The decibel level around the Liberty Stadium goes back up a notch after that Swansea equaliser. United attempt to replicate the quick reply from their opponents, but Luke Shaw's wayward cross from the left touchline is easily claimed by Swans keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

"Ki did well at Sunderland last season, he was a real key player for them and instrumental in them staying up. It was a great run and a super finish from him."

What a response from Swansea! The home side did not deserve to be behind and they trailed for barely two minutes as Ki Sung-yueng levels almost instantly.

The South Korea midfielder ghosts into the United penalty area to steer in Jonjo Shelvey's curling left-wing cross. Beautiful delivery and a very tidy finish.

Swansea have shaded the opening half an hour - but now they are behind. Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera, the man who stopped the Swans scoring in the early stages, puts United ahead with a unstoppable precise drive into the bottom corner. It came after a sweeping move down the left that involved Wayne Rooney.

Bafetimbi Gomis is the focal point of the Swansea attack, and he looks the likeliest to break the deadlock. The Frenchman beats the United offside trap but he can't beat David De Gea to a through ball as the Spanish keeper hurtles out to gather.

"Manchester United may have made an unconvincing start at the Liberty Stadium, but there is some encouraging news for Louis van Gaal's side: Wayne Rooney has had his first shot on target of 2015.

"It was a fairly weak effort easily saved by Lukasz Fabianski, but that is at least the end of an unwanted run of wayward shooting for Rooney."

Jeers from the home supporters as Marouane Fellaini clips the heels of new Swans midfielder Jack Cork inside his own half. The Swansea fans want a booking - but ref Neil Swarbrick settles for giving the big Belgian a ticking off.

Another Swansea corner - which could spell trouble for the away team. After Bafetimbi Gomis twice went close from accurate set-pieces, the home side decide to...play it short. Baffling. The short corner comes to nothing and United are let off the hook.

No real pattern of play yet, as both sides jostle for superiority. United skipper Wayne Rooney, back in his favoured forward position, dashes towards the near post to sweep Luke Shaw's cross goalwards, but it is an easy take for Lukasz Fabianski.

Tom, Cambridge: It's not about who you are it's about what you say. Scholes was amazing but Van Gaal not so much at playing football, but does that mean only amazing ex-players can be managers because Gascoigne didn't work out so well but Sir Bobby, Sir Alex and a few other not so great footballers have done OK!

Andy, Surrey: I agree entirely with Andrew in London regarding Jenas and Kilbane, but from such underachievers I really don't let it worry me. If their views were important it may be a different matter.

Play quickly whizzes back to the other end, where Swansea forward Wayne Routledge's smart turn ends in a low shot straight at United keeper David De Gea. More slack marking from the away defence inside their penalty area.

United skipper Wayne Rooney leaves the set-piece to Angel Di Maria, whose teasing cross from the right is unconvincingly punched clear by Swans keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The ball drops to Robin van Persie, who thunders a rising shot from a tight angle clips the crossbar before fizzing out for a throw-in.

Better possession from Manchester United as they look to stick their first meaningful shot at the Swans' goal. The Red Devils go left, then they go right. But they can't find a gap to put in a cross or a shot before Swansea concede a free-kick close to the right touchline...

Chris Wheatley: Why the arguments about who said Manchester United are not playing well. My 6-year old grandson can see this. It is obvious.

  18. CLOSE!published at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2015

Oh my.... another golden chance for Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis! United's defence leave the big Frenchman isolated again as he rises to stick his dreadlocked head, via a near-post flick-on, on Gylfi Sigurdsson's right-wing corner.

Somehow he misses the target as the home fans wonder how he didn't hit the target. I can't provide an answer...
