Sunderland and Everton winger Kevin Kilbane

    5 live Sport

"Everton will be safe, but is that good enough for Evertonians? The big distraction has been Europe, getting results, but that has the knock-on effect in the league. Recent league performances have been really poor, and Romelu Lukaku is out of form."

  24. Manager reaction

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

    Louis van gaal

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: "I think we have dominated for 90 minutes, maybe our best match of the season, especially in an away match we deserved the victory.

"We didn't reward ourselves in the first half. It was a narrow escape because our rivals have won also so it's a rat race.

"We have created a lot of chances and could have scored much earlier. They also made two big chances and I think David de Gea rescued us at that time.

"It was a crazy run from Wayne Rooney, a lost ball, that shows the fighting spirit in this team. We want to win. All my changes were to win, not to hold the result."

  25. Manager's reaction

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    West Ham

    West Ham manager Sam Allardyce

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: "I believe the performance was magnificent. Their goalkeeper's performance made some fantastic saves. I think the goal is offside by a hair's breadth.

"These decisions need to go for you not against you. In saying all that we shouldn't have lost it in the chances we missed.

"We started the second half brilliantly, the keeper made some great saves, and it is a shame these are happening on a regular occurrence with no wins. We can only hope it turns in our favour quickly.

"The LMA is a fantastic professional body, with people who don't get listened to. We have fantastic ideas on how to improve the game but it is not going to happen. The authorities won't take us under their wing to help them change the game. We can keep pressing for more of an influence and can't give up."

Peter Collins: If Liverpool could start a season as well as they seem to start a year, they'd be world beaters!

Javel Bleach: All Liverpool won tonight was a +1 goal difference advantage on Arsenal, Man Utd and Spurs, against the team in 19th position. There's a long way to go.

Simon Parry: Despite lucky late winners and inevitable celebrations, best part of the night is Jonas Guiterrez returning to football.

  29. Manager reaction

    Man City 2-0 Leicester

    Nigel Pearson

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson to BBC Sport on his side being denied at least one penalty: "They are always big calls. But three in one night is a bit surprising, isn't it? I don't need to talk about those decisions because the fact you are interested in them means you have seen them and know the rules. I know what I think and I'm keeping it to myself.

"We played well, it was a disciplined performance. We have to make sure we take the positives from tonight's game - and there were plenty of those. I thought we could have played better at times but we were in the game all night."

  30. Manager reaction

    QPR 1-2 Arsenal

    Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "We needed to be strong and get the ball down more, to get back to our game, and we did that better in the second half, I felt it was all us.

"We scored two but we could have scored more, we played very well in the second half, and our collective game as a group was good, the chances we created were good and we played with a lot of desire and belief, overall it was a very positive game."

  31. Player reaction

    Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson: "It is another massive three points from us and keeps the momentum going. I thought that Daniel Sturridge's movement and holding up of the the ball was excellent. We are getting back to what we were doing well last season with high-tempo pressing high up and pitch and then playing in between the lines."

Daniel Sturridge: "I feel good, I have felt good since I came back and am ready to play. I don't want to be eased back in, but that is was the manager wants."

  32. Post update

    Man City 2-0 Leicester

Steve Bruce said last night that grown men were behaving like children, and Leicester manager Nigel Pearson is doing his best teenager impression now.

When asked to elaborate on his monosyllabic answers about a penalty appeal he just shrugs and says: "What's the point? What's the point."

  33. Post update

    Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

    Rodgers

Won seven, drawn two, and lost none.

Liverpool, version 2015, is a distinct upgrade on the previous edition.

    Stoke 2-0 Everton

Mark, an infuriated Everton fan: After seeing that dross I am genuinely worried. Poor tactics, poor substitutions. Martinez out.

Ed from Exeter: Please please please sack Martinez. He's had long enough now.

    Livid.

Let's just say he thinks they should have had a penalty or two. Full quotes to come.

  36. Manager reaction

    Man City 2-0 Leicester

Manchester City manage Manuel Pellegrini: "It's been a difficult week but from the beginning we tried to dominate. It was very important to score our first goal when we did but we had more chances in second half and we improved.

"At 1-0 you are one ball away from drawing the game. It's very important to play well but the most important thing is to win."

    Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

  38. Post update

    Man City 2-0 Leicester

Former Man City and England full-back Danny Mills

at Etihad Stadium for 5 live Sport

"Leicester had two really good penalty appeals. Jeffrey Sclupp was first pushed over by Wilfried Bony, then a player was fouled on the line of the City area. City didn't have it all their own way, they didn't play well, they were lethargic and lacklustre but they got the result and they're still in the title hunt."

  39. SUBSTITUTION

    Liverpool 2-0 Burnley

Rickie Lambert comes on to replace the enterprising Raheem Sterling for a couple of minutes worth of cameo.

Danny Ings has picked up a dead leg and will be replaced by Lukas Jutkiewicz for Burnley.

Three minutes of injury time to go.

