Jamey C Barron: Why are England playing 6 defensive players against "Lith-who-aint-here"? In preparation for being hammered by a proper team?

Fred Windsor: England are displaying their unbelievably average form against a sub-standard international team.

Is it time to open the debate over whether the so-called lesser nations should be in the same qualifying groups as the 'larger' teams?

Harry Kane is imminent. Lithuania have a shot as the loneliest man on the field, striker Deivydas Matulevicius, blazes over from range.

  6. Postpublished at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 27 March 2015

    Chris Waddle
BBC Radio 5 live at Wembley

"I thought Lithuania were poor in the first half. In the second half so far they've been absolutely woeful.

"You can only beat what's in front of you. You can't fault England for the way they've gone about their job but these are absolutely woeful."

    Not a fan then, Chris?

  7. Postpublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 27 March 2015

Harry Kane is warming up with Ross Barkley at one end of Wembley. Surely Kane must get on soon?

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

"England can only beat what is in front of them and what is in front of them is not very much. This Euro 2016 qualifier has now been reduced to a wait for Harry Kane to come on."

Another fabulous cross from the right, from Raheem Sterling this time, is almost converted at the back post but a yellow shirt gets a touch on it. Get it wide, get it in the middle. England not reinventing the wheel, but winning and winning well.

"A tap-in for Sterling. Rooney doing excellent work down the right, put it on a plate for him.

"Roy Hodgson must have a huge grin. Everyone said he had to play Harry Kane and now all three strikers have got a goal. Game dead and buried now."

A bit more on that penalty appeal from Danny Welbeck just before the England goal 0 he went down at pace and there was contact from Tadas Kijanskas. But he made the most of it...

What did I tell you Raheem? Get up there and you'll score. Wayne Rooney is the creator from wide on the right, putting in a fine low cross which was crying out for a tap-in and Raheem Sterling obliges. His first for England.

More good play from Danny Welbeck as he drills a cross across goal but it's cleared away. Attack against defence, if you've never scored for England now's your chance. Get up there!

Raheem Sterling takes aim and sees his shot charged down. England's back four camped inside the Lithuania half.

Three minutes into the second half of the friendly in Prague and England Under-21 captain for the evening Tom Carroll has put the visitors ahead against Czech Republic.

Carroll fired home when he got on the end of a cross from Calum Chambers, however Carroll subsequently limped out with a knock and has been replaced in midfield by Will Hughes.

Eddy: We could play with one at the back and six up front in most of these qualifiers however we need to play a system that we will use when we get to a tournament.

Andrew, Stalybridge: So I've been sat at home watching a very controlled and competent qualifier performance by a team which hasn't played together for several months, ahead of an interesting friendly against Italy. I go online and see that we've lost several World Cup knockout matches. Have I missed something?

Iain Simons: To compare Carrick to Xavi or Pirlo is like comparing a value burger to a fine fillet steak.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 27 March 2015

Maybe Danny Welbeck knew his place was under scrutiny tonight. Another strike on goal from the Arsenal man after another assertive run. Putting himself out there. Grabbing his chance.

England on the fringes of a heavy win here. Raheem Sterling has been quiet tonight but he's in behind again with pace, good goalkeeping though to sweep up and clear his lines.

"Great save. Delph does everything right, hits it down into the ground and it's just a reaction more than anything from the goalkeeper. It hit his forearm."
