For all the chat this week that Manchester City are in need of a summer reboot, Everton's side is starting to show its age.

At the back goalkeeper Tim Howard is 36, Phil Jagielka 32, Leighton Baines 30 and Sylvain Distin 37, while Gareth Barry is 34 and Leon Osman 33.

Roberto Martinez does have the likes of John Stones, Ross Barkley, Luke Garbutt and Mo Besic in his squad though. Time to replace the old guard?

Everton are the last Premier League side standing in Europe - but how far can they go? They've beaten Wolfsburg home and away already, and scan down the list of teams still in the cup and you'd fancy their chances against most.

Can they win it and earn a place in the Champions League?

If not, who are favourites, and why?

There's a familiar face in the Kiev dugout - former Spurs striker Sergei Rebrov is their coach. And you can't accuse him of not doing his homework, coming up with this gem in his pre-match news conference:

"Romelu Lukaku is a key player, but we can't focus only on him. Leighton Baines, who has returned, is important; Luke Garbutt's free-kicks are very dangerous … there are many good players at Everton."

Luke Garbutt may be still making a name for himself at Everton - but he's a marked man on the Dnieper...

  4. A busy nightpublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

As ever on Europa League Thursdays our fixtures are split over two - in fact three - time zones.

The first game of the night has already kicked off with Dinamo Moscow attempting to claw back a 3-1 first-leg deficit against Napoli. Christopher Samba - remember him? - has had a goal disallowed in a frantic start.

Kicking-off at the same time as Everton is an all-Serie A affair between Roma and Fiorentina, which is locked at 1-1 after the first leg.

At 20:05 GMT there are five ties, with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg 3-1 up over Inter in the pick of them.

We will stay with those ties through the evening - and you can check out all of the fixtures here.

  5. Christmas World Cuppublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

The scheduling of the 2022 World Cup has been a hot topic for months, years even. But we now know that the World Cup final in Qatar will be held on December 18, 2022. Don't book any panto tickets for that night.

Read more on that developing story here.

Fifa have also confirmed this evening that the 2019 women's World Cup will be held in France.

  6. Record-breaking Rompublished at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

    Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku's penalty last week means he is now Everton's record goalscorer in European football. I was staggered to read that - but he has smashed in seven goals in eight appearances this season.

He scored five against Young Boys alone.

  7. Better for Barry?published at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Dynamo Kiev, who top the Ukrainian Premier League with an unbeaten home record, have won their last four home games in Europe by a margin of two goals or more.

Kiev beat Manchester City at the same stage of the competition in 2011, when Everton midfielder Gareth Barry was part of the City squad.

Barry told Everton TV: "My memories are that the atmosphere there was electric and their players play on that. We need to keep calm, stay focused and play our normal game.

"We have to take the confidence from the first-leg performance. The first 20 minutes were disappointing but we have to take heart from the way we then dominated in the second half.

"If we go out there and do the same, there is no reason why we can't go through. Then you can start getting excited and talking about quarter-finals.

"When you are talking about three or four ties away from a European final, these opportunities don't come around too often in your career. It's important the players realise that, so we have to try to take advantage."

  8. Pitch (im)perfectpublished at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

The pitch at the Olympic National Sports Complex is far from ideal tonight. Take a look at that - looks pretty sandy to me.

Everton didn't train on the pitch last night to prevent further damage. Hit Lukaku over the top?

  9. Team Newspublished at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

    Everton

Everton make four changes from the side which played Newcastle at the weekend. Aaron Lennon is cup-tied and is replaced by Christian Atsu, while Gareth Barry, Ross Barkley and Steven Naismith all start.

Everton: Howard; Coleman, Jagielka, Alcaraz, Baines; Barry, McCarthy, Naismith, Atsu, Barkley, Lukaku.

Last men standing. Everton are the sole survivors from the Premier League still in European competition.

They bring a 2-1 lead to Ukraine this evening but Oleg Gusev's away goal at Goodison last week means that a 1-0 win will do it for the hosts.

Can Everton keep the English flag flying?

It has been 30 years since Everton were in a European quarter-final.

In the 1985 Cup Winners' Cup - which the Toffees went on to win - Everton had to beat University College Dublin and Internacional Slovnaft Bratislava to reach the last eight. Four games to navigate. That season they also won the league. By 13 points. From Liverpool.

Tonight they are 90 minutes away from once more reaching the last eight of a European competition. Thirty years on, they have already had to play nine times in the bloated Europa League, which has possibly contributed to a disappointing Premier League season.

They've come this far, they may as well go on and win it, right?