  40. Player reaction

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

    Ashley Young

Manchester United match-winner Ashley Young talking to BT Sport: "David De Gea was magnificent again tonight. It was a hard fought win. We knew we needed three points and got our just rewards.

"We heard of results, others winning around us so it was vitally important to get a win here. It was great work by Wazza (Wayne Rooney), the ball fell to my feet and I put it away.

"People are always going to question the biggest club in the world. We concentrate on ourselves, listen to the manager and coaching staff and don't listen to anyone else."

David Sharpe could be forgiven for thinking this football chairmanship lark is easy. The 23-year-old is the replacement at Wigan for his grandfather, Dave Whelan, who stepped down on Tuesday - and starts with a 1-0 win at Norwich.

Kim Bo-Kyung's first-half goal ends the Canaries' six-match winning streak, and gives Wigan hope that they could yet avoid relegation - although they are still six points adrift of safety.

Bottom club Blackpool, who are surely doomed, lose 1-0 at Birmingham, while Lancashire neighbours Blackburn warm up for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final at Liverpool with a 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday, courtesy of first-half goals from Jordan Rhodes and Adam Henley.

Ipswich miss the chance to move back into the play-off places, losing 2-1 at Leeds, for whom Billy Sharp volleys a winner.

  44. Post update

Is there time? Probably not. Let's see.

  63. Post update

  66. Post update

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

  67. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    Costa

Chelsea close on two counts, first Diego Costa dribbling a shot just wide before Branislav Ivanovic blasts a shot straight into the arm of James Collins inside the box.

    Ding-donging finish at Upton Park.

  68. GOAL

Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd - Ashley Young (89 mins)

    Young

It's a horrible goal to concede. No danger as Newcastle try and shepherd the ball out, they turn it back inside to goalkeeper Tim Krul who totally loses his cool under pressure. He can only hack the ball straight to the feet of Ashley Young, and he does the rest. Late goals for both Manchester clubs...

  69. GOAL

Man City 2-0 Leicester - James Milner (88 mins)

    James Milner

  75. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

    Hull City defender Curtis Davies

at St James' Park for 5 live Sport

"Newcastle are dropping deeper and deeper, so the spaces Fellaini was able to knock the ball down into having won a header were becoming fewer and fewer. So they have brought Mata on to exploit space with pace."

  76. GOAL

Burnley have brought on Ross Wallace and Sam Vokes in search of some route back.

  78. GOAL

QPR 1-2 Arsenal - Charlie Austin (82 mins)

    Charlie Austin

He's deserved that. A terrific display in front of Roy Hodgson is capped by a great hit from Charlie Austin. He brings the ball down 20 yards out, turns and just lashes it into the net. No faffing about. Size 10 through the ball. Bang!

  79. Post update

    Stoke 1-0 Everton

    Peter Crouch

Everton continue to huff and puff but they are yet to really hurt Stoke. Kevin Mirallas, their final change, is on.

  80. Post update

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

"Sharp reminder for Manchester City as that shot from Riyad Mahrez rolled against the post. Leicester City may be second best but they are preying on City's nerves, and the nerves of their supporters, every time they come forward. City looking anxious at the back."

  81. Fifteen minutes to go

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

Fifteen minutes go at Upton Park with Cheikhou Kouyate still getting treatment on the pitch.

  82. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Into the last 10 minutes at St James' Park. Manchester United have had almost 70% of the ball, they've had 10 efforts on goal. But they haven't scored.

Here comes Juan Mata, on for Marouane Fellaini. Beauty replaces the beast?

  83. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

Ouch! You could feel that one from up here.

Chasing a return ball from Diafra Sakho, Cheikhou Kouyate runs straight into John Terry, bashing heads together.

Terry is up and bouncing. Kouyate is going to need a little longer and bit of magic sponge.

  84. Post update

    Football League latest

It's all happening at Elland Road now. Alex Mowatt's terrific free-kick put Leeds in front at home to play-off chasers Ipswich, only for Freddie Sears to squeeze an equaliser under keeper Marco Silvestre three minutes later. But Billy Sharp has just restored Leeds' advantage, and it's 2-1.

Blackburn, without an away league win since 25 October, lead 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday. Chris Maguire has pulled a goal back for the home side after Lewis McGugan's ball in causes all sorts of problems in the visitors' box.

Fifth-placed Norwich are having plenty of possession at home to second-from-bottom Wigan, but are not making it count. Malky Mackay's side are still 1-0 in front through Kim Bo-Kyung's 12th-minute goal. Birmingham lead bottom club Blackpool 1-0.

  85. SUBSTITUTION

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

    David Silva

Manchester City desperately need a second goal and they turn to Frank Lampard. He replaces David Silva.

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas

    5 live Sport

"Manchester United are fighting to get into the top four, but although they are churning out results their form means they'll deliver poor performances. Whereas Liverpool are flying. Tough times at the minute for United fans."

