606 host Ian Wright: "I think when Real Madrid come in they will get David De Gea and so if Manchester United can do the deal to get Gareth Bale they should do it. De Gea can make saves but Bale can score goals and make assists."

Everton skipper Phil Jagielka: "We knew we needed to start picking up points and we did that today. Thirty-one points isn't good enough for us but that's what we've got and we need to move on. We are used to seeing ourselves on the first page [of the table], we have been in the bottom half for too long."

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: "This was a massive game after losing to Arsenal. Besides the first five minutes we had control of the match, scored beautiful goals and didn't give much away. Arsenal was a big blow but I had a very good feeling when the players showed at training the same spirit as before. I've had 25 years as a manager and I've seen that players after a defeat are not always like that."

Wayne Rooney defended himself after United's 3-0 win following claims in a national newspaper that he was knocked out at his home while boxing with friend and Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley.

Newcastle boss John Carver: "Even 11 v 11 we were second best, we started brightly, and had a chance of a penalty but we don't get those so that's no surprise. We had our best chances when we went to down 10-man and the loss of Fabricio Coloccini for the next three games is even more disappointing. I've looked at it from four or five angles and I'm not totally convinced. The reaction from the Everton players told me it was something serious but when I've looked at it I wasn't convinced."

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal on BBC Radio 5 live: "We can be very pleased with the performance, the result and our reaction to the defeat against Arsenal. When you get a blow like that from Arsenal you need a fantastic team spirit and individual spirit, and I saw that.

"When you score goals, your confidence raises and you can pass more quickly, but Tottenham wanted to play also and you always need two teams who want to play and you have more space to play football.

"Michael Carrick is not not my second captain for nothing. He is one of the best passes also, not only wide but also forward. We need midfielders who have that passing. When you can also score the second goal you have a big influence in the game."
