"Newcastle defender Mike Williamson and Tim Krul were having a long debate about that goal."
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Old Trafford
"All one way so far - Manchester United's fast start has left Spurs ragged and threatening to be over-run. It is the sort of display (albeit in its early stages) that Old Trafford has witnessed on too few occasions this season and United's fans are revelling in it."
A lay off from Romelu Lukaku, collected by James McCarthy, who lets fly with a crisp strike from 20 yards. It is a decent low effort but Newcastle Tim Krul gets it all wrong, heading off in the wrong direction. McCarthy's first goal of the season.
It's the Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini show at Old Trafford. A corner is whipped into the Spurs penalty area and Fellaini is up to power a header towards goal. It is only half cleared and Carrick, standing 12 yards out, nods the ball over a sea of heads and into the net.
Kyle Walker's backpass falls well short of Hugo Lloris and it requires Jan Vertonghen's intervention to mop up.
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Old Trafford
"Manchester United have penned Spurs back with some high-tempo football and Old Trafford has responded. Marouane Fellaini's goal was not only a fine finish by the Belgian but also a perfect example of what Michael Carrick offers Louis van Gaal's team with a pass of great precision and composure."
More pressure from Everton, who work the ball out to Romelu Lukaku on the right but his fizzing centre across the six-yard line is cleared for a corner. Tim Krul punches the resulting set-piece away.
Tottenham - and Harry Kane - have yet to have a sniff at United's goal. Juan Mata is making a real impact threading some lovely passes and creating space. Spurs don't know how to handle him.
Rob Meech:, external Great finish by Fellaini from a perfectly weighted pass by Carrick. Man Utd really miss him when he's absent.
Ben Turner:, external Take Harry Kane out of the equation (as United are trying to do) and Spurs become exposed as a very average team.
Kuntal Majumdar:, external Fellaini not scoring from a header. This United team is upside down. LVG out.

"The game is becoming very stretched here early on. It gives an advantage to the athletes on either side."
You don't see Marouane Fellaini score like that too often. A fine left-foot finish and a real collector's item. Tottenham are on the back-foot.
BBC summariser Robbie Savage at Old Trafford on BBC Radio 5 live
"What a ball from Michael Carrick. Back in the team and his first thought is to play the ball forward. What a finish from Fellaini. You have to ask questions of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris - he has dived with his foot.
"But great play by Carrick. If Daley Blind was in that area they wouldn't have scored the goal as he would have played it sideways."
Great start by Manchester United. And a superb composed finish by Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian is played through by Michael Carrick's superb ball but still has work to do. He beats Hugo Lloris with a low shot across the Spurs keeper.
Chance at the other end for Everton as Romelu Lukaku cuts in from the right, but his shot is easily gathered by Tim Krul. And a minute or so later he tries again, and draws another save from the Newcastle goalkeeper. Bright opening at Goodison.
Matt Cartwright:, external Rooney is bound to score against Spurs just so he can do some kind of boxing celebration.
Michael Blighe:, external Looking at Newcastle's next few games, today's match against an out-of-sorts Everton is probably our best shot at some points.

Into the second half now and it remains Dundee United 0-1 Celtic - with Kris Commons's first-half strike still separating the teams.
You can follow - and indeed watch - that match on our separate live text commentary.
Chance for Newcastle from an early corner as Tim Howard saves Gabriel Obertan's close-range shot and then James McCarthy blocks Mike Williamson's rebound, with the Newcastle defender appealing for handball. Not given by referee Martin Atkinson.

"Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, yes they are big and strong and athletic but questions have to be asked defensively. On the ball I think they are one of the worst parings Manchester United have ever had. If United do not invest in one or two new centre-backs then there is something seriously wrong with the scouting network at this club."
First shot in anger at Old Trafford comes from Ashley Young but it's all too easy for Hugo Lloris. Then a needless corner for Spurs after Phil Jones' intended backpass goes horribly wrong.