  87. HITS THE WOODWORK

    QPR 0-2 Arsenal

Bad luck for Arsenal as Tomas Rosicky has a shot blocked and Mesut Ozil steers the follow-up against the far post. The Gunners have been very impressive since half-time.

  88. Post update

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

    Mark Schwarzer

Manchester City respond to that Leicester chance as Mark Schwarzer twice pulls off saves from long-range before Yaya Toure fires over. Mark Schwarzer has had a blinder!

  89. CLOSE!

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    Cahill

That is as close as West Ham have come to a leveller.

Enner Valencia's shot takes an awkward bounce right in front of Thibaut Courtois, the Belgian spills and Gary Cahill bails him out of trouble with a tremendous sliding challenge, beating Diafra Sakho to the loose ball.

  90. HITS THE WOODWORK

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

...and almost the leveller for Leicester! An element of hit-and-hope about Riyad Mahrez's speculator from 20 yards, it takes a touch off a defender and has Joe Hart beaten all ends up. Hart turns and watches - and sees the ball hit the base of the post.

  91. GREAT SAVE!

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Tim Krul again! Top save to keep out Wayne Rooney's steepling header at the back post. Almost the breakthrough...

  92. Post update

    Tottenham 3-1 Swansea

Tottenham are bossing this now. Kyle Walker comes scampering forward, spots a hole and drives into the box.

All left foot, he attempts an outside-of-the-foot finish from 15 yards. It catches a hefty deflection off Federico Fernandez and dribbles just wide with Lukasz Fabianski wrong-footed.

  93. Post update

Former Man City and England full-back Danny Mills

at Etihad Stadium for 5 live Sport

"I remember watching Wilfried Bony play for Swansea against Leicester, when he scored a fantastic goal, a brilliant strike. It hasn't happened for him tonight, and City are nervous. They have brought on a midfielder for a striker."

  94. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Liverpool are level on points with Manchester United as we stand, and Louis van Gaal's side would love w inner in the last 20 minutes. Do they look like providing one? Not particularly.

  95. SUBSTITUTION

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

Are Manchester City shutting up shop against Leicester? Wilfried Bony is replaced by James Milner after a frustrating full debut. Some nice touches, but some errant finishing.

  96. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    Zouma

If there is one thing that Jose Mourinho's sides can do is draw the sting from opponents chasing an equaliser.

Chelsea are doing exactly that as West Ham rally, but find the ball hard to get hold of.

  97. Post update

    QPR 0-2 Arsenal

Former West Brom, Sunderland and Everton winger Kevin Kilbane

    5 live Sport

"Brilliant goal. Sanchez wrong-footed Rob Green. The ball went through a couple of defenders and the keeper couldn't react."

  98. Post update

    Tottenham 3-1 Swansea

Tottenham are picking holes in the Swansea defence as the visitors try and press forward.

Danny Rose is causing problems for the Welsh side, bombing on from left-back.

  99. GOAL

QPR 0-2 Arsenal - Alexis Sanchez (69 mins)

    Sanchez

You shouldn't be able to score from there! He's been brilliant, Alexis Sanchez, in the second half and he gets his reward with a second goal which has been a long time in coming. The Chile forward beats two men on the left of the area to weave inside the 18-yard box, it looks like he should pull the ball back but he instead squeezes in a shot which wrongfoots Rob Green at his near post and finds the net.

  100. Post update

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

Former Man City and England full-back Danny Mills

at Etihad Stadium for 5 live Sport

    Fernando

"Leicester have created chances, and they are causing Manchester City one or two problems on the counter-attack."

  101. Post update

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

Manchester City are still a long way short of top gear, and they are almost punished as Dave Nugent stabs a great chance wide. He should score, but his blushes are saved by an offside flag.

This has not been the performance of champions from the hosts though. Though as I say that, Mark Schwarzer is at it again to keep out Yaya Toure's curler.

  102. GREAT SAVE!

    QPR 0-1 Arsenal

Much better from Arsenal and they scent a killer second goal. Alexis Sanchez is again at the heart of it, beating Darnell Furlong and testing Rob Green from range.

  103. YELLOW CARD

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Jonas Gutierrez is booked with his first touch! For bringing down Adnan Januzaj. Referee Anthony Taylor is booed from the stands...

  104. Post update

    Tottenham 3-1 Swansea

    BBC London 94.9

Former QPR striker Bradley Allen: "That is quite brilliant from Andros Townsend. He scampered down the left, but he had an awful lot to do. Swansea were swarming back but Townsend checked back and curled in a wonderful finish. Great from the England winger. A great noise inside White Hart Lane."

  105. GOAL

Liverpool 2-0 Burnley - Daniel Sturridge (51 mins)

    Sturridge

That could be game, set and match.

Daniel Sturridge, who has been lively in his first start for a while, beats Tom Heaton with a sharp downward header after being picked out by Jordan Henderson's deep cross.

A long, long way back for the Clarets. Mind you Leicester recovered from two down at Anfield earlier this season to claim a draw.

