Mario Balotelli needs some treatment and I'm not surprised. A defender lands on his Achilles as they go up for a header, that looked very painful.

"Mario Gomez at his best! Spurs had controlled possession... but that was like the threat at the start of the game with counter-attacking tactics from Fiorentina.

"Spurs need to regroup. It looks like Fiorentina are already going to make a second change. That is how their coaches deal with game management.

"Pochettino has given the word for some of his subs to warm up. I can see Harry Kane."

Mario Gomez reminds me that he is not quite a washed-up striker as he pulls away from Federico Fazio to burst onto a through ball and stroke the ball between Hugo Lloris' legs. Composed finish, classy even. Fazio was at fault originally, giving the ball away on halfway.

Spurs now definitely going out unless they score - though a goal for the men from White Hart Lane would force extra-time. Three days before the Cup final...

"That is as good as Roberto Soldado's chance. Milan Badelj side-footed it but if he had put his foot through the ball Hugo Lloris would not have stopped it and that would be 2-1 in the tie."

Besiktas now go reasonably close as Jose Sosa is given time to get a shot away from the edge of the area, he hits it well enough but it was always a routine stop for Simon Mignolet. All Besiktas since half-time though.

Fiorentina do almost get a second goal in the tie as a mazy run down the right ends with Milan Badelj scuffing a shot at Hugo Lloris. He was only 15 yards out and central, a proper connection would have caused Spurs all sorts of grief.

"Fiorentina are attacking the bulk of their own support here, the dilemma now is how open do they go. Do they go for that second goal to try and kill off the tie off or will they always be defensive and make sure the gate is locked?"

Actor JK Simmons was 1/66 to win an Oscar last Sunday. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that. I'd now give you the same price on Mario Balotelli being sent off in this game. He's smoldering, and Besiktas are winding him up to boot.

Liverpool are 45 minutes away from a place in the last 16. They've been untroubled so far and had the best openings in the first half. Nobody's told the Besiktas fans though, who are still giving it plenty.

"We are only going to know at the end of the match how crucial Soldado's chance is going to be.

"Will Spurs rue that because maybe from the 30-minute mark onwards they really had a good spell of pressure in this game and showed their qualities."

Roberto Martinez is not on the same page as me - again - as he starts Romelu Lukaku tonight. I'd have given the big man a night off for his hat-trick last week.

Dutch champions Ajax will be resting easy at the break in Poland as a brace from Arkadiusz Milik and a goal from Nick Viergever has given them a 3-0 advantage on the night against Legia Warsaw, 4-0 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, defending champions Sevilla have not got it so easy at Borussia Monchengladbach as the Germans have fought back to make it 2-2 at Borussia Park. Thorgan Hazard (brother of Chelsea's Eden) grabbed the equaliser but the Spanish visitors lead 3-2 on aggregate.

Luciano Vietto has levelled things up for fellow Spaniards Villarreal, semi-finalists in 2011, against FC Red Bull in Salzburg. It's 3-2 on aggregate to the visitors.

His one-handed stop tonight was genuinely world class. Brilliant.
