Junior Hoilett's frame-finding effort is sign of your luck when you're anchored in the bottom three. But, if nothing else, it brings the home fans to life as their side search for an equaliser.

QPR almost instantly get back on level terms! Junior Hoilett rattles the crossbar with a vicious 25-yard curling strike, before Bobby Zamora bundles in the rebound. However, the celebrations are curtailed as the linesman's flag on the far side is wafting in the west London wind.

  3. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

After a brief wait, QPR amble back out too. No changes for either side as Everton restart proceedings.

Everton re-emerge from the Loftus Road tunnel first after the break, the camera panning on Toffees goalscorer Seamus Coleman as he throws some energy-boosting liquid down his neck.

Times journalist Rory Smith:, external The Premier League's nicest man - Alejandro Faurlin - on the pitch at half-time. Coming back from his third cruciate ligament knee injury. Lovely man, terrible luck.

Of course it goes without saying that QPR must do their own dirty work if they are going to escape an instant return to the Championship. But their bid will also be helped if the teams above them continue to drop points too.

However, West London rivals Chelsea aren't helping them at the moment. The leaders have squandered a two-goal advantage at sixth-bottom Hull, who will pick up a vital point as it stands at the KC Stadium.

Hull were six points clear of QPR before today's matches.

"QPR have been lacklustre given the plight they are in apart from Joey Barton, who has really tried to lead the side. It's the quality that Everton have which has been difference between the two teams. QPR had a bright start, but the frustration continues. It's all been half chances in the first half and they have to improve on that after the break."

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

No, QPR can't use that minute's grace to nab a leveller. In fact I don't think they touched the ball before referee Jon Moss peeped his whistle.

Everton lead through Seamus Coleman's crisp finish and are set to move up to 14th. Second-bottom QPR are staying deep in the relegation mire as it stands.

The clock ticks past the allotted 45-minute mark. Think we are having just the one extra minute - can QPR use it to their advantage?

"John Stones has been very impressive, he's really handled Bobby Zamora well in this first half."

What a waste! Joey Barton goes short to Matty Phillips, who ambitiously tries his luck from about 35 yards. Nooooo! He slices the ball horribly wide. That's infuriating - and I'm not a QPR fan. I'd be fuming if I was one of the QPR centre-backs who had trotted forward...

  13. Postpublished at 16:44 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

Opportunity for QPR? possibly. John Stones, who has otherwise been excellent, gives away a free-kick in a central position about 40 yards from the Everton goal. Go on lads, get yourself up from the back into the box...

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

Ouch! Aaron Lennon is unceremoniously dumped on to the lush Loftus Road turf by a wild challenge from Junior Hoilett. Not much intent from the QPR man, just executed with the timing of an inappropriate joke. Hoilett isn't laughing - he becomes the first man to go into Jon Moss's notebook.

  15. Postpublished at 16:39 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

Matty Phillips looks full of confidence - as you would imagine after his worldly of a goal last weekend. The QPR speedster has more tricks than Dynamo, stepping and shimmying over the ball on the right. But he can't deliver and it allows Leighton Baines, that wily old full-back, to dispossess him.

  16. Postpublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

Although that throw-in does not create another Everton chance, it does allow the visitors to build up some territorial advantage. The away side quieten Loftus Road by neatly passing the ball around in their opponents' half. However, they can't work an opening before QPR nick back possession.

This pass is a thing of beauty. Darron Gibson curls a wonderful 40-yard pass into the path of Aaron Lennon, who hares down the right flank to win a throw-in near the corner flag. I've almost drooled on my keyboard.

"That was a glorious opportunity for Bobby Zamora. QPR need to be more clinical in front of goal, but Everton are sinking deeper and deeper into their own half."

  19. Postpublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

QPR striker Bobby Zamora could have bagged a hat-trick on another day. Another chance goes begging as Charlie Austin's curling cross from the right brushes his forehead and goes out for a goal-kick. A team in QPR's perilous position needs to converting those...

  20. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2015

A whiff of a penalty shout for Everton? Darron Gibson's shot just inside the box is closed down by the sliding frame of QPR captain Joey Barton who appeared to block the attempt on goal with his arms. Barton can't have meant it, though.