  106. GOAL

QPR 0-1 Arsenal - Olivier Giroud (64 mins)

    Olivier Giroud

Scrappy, but they all count. Alexis Sanchez starts an attack down the left, finding the overlap of Kieran Gibbs. His ball in is half-blocked and Olivier Giroud, lying on the floor, reacts sharply to stretch and fire the loose change home.

  107. SUBSTITUTION

Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd - Jonas on

A great moment! Jonas Gutierrez, who has had a lengthy spell out after being diagnosed with cancer, is back for Newcastle. The Argentine replaces Ryan Taylor to a huge ovation. He is given the captain's armband too. A nice touch.

  108. GOAL

Tottenham 3-1 Swansea - Andros Townsend (60 mins)

    Townsend

    Well played referee Michael Oliver!

The official allows play to continue after Nabil Bentaleb was floored by a heavy challenge and Andros Townsend takes full advantage haring forward, cutting inside the last man and curling home.

    Top reffing.

  109. Post update

    Liverpool 1-0 Burnley

Liverpool have started off where they left off in the first half. Tom Heaton has to be alert to get to a Philippe Coutinho cross-cum-shot with Daniel Sturridge lurking with intent.

  110. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    BBC London 94.9

Former Leyton Orient manager Martin Ling: "A great save by Adrian with his feet. West Ham were calling for the offside again, and they're really under the cosh with Chelsea the aggressors. The tempo of Chelsea is wonderful. Are these players tired from that Sunday cup final? It doesn't show."

  111. GREAT SAVE!

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    What a stop!

Adrian somehow gets a foot to Ramires' downward header to keep West Ham in the game. The chance was created by a lovely cross from Eden Hazard after the Belgian's dummy had left half the Hammers defenders on the seat of their pants.

  112. SUBSTITUTION

    Stoke 1-0 Everton

Everton have unleashed Arouna Kone and his first moment of danger sees a shot well saved by Asmir Begovic. Can Everton find a way back? Or will their slide continue?

  113. Post update

    Football League latest

A lively start to the second half at Elland Road, but still no goals. Ipswich left-back Tyrone Mings is denied twice in quick succession, first by a brilliant save from Leeds keeper Marco Silvestri and then by defender Scott Wootton's block. A point in West Yorkshire for Mick McCarthy's side will take them back into the play-off places.

No change elsewhere in the Championship; fifth-placed Norwich's six-match winning run is under threat as they trail 1-0 at home to struggling Wigan, Birmingham lead bottom club Blackpool by the same score and Blackburn are 2-0 up at Sheffield Wednesday in the mid-table battle.

  114. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas

    5 live Sport

"Angel Di Maria is obviously struggling at the moment. He reminds me of Mesut Ozil at Arsenal, starting like a house on fire and then going downhill. He needs to work on his body strength. That's just what Ozil has done."

  115. CLOSE!

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

You don't hit them better than that! Matthew Phillips with a stunning hit on the bounce, the technique of a master, cracking drive - just a foot wide. David Ospina would never have saved it. End-to-end now.

  116. KICK-OFF

    Liverpool 1-0 Burnley

Back up and running on Merseyside

  117. HITS THE WOODWORK

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    Could be... Could be... Nope.

Ramires hustles, feints and finally decides to pull the trigger in the box after a couple of opening presented themselves.

His side-foot effort beats Adrian first time, but rebounds off the inside of the post and back into the goalkeeper's arms.

  118. Post update

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

Are we going to get a goal at Loftus Road? Alexis Sanchez jets in from the left, opens up his body Thierry Henry style and pokes one wide. Steve Bould offers a prayer.

  119. Post update

    Tottenham 2-1 Swansea

    BBC London 94.9

Former QPR striker Bradley Allen: "It's a tremendous finish. Ryan Mason threatened to do that on a couple of occasions in the first half, running on beyond the strikers. This time, the ball broke into his path and he directed the ball into the top corner. Wonderful finish, having shifted the ball out from under his feet. Excellent composure. Spurs have that all-important second goal, and this game is now going to be a cracker."

  120. SUBSTITUTION - Di Maria off

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Angel Di Maria lobs one wide on the run. Manchester United continue to look frustrated - as Di Maria is replaced. On comes Adnan Januzaj in his place.

  121. GREAT SAVE!

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

Brilliant again from Mark Schwarzer. Valuable veteran. This time he goes full-stretch to turn away a Sergio Aguero header.

  122. GOAL

Tottenham 2-1 Swansea - Ryan Mason (51 mins)

    Ryan Mason

Ryan Mason has to be restrained by stewards as he heads towards the Tottenham faithful to celebrate, punching the air and hollering his head off.

That is his first Premier League goal and it was a decent strike to open your top-flight account, hammering home a rising shot after Christian Eriksen's twisting run drew in the Swansea defence.

