Dnipro are through! The Ukrainian side book their place in the last eight of the Europa League for the first time after an away-goals victory. Ajax were well short of their best.

Ajax fans are roaring their side forward but Dnipro are given a reprieve as Mike van der Hoorn is harshly punished for a foul on the edge of the visitors' box.

And the Dutch side are trying to push forward but an over-hit pass forward does not please the locals. Tick tock.

What was that about Mike van der Hoorn? The defender heads the ball home after Davy Klaaassen's header comes back off the bar to set up a big finale for Ajax. They need one more.

Mike van der Hoorn is normally a centre-back but he's been thrown up front to play as a makeshift striker - with little effect. This is hardly the brand of football we're used to seeing from Ajax.

Yevhen Seleznyov fires narrowly wide after Nikola Kalinic's lay-off. There's less than eight minutes left and Dnipro are looking pretty comfortable.

If Ajax can just manage to get one goal, the Dnipro nerves will be tested. As it stands, though, Frank de Boer's side do not look particularly likely to score.

Dnipro coach Olexandr Ivanov is already checking his watch. Yevhen Seleznyov is coming on in place of Yevheniy Konoplyanka, whose goal has the Ukrainians on their way through.

Some bad news for Juventus ahead of Friday's Champions League draw as it is confirmed that midfielder Paul Pogba will be out for two months after tearing a muscle in his right thigh.

Former Manchester United player Pogba came off during the 3-0 victory at Borussia Dortmund and has been ruled out for a very specific '50 days'.

Just as Villarreal hoped they were back in the tie, their task has become even harder after a sending off. Eric Bailly picks up his second yellow card and Yellow Submarine now face the final 13 minutes with 10 men.

Mensur Fabregas Čubrović: One more cup than others. In 15 days English clubs play 6 games, others 3 or maybe 4. When others get rest on Boxing days, English clubs play 4 games in seven days. To much tiredness for all players in English clubs. I think schedule for all bigger English clubs are the biggest reason why English clubs play very bad in European Competitions last few years.

Christopher Leathley: We seem to be declining in both Intensity (defensively and offensively) and quality it seems. 22 years since this last happened. It has been a disastrous campaign, but I doubt next season will be as bad as this. Very poor from Everton and a fantastic display from Dynamo. Some great goals in that game.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez downplays his side's questionable defensive performance in their 5-2 defeat at Dynamo Kiev as they exited the competition 6-4 on aggregate.

"A couple of times we made some defensive mistakes but there was also some incredible finishing from the opposition. Some of the goals, it would be difficult to see them again in the same game," says Martinez.

"I agree there were instances when we could have defended better but there is not a lot you can do about goals that go right into the top corner."

In Spain, Sevilla are sitting pretty against fellow La Liga side Villarreal. It's goalless on the night and that suits Unai Emery's team just fine, thanks to their 3-1 victory in the first leg.

It's tight in Amsterdam, where Ajax need to score to keep their campaign alive. So far, Dnipro have created the better chances, with Nikola Kalinic going close for the Ukrainian team.

What a chance for Inter. These need to go in if Inter are to pull off the finest comeback since the last great one I mentioned. A cross from the right lands at the feet of Fredy Guarin, he connects well enough but Diego Benaglio pushes it over.

Sevilla are clearly quite content to sit back and look for chances to hit Villarreal on the break. Aleix Vidal has half a chance to put the hosts further ahead but delays his shot and Sergio Asenjo smothers the opportunity. At the other end, Manu Trigueros drags a shot wide from the edge of the box.

Zenit are managed by former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas, will he lift a European trophy again? He won this cup with Porto four years back.

The German side go close again as goalscorer Daniel Caligiuri has a curling shot pushed away. Still only one goal in the late kick-offs.

Fiorentina take their place in Friday's quarter-final draw after seeing off Italian rivals Roma.

The tie was finely poised after a 1-1 draw in the first leg but Vincenzo Montella's side were out of sight within 22 minutes.

Gonzalo Rodriguez scored from the penalty spot before Marcos Alonso made it 2-0 in the 18th minute. Four minutes later it was 3-0 and 4-1 on aggregate when Jose Maria Basanta weighed in with a goal.

That is a big goal! Everton in tatters at the back again as they fail to deal with a high ball in, it's a punt forward, Phil Jagielka heads it down to Miguel Veloso, and his shot is deflected past Tim Howard from the edge of the box.

The man who was linked with a move to Spurs every two months for years has put Everton on the back foot again. We will not have extra-time now.

It's easy to forget that Romelu Lukaku is only six weeks older than Harry Kane. Lukaku has got every ingredient to be a top-class striker for many years to come. And that goal was as good as I've seen him score. Everton back in control, they could concede again and we would have extra-time.

Italian Serie A

In some news from around Europe, Serie A club Parma have been declared bankrupt by a court in Italy but will be allowed to see out of the season.

The club's debts are estimated at nearly 75m euros (£54m).

Giampietro Manenti promised to clear the debts when he took over as chairman last month but he was arrested on Wednesday after being accused of involvement in a credit card scam.

The Italian league has allocated 5m euro (£3.6m) so the league's bottom club can fulfil their fixtures.

Here's Dynamo Kiev coach Sergei Rebrov having a shot for Tottenham in 2000.

For fans of a younger age, Rebrov was a really exciting signing for Spurs. No, he was. Alongside Andriy Shevchenko - who would later go on to flop at Chelsea - he had forged a brilliant strike partnership for Kiev and was expected to set the Premier League alight.

However, he scored just 10 Premier League goals in four years before an equally unproductive season with West Ham. A season I'd completely forgotten about, in fact.

A busy night

As ever on Europa League Thursdays our fixtures are split over two - in fact three - time zones.

It has been 30 years since Everton were in a European quarter-final.

In the 1985 Cup Winners' Cup - which the Toffees went on to win - Everton had to beat University College Dublin and Internacional Slovnaft Bratislava to reach the last eight. Four games to navigate. That season they also won the league. By 13 points. From Liverpool.

Tonight they are 90 minutes away from once more reaching the last eight of a European competition. Thirty years on, they have already had to play nine times in the bloated Europa League, which has possibly contributed to a disappointing Premier League season.
