"This is not the Manchester United I was brought up on. Yes they are getting the job done and getting points on the board but from a fan's perspective, I am bored. They don't look like they have found a style. Paul Scholes was saying you don't see players taking risks now, which he was always encouraged to do."

And that cheap mistake almost costs United. Argentina defender Marcos Rojo recovers from his initial mistake to concede a corner, from which Bafetimbi Gomis rises highest - unmarked I should add - to head goalwards.

Half the Liberty crowd think it is a goal - but fortunately for United, Ander Herrera is there at the far post to boot off the line with an outstretched foot. Excellent clearance.

The returning Gylfi Sigurdsson wins a free-kick on the halfway line, giving the ball to the men in white for the first time really. Swansea go back initially, then give the ball back to United before Marcos Rojo, who then gifts back possession...

Early warming of the palms for Swans keeper Lukasz Fabianski as he gathers a tame shot from Wayne Rooney. United enjoying the lion's share of the early possession.

The two managers shake hands on the touchline, before referee Neil Swarbrick does a quick head count. The official is happy, toots his whistle for the first time, and that means it is game on.

"What the manager and players will say is that if you are getting the results it can manifest into performances but they have not been exciting.

"Against Preston they won 3-1 but was it convincing? No and that was against a League One side. They didn't have a shot on target until the second half against Preston and they seem to play the same way in every game and it will be the same today until Van Gaal makes a change. He has really good game management which is a real strength."

The familiar strains of Tom Jones's 'Delilah' blasts out of the PA system as the two sides line up in the tunnel. Then, we hear a spooky war-time air-raid siren which acts as an instruction for the players to wander out on to the pitch. Almost show-time....

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says he is close to being able to pick his preferred side for the first time this season.

England midfielder Michael Carrick is the only absentee for United's trip to Swansea on Saturday.

Van Gaal said: "In the first four months I have only been able to select the fit players and, as you know, we have always had 10 or 11 injuries. Now, in the last few months we have only one or two players injured, so that is a big difference."

Rohith Reddy J:, external Good time for Man Utd to put in that performance and end all the "results vs good football" debate for once.

Tony Pepper:, external The fight for Champions League is on, 5 pts separates 5 teams, every game is crucial now, Man United need an away win today.

BBC Match of the Day commentator

"Louis van Gaal is still the subject of strong criticism. From the long-ball team, to not enough pace in the side, to Wayne Rooney's position, to four at the back, there's still much debate to be had about the new look Manchester United.

"It's worth remembering when he first arrived the importance of an immediate return to the Champions League wasn't overstated. The club also expect to be challenging for silverware. As it stands, he's on course to achieve both.

"The opening day victory for Swansea over Manchester United was one of the highlight's so far of Garry Monk's time in charge and he is now going for an unthinkable league double over the Red Devils.

"Swansea will have to improve on their recent form to give Van Gaal another uncomfortable afternoon, although with the current United team you should never rule out a new debate."

    Swansea v Manchester United

The spotlight tends to be on Manchester United whoever they're playing, but it has been a significant few days for Swansea.

A proposed £30m deal with US billionaire John Moores to buy a 30% stake in the club is not expected to go ahead, but the supporters trust - who own 20% of the shares - expect further investment talks.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has addressed the issue in today's match programme.

"I'm positive that any movement away from the current set up will only be put in place if everyone connected to our club is convinced it's a good thing for the football club first and foremost," he writes.

"If not, and this is my opinion, I can see the status quo continuing for some years to come."

So BBC Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas agrees with Paul Scholes's assessment that Manchester United's style is about exciting as a pack of ready salted crisps.

But his wish that Wayne Rooney moves further forward appears to be happening today. You would expect Rooney to start up top alongside the returning Robin van Persie.

Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas: "Manchester United fans and all of us expected a lot more. I get bored very quickly watching them.

"It's weird seeing Wayne Rooney play in midfield. For England, Wayne wanted everything to come through him and he did use to drop into midfield. But it's about what he's better at."

Manchester United's recent results cannot be sniffed at - but that hasn't stopped people questioning their performances. Red Devils legend Paul Scholes (not shy of being vocal in the media these days) was one, blasting his old club's current style under Van Gaal as 'miserable'. Do you agree with Scholes? Or are results more important than performances?

And we also want to hear from you Swansea fans out there. How are you going to cope without Wilfried Bony? Is Bafetimbi Gomis capable of filling the goal gap?

Swansea City manager Garry Monk springs a surprise by switching to a new diamond midfield formation, making two changes from the 2-0 defeat to West Brom. Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson returns from a three-match suspension in place of Jefferson Montero while winger Wayne Routledge comes in for Nathan Dyer and will sit just behind striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal makes three changes from the 3-1 FA Cup win against Preston, with fit-again Robin van Persie replacing Radamel Falcao up front and Paddy McNair and Phil Jones coming in for Antonio Valencia and Chris Smalling in defence.

Back to the present day. Now Swansea face Van Gaal again as they bid to record the South Wales club's first 'double' against the 20-time English champions.

But this Manchester United is arguably a different proposition to the one they faced on the opening day. The Red Devils have taken 34 points from the last 45 - more than any other team in the league has managed during that period.

A couple of hours later, there was a rather different mood among the home fans. Swansea had gatecrashed the party by nicking a 2-1 win.

The Welsh side were the uninvited guest who causes an unsavoury rumpus before sauntering out as everyone else is left stood in stunned silence. After having drank all the free booze of course.

United captain Wayne Rooney's overhead kick cancelled out Ki Sung-yueng's opener for the Welsh side, but some uncertain defending allowed Swans midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson to score a 72nd-minute winner.