  123. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

West Ham are showing signs of getting out from under the Chelsea cosh. Diafra Sakho ripples the wrong side of the side netting with a meaty hit from 15 yards. Gary Cahill did well to cut down his angle.

  124. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

"Tim Krul made himself as big as possible. It was a great save, fantastic stuff."

  125. GREAT SAVE!

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Fantastic double save from Tim Krul! He's kept Newcastle in the game. Marouane Fellaini beats the offside trap to run onto a flick over the top, he takes it on his chest and fires in a shot. Krul parries it out but only to Ashley Young. Young takes too long in getting a shot away but when he does he leathers it in, and somehow Krul also turns that one over the top.

Louis van Gaal had Krul to thanks for some heroics during the World Cup. He's cursing him now.

  126. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Swansea

Harry Kane floats into the spot where he scored the winner in the north London derby, but this time the Tottenham striker's looping header drifts just wide of the post.

  127. CLOSE!

    Man City 1-0 Leicester

So close to an equaliser! Leicester striker Andrej Kramaric floats in a free-kick from the edge of the box, it takes a slight touch off the wall and glances into the side-netting.

  128. Swansea City FC

    Tottenham 1-1 Swansea

    Bafetimbi Gomis

Not many sweeter strikers of a ball than Jonjo Shelvey in the Premier League and the Swansea midfielder is showing his full range tonight.

He warms Hugo Lloris's palms with a 20-yard rising rasper.

  130. Mesut Ozil - an apology

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

I owe you an apology, Mesut Ozil! The reason he didn't score [20:50} is that Karl Henry had him in an armlock as he tried to steer home. That should have been a penalty to Arsenal.

  131. GREAT SAVE!

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

    De Gea

David de Gea is one of the Manchester United players who is not struggling for form this year and the Red Devils are grateful to their goalkeeper for keeping them level. The Spaniard does his best Peter Schmeichel impression to deny Emmanuel Riviere's volley at point-blank range.

Got to score! You've got to score! Mesut Ozil somehow knees the ball over the top from, what, three yards out? Open goal time after mesmeric feet down the right wing from Tomas Rosicky. Brilliant from the Czech midfielder, brilliant. How Ozil hasn't buried that, you'll never know.

    Liverpool 1-0 Burnley

Liverpool could, probably should, be two clear.

Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse squared up in midfield during that first half and television replays seem to show that both players spat at each other.

  145. PENALTY APPEAL

    Liverpool 1-0 Burnley

    Barnes

A half-hearted shout for a penalty from the visiting fans, but that would have been a travesty of justice if Burnley had got a spot-kick.

Martin Skrtel's tackle was untidy, limbs everywhere, but he took the ball from Ashley Barnes fairly and squarely.

  146. HALF-TIME

    Football League latest

Lee Clark has had little reason to be cheerful during his four-and-a-bit months in charge at Blackpool, and it's not going well on his return to Birmingham, who sacked him in October. Andrew Shinnie has given Gary Rowett's side a 1-0 half-time lead against the Championship's bottom club.

Wigan, one place and six points above Blackpool at the start of play, are halfway towards a third successive away win, leading in-form promotion-chasers Norwich 1-0 at the break thanks to South Korea midfielder Kim Bo-Kyung's second goal in two matches.

Blackburn have a comfortable 2-0 interval lead at Sheffield Wednesday, while Ipswich - who dropped out of the play-off places after Brentford won last night - are on course to climb back into sixth, as they are drawing 0-0 at Leeds.

  152. HALF-TIME

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

    Steve Wilson

BBC Match of the Day commentator

"A very good half from Queens Park Rangers. Charlie Austin has had three or four attempts at goal, one of which was beautifully struck but flew just wide. 159. GOAL

    David Silva

Manchester City take the lead after their best move of the night. Aleksander Kolarov pulls back the cross, Wilfried Bony's shot is blocked, David Silva's follow-up is brilliantly blokced by Wes Morgan, but the ball runs free for the Spaniard to slot in from five yards out. Harsh on Leicester.

What a touch from Charlie Austin, in front of the watching Roy Hodgson too. Austin totally does Francis Coquelin with a great turn, and instantly hammers a shot into the side-netting.

  175. CHAMPAGNE MOMENT

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

Carl Jenkinson with a rescue job the Thunderbirds would be proud of.

The on-loan full-back races back to slide in and rob Diego Costa just as the Spaniard is poised to pull the trigger in a one-on-one with Adrian.

Superb defending, took the ball as clean as a whistle despite Costa's dirty looks.

  176. CLOSE!

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

A rare chance for Newcastle as Papiss Cisse brilliantly controls the ball 20 yards out but his ambitious volley goes about 20 yards wide. It would have been some goal.

  177. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Swansea

    BBC Radio 5 live

BBC commentator Jonathan Legard: "Bafetimbi Gomis was talking and he was conscious as he was taken off. It seems as he made his way back to halfway after the Tottenham goal he bent down to adjust his socks and just didn't get up. He seemingly fainted. But we expect official confirmation, maybe at half-time but probably at full-time."

