David Sharpe could be forgiven for thinking this football chairmanship lark is easy. The 23-year-old is the replacement at Wigan for his grandfather, Dave Whelan, who stepped down on Tuesday - and starts with a 1-0 win at Norwich.

Kim Bo-Kyung's first-half goal ends the Canaries' six-match winning streak, and gives Wigan hope that they could yet avoid relegation - although they are still six points adrift of safety.

Bottom club Blackpool, who are surely doomed, lose 1-0 at Birmingham, while Lancashire neighbours Blackburn warm up for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final at Liverpool with a 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday, courtesy of first-half goals from Jordan Rhodes and Adam Henley.

Ipswich miss the chance to move back into the play-off places, losing 2-1 at Leeds, for whom Billy Sharp volleys a winner.