    Gomis injury
  178. GREAT SAVE!

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

And another fine save, this time in west London. QPR winger Matty Phillips hits a dipping, searching ball from the left which is aimed at Charlie Austin but could go straight in and David Ospina reaches out to turn it away.

Arsenal have to make a change at the back as Laurent Koscielny replaces the stricken Gabriel.

  179. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Burnley have been penned back for most of the early stages, but Scott Arfield finally gets an attempt in. It soars high, high over Simon Mignolet's bar from 25 yards though.

  180. GREAT SAVE!

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

    Wilfried Bony

Close to Wilfried Bony's first Manchester City goal, and it's another great save by Mark Schwarzer. The timeless Mark Schwarzer.

Jesus Navas toasts his man down the right and finds Bony at the near post, not the cleanest connection but he's only six yards out. Great save though.

  181. Post update

    Stoke 1-0 Everton

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas

    5 live Sport

"A brilliant header. Victor Moses is just behind the penalty spot, the ball is just behind him and he's leapt up, and what a header. He got such power on the ball, especially for a player who's not renowned for his heading. A fantastic goal."

  182. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    Diego Costa

Chelsea are asking all the questions at Upton Park. Sixty-three percent possession so far and the West Ham defence is getting increasing ragged.

The hosts are creaking and could be leaking a second soon.

  183. GOAL

Stoke 1-0 Everton - Victor Moses (32 mins)

    Victor Moses

What a header! One for Sir Les Ferdinand or Peter Crouch to admire, it's majestic. Stoke work a throw-in out to Phil Bardsley, he not so much crosses it as drills a raking pass into the middle and Victor Moses rises like a mid-90s Michael Jordan, superb air time to then bullet a header into the top corner from at least 15 yards. Wonderful stuff!

  184. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Taxi for Coloccini! The Newcastle defender falls over in the right-back position, presenting Angel Di Maria with a run on goal. He picks out Wayne Rooney, whose touch takes him away from the covering defender but Tim Krul sweeps out to make a firm block at his feet.

  185. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Swansea

The latest news on Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis is that he is being taken to hospital for tests.

The good news is that he is in a stable condition and was speaking as he left the pitch on a stretcher after collapsing in the wake of Tottenham's early goal.

  186. Post update

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal's best move of the night so far releases Kieran Gibbs down the left, he has time to pick a cross but his clipped ball in is just too high for the lurking Olivier Giroud. Arsenal a long way short of their best but that's better...

  187. PENALTY APPEAL

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

    Chris Smalling

Manchester United enjoying the best chances but Newcastle fans still can't believe they haven't had the chance to score from the spot.

TV replays show Chris Smalling was very lucky to get away with his challenge on Emmanuel Riviere in the penalty area as the French forward bust through towards David de Gea's goal.

  188. Post update

    Football League latest

Blackburn are warming up nicely for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final at Liverpool by taking the lead at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. Jordan Rhodes has latched on to a flick on from a throw-in for his 13th goal of the season. A family connection for you: Rhodes' father, Andy, is Wednesday's goalkeeping coach.

Wigan, nine points adrift of safety at the the wrong end of the table, remain 1-0 up at promotion hopefuls Norwich thanks to Kim Bo-Kyung's early goal. Blackpool manager Lee Clark's return to Birmingham is goalless so far, as is the match at Elland Road between Leeds and Ipswich.

  189. Post update

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

"Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is angry in his technical area - not grabbing James McArthur by the throat angry but angry nonetheless - as he believes his side were denied a penalty as Wilfried Bony dragged back Jeff Schlupp. And he has every right to be angry because that looked to be a real escape for Manchester City."

  190. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Swansea

Tottenham are zipping the ball around nicely on the edge of the Swansea box, but are struggling to pick a final ball. Nabil Bentaleb wallops a shot straight into a defender from range.

  191. Post update

    West Ham 0-1 Chelsea

    BBC London 94.9

Former Leyton Orient manager Martin Ling: "It looked offside, but I think the ball was played backwards. Very worrying for West Ham, the space that was granted to Eden Hazard inside the six yard box. Chelsea lead, and that goal is Chelsea all over - it's not luck."

  192. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

Jordan Henderson, perhaps still thinking about that worldie strike against Manchester City at the weekend, takes on a volley on the edge of the area.

Slightly different result this time as he almost clears the stand behind Tom Heaton's goal.

  193. Post update

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

    Joe Hart punches the ball

Leicester having a spell of real threat as new signing Andrej Kramaric bursts clear, goalkeeper Joe Hart comes out and just about gets a touch to the ball. Not a penalty this time, but the men in red are having a real go. Manchester City's early cut and thrust is looking rather blunted.

  194. Post update

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

Charlie Austin has another shot which David Ospina juggles. Ospina looking a bit dubious so far, and at the other end Olivier Giroud shoots from a tight angle which Rob Green holds.

  195. PENALTY APPEAL

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

Wilfried Bony is a lucky boy! Back defending a corner, he pulls a hand across Jeffrey Schlupp's face and the Ghana man goes down. It's a very, very good penalty shout but the referee waves them on...

  196. Post update

    Tottenham 1-1 Swansea

    BBC London 94.9

Former QPR striker Bradley Allen: "Spurs had cleared the ball and it looked as though the pressure had been alleviated, but Swansea were able to rebuild, they swung the ball in and Ki converted from a very acute angle. We said this game would have goals, and it hasn't disappointed. All-out attack from both sides, and the defending hasn't been brilliant."

  197. GOAL

West Ham 0-1 Chelsea - Eden Hazard (22 mins)

    Hazard goal

Sam Allardyce is not going to like this.

Eden Hazard, all five foot and not very much of him, is left in glorious isolation in the middle to direct a header past Adrian from Ramires' cross.

The ball in might have caught a slight deflection, but there is no excuse really. Not one that Big Sam will accept anyway.

  198. Post update

    Newcastle 0-0 Man Utd

Ashley Young takes a whack to the chops from Moussa Sissoko, accidental I think, but Young is left dazed and confused. A touch of the magic sponge and he's OK.

This whole game needs a whiff of smelling salts.

  199. GOAL

    Tottenham 1-1 Swansea - Ki Sung-yeung (19 mins)

    Ki Sung-yeung

Swansea had looked a little dazed in the wake of Bafetimbi Gomis's exit, but they are back in their stride now.

Gylfi Sigurdsson rattles the crossbar with a swerving free-kick against his former club, but he goes from head in hands to punching the air in celebration as Ki Sung-yeung pokes in as the ball comes back into the middle.

  200. CLOSE!

    West Ham 0-0 Chelsea

It has been bits and pieces so far for West Ham, but that was a clear chance.

Kevin Nolan levered his marker out of the way and Cheikhou Kouyate fires the loose ball into the shins of Thibaut Courtois.

  201. Post update

    Man City 0-0 Leicester

    Phil McNulty

    BBC Sport chief football writer

"All very subdued here at The Etihad - although all the serious threat has come from Manchester City. City's fans were frustrated as David Silva took an extra touch instead of shooting and almost all the action taking place in the Leicester City half."

  202. GREAT SAVE!

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

And almost an immediate goal for Liverpool!

Lovely interchange between Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge's bobbly effort is tipped around the post by a sprawling Tom Heaton.

    Football League latest

An early surprise at Carrow Road, where relegation-threatened Wigan have taken the lead against a Norwich side who had won their previous six matches. Kim Bo-Kyung has fired a shot past keeper John Ruddy from around 15 yards.

It's a great start for David Sharpe, the 23-year-old taking over the chairmanship from his grandfather Dave Whelan - who stepped down after 20 years in the role on Tuesday. Only one member of Wigan's starting line-up - defender Harry Maguire - is younger than the new chairman.

There are three other games in the Championship tonight, which are all currently goalless.

    QPR 0-0 Arsenal

    QPR v Arsenal

Arsenal coming into the game slowly but it's QPR who have had much the better of a cagey opening 15 minutes. Charlie Austin's shot from range the best moment so far.

  205. KICK-OFF

    Liverpool 0-0 Burnley

    Under way at Anfield...

  206. YELLOW CARD

    West Ham 0-0 Chelsea

Cheikhou Kouyate is the first man into the book in the London derby at Upton Park, clocking Kurt Zouma with an elbow as the pair contested an aerial ball.

That was accidental rather than cynical.

  207. Post update

    Stoke 0-0 Everton

Darron Gibson sees a low shot easily saved as Everton threaten at Stoke. Aaron Lennon has also started well, bright and lively against one of the sides keen to sign him in January.

  208. Gomis incident, according to BBC local radio

    Tottenham 1-0 Swansea

    BBC London 94.9

Former QPR striker Bradley Allen: "Paramedics are on, as quick as they could. There's a deafening silence here within White Hart Lane. I'm sure a number of the fans here within the ground will have their memories jogged by the Fabrice Muamba incident a few years ago. But of course, you don't want to speculate. Back with Muamba, the medical staff were quite incredible with the job they did. Remember that cardiologist who happened to be in the crowd, a spectator that afternoon? And you know, Muamba was at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

"Gomis' eyes are open, and he's moving his head around. He's wearing an oxygen mask and he's receiving excellent support, with people all around him."

  212. Play suspended

    Tottenham 1-0 Swansea

Something serious appears to have happened at White Hart Lane.

Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis is receiving treatment on the pitch and play has stopped for several minutes with the two sides talking among themselves.

    Jesus Navas

That's a wonderful save from Mark Schwarzer! Jesus Navas beats two men and sees a low shot well saved by the feet of the veteran Australian - the flag was raised for handball but nevertheless it's a fine save.

Manchester City starting at a cracking rate of knots.

  216. GOAL

Tottenham 1-0 Swansea - Nacer Chadli (7 mins)

    Nacer Chadli

Laces for power, side-foot for precision.

One person who has been less than impressed by the former defender's hard work in his wife.

Monk is missing his twins' birthday party for tonight's match. He has apparently "had it in the ear" as a result.

"Radamel Falcao has had a poor time by his high standards, while Marouane Fellaini will always cause problems with his height and physicality.

"For a defender, you have to hope that Manchester United try to keep the ball on the floor and don't want to knock it long. If they go aerial, Fellaini can cause all sorts of problems. "It is a strange decision, to leave Vincent Kompany out. To have him on the bench even is odd - Pellegrini has opened himself up to all sorts of speculation. He has dropped his captain, City's best defender for three seasons. It's a big, brave call.

"Would it not have been slightly easier, with all that Manchester City are going through, to leave him out of the team and leave him out altogether? Then you can say he's been rested, or whatever. To have him on the bench is a clear indication that Kompany has been dropped."

"Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini was forced to defend himself and fight back at suggestions his job will be under threat after the loss at Anfield that followed on from the home defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League leaving him facing the prospect of no trophies this season.

"One things is certain, irrespective of Pellegrini's personal position - City simply cannot afford another slip to bottom club Leicester City here at The Etihad with Chelsea five points clear with a game in hand."

  251. Under pressure?

Man City v Leicester (19:45 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he is under no pressure from the club's owners to retain the Premier League title this season.

The champions are five points behind leaders Chelsea, who also have a game in hand, after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

"The only pressure is when I don't see my team playing like I want it to," added Pellegrini.

"Never when I sign a contract do they tell me I have to win the title every year, or five titles in five years.

"Only one team wins and that doesn't mean all the others are failures. There are different ways to analyse a season, the title is important but not the only important thing."

  252. Manager view

West Ham v Chelsea (19:45 GMT)

    Jose Mourinho

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho: "The players are fine, a good reaction after the League Cup final. The players are strong, we don't have a game at the weekend and they are ready for this.

"We changed Oscar for Willian because he is faster and more direct. We have the two best two goalkeepers in the country so it doesn't matter who plays. Petr Cech had the happiness of the final, so Courtois is compensated by playing in this and the Champions League."

Last year Roberto Martinez steered the Blues to fifth in the Premier League, but it's been a very different kettle of fish this time around.

Should Everton not win at the Britannia tonight, they will have the fewest points total in the Premier League era after 28 games. They've only won one of their last 10 league games.

"The transformation of the team, with everyone talking about the system and how dynamic it is, has been good to see. I should have done it earlier!"

    Angel Di Maria

What do you get for £59.7m these days? In the case of British transfer record signing Angel Di Maria, not a lot.

The Argentine was a genuinely exciting addition to the Premier League when he landed in July. He'd just won the Champions League with Real Madrid and been part of the Argentina side which went all the way to the World Cup final.

Three goals in his first five games in England led us to believe that Di Maria would set the Premier League alight - but he's been snuffed out since.

Di Maria has scored once since. In the last minute at Yeovil.

Man City v Leicester (19:45 GMT)

    Manuel Pellegrini

It's been a bad week for Manchester City.

Outclassed for large periods by Barcelona last Tuesday night, and undone by the high-energy outlook and long-range screamers from Liverpool on Sunday.

When times are hard you couldn't ask for a better game - on paper - than bottom of the league at home.

But in a bizarre but true quirk of fate, Leicester have won every Premier League game they've ever played at City. True.

City to get back on track? Or another nightmare?

    Championship preview

Ipswich Town can move back into the top six of the Championship with a positive result against Leeds United at Elland Road tonight. A point will be enough to move Mick McCarthy's side into the play-off positions at the expense of Brentford.

At the other end of the table, bottom club Blackpool travel to Birmingham looking to end their sequence of six matches without a win. The fixture takes Seasiders manager Lee Clark back to his former club.

Norwich, fresh from their victory over rivals Ipswich, entertain second-bottom Wigan, while Blackburn will move above Sheffield Wednesday if they win the mid-table tussle at Hillsborough.

    Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood said last night that he would rather have the three points his side earned over West Brom than the £54m Euro Millions jackpot.

All very admirable, but lump the lottery money together with some parachute payments and Villa could have taken Cristiano Ronaldo down to the Championship and watched the chaos ensue.

QPR, Burnley and Leicester are all in action tonight and could do with a leg-up towards safety.

    Jose Mourinho

"It's hard for me to live without titles. I need to feed myself with them."

And Jose Mourinho doesn't go hungry for long.

In 14 years of management he has won 21 trophies - or one and a half a year.

He needs at least another pot from this campaign to keep his trophy hunger locked up for summer.

If his Chelsea side beat West Ham tonight and Manchester City slip up at home to Leicester, the Blues will be eight points clear with a game in hand and more than two thirds of the Premier League race run.

"Would Sir like some Brasso with that?"
