Just to reiterate for the umpteenth time... the top eight teams are separated by just eight points with seven games remaining.

  4. The race for the Premier Leaguepublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

So who is going to nab those top two automatic places? And who will have to make do with the consolation of a play-off place. It would be easier to hazard a guess at who will be the Leeds United manager at Easter 2016.

To help you decide (who will win the Championship's tightest promotion race, not who will be Leeds United manager at Easter 2016), have a read through BBC Sport's look at the form, facts and prospects of all eight runners and riders.

  5. The race for the Premier Leaguepublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Every weekend seems to throw up a humdinger of a Championship match at the moment. And that's because only eight points separate eight teams at the business end of the table.

Today is no different. Leaders Bournemouth go to sixth-placed Ipswich in the tea-time kick-off, while second-placed Watford travel to fifth-placed Derby in the final game of a packed day.

  6. Countdown to kick-offpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

What can you do in 90 minutes? Play a full match of football? Cook a tasty casserole? Pop to the supermarket for a Bank Holiday shop? However you want to spend the next hour and a half, that's how long you have got until the first of Football League matches kick-off. So it is time to switch our attention to the Championship, League One and League Two...

Make some room on the mantelpiece. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been named Barclays manager of the month and striker Olivier Giroud player of the month.

Arsenal won four successive Premier League games in March, scoring nine goals and conceding two.

  8. John Carver news conferencepublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

You might be aware there is the small matter of a Wear-Tyne derby this weekend.

And there has been some bad news for Newcastle manager John Carver as full-back Massadio Haidara will not play again this season after undergoing surgery on his troublesome knee.

It is a further blow to an already depleted defence with Steven Taylor and Paul Dummett out through injury and captain Fabricio Coloccini suspended.

"We have had a good week with Mehdi Abeid and Rolando Aarons, but we are going to be careful. Rolando won't be in the squad this weekend, but Mehdi will be," said Carver.

  9. Tony Pulis news conferencepublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Tony Pulis has done a superb job since taking over from Alan Irvine as West Brom boss and is looking to secure the team's future in the Premier League.

Last season, the Baggies struggled, finishing just three points about the relegation zone, but they will be looking to move 11 points clear of the bottom three when they face QPR on Saturday.

"The club has gone a little bit off the rails in the last two or three years," said Pulis. "I don't think anyone can argue about that, it is now just about trying to get it back on track.

"We will talk about it (the summer transfer market) once we have achieved our goals - which is to stay up. We are still points away from that. Once that is achieved we will sit down and talk to the chairman."

  10. Premier League news conferencespublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal and Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho have said everything they want to say to the media. But a little earlier there were a couple of other Premier League managers who also faced the media. Here's what West Brom's Tony Pulis and Newcastle's John Carver had to say...

  11. Jose Mourinho press conferencepublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

During the break from domestic footballing matters, John Terry signed a new contract extension that will see the ex-England skipper stay at Stamford Bridge until the end of next season.

Mourinho has been explaining why the international break was a good time to break the good news.

"It was a question of details and timing, we all found the period without football a good one to sign it and make it public, so everyone knows with two months of the season to go that John is staying with us."

  12. Louis van Gaal news conferencepublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Carrington: "Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was in playful mood as he spoke to the media at Manchester United's Aon Training Complex this lunchtime.

"Wished a Happy Easter by a member of the media, he looked at his watch, noted the time - midday - and said it was a little early as Jesus did not begin his walk to the cross until 2pm.

"Then, as he was leaving, Van Gaal smiled and said that in the true sense, wishing someone a 'Happy Easter' was really only appropriate on Sunday."

  13. Jose Mourinho news conferencepublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Imagine if Chelsea skipper John Terry was presented with the Premier League trophy in the Copthorne hotel at Stamford Bridge? Or the Premier Inn near Sandwell before the final trip of the season to West Brom? Jose Mourinho wouldn't care.

"I don't care if we won the title and the trophy was presented in the hotel, away or home - I just want to win it. Our last match is at home, so if we win the title we get the trophy at our house, but I don't care. I just want to win it."

  14. Jose Mourinho news conferencepublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Anyone out there reckon Chelsea are not going to wrestle the Premier League title back from Manchester City? Nope, me neither. Chelsea are six points clear of second-placed City - with a game in hand. And Jose Mourinho has been channelling his inner Carol Vorderman to work out what the Blues must do.

"We need six wins and a draw, for us the situation is the one the other clubs would like to be in. It's pure mathematics, we need to win six games and draw one but we have not done it yet," says the Portuguese boss.

"I'm not thinking about how or when, just that we need to win six, draw one and every victory is one less that we need and one less for opponents to reach us."

  15. Jose Mourinho news conferencepublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Every week Diego Costa appears to be an injury doubt. Every week he seems to score and/or wind up a Premier League defender. So what's the problem?

"He dedicated himself, there were no days off, he worked morning and afternoon, we did all the scans to confirm scientifically that he is all right," says Jose Mourinho.

"The muscle is fine, but you need the confidence to play with intensity and be free to express yourself at maximum intensity. That's our doubt, but he will be selected for sure."

  16. Jose Mourinho news conferencepublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

I'm not exactly sure how John Obi Mikel can be tired - he hasn't started for the Blues since the shock FA Cup defeat by Bradford in January. Is that the distinct whiff of marginalisation I can smell? I think it is.

However, key midfielder Eden Hazard does have an excuse to be a little worn out after playing almost every minute for club and country this season.

"Hazard is tired because of two matches in three days, but we think he can recover and obviously he starts tomorrow," says Mourinho.

"He's important, I want to play him every time and his coach for his country wants to play him every time."

  17. Jose Mourinho news conferencepublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says the Premier League leaders have no new injury worries ahead of the home match against Stoke - but "tired" midfielder John Obi Mikel will not play.

"We have no injuries, but Mikel is not selected, he is fine and working all week but he very tired so he is not selected but not injured.

"Diego Costa trained yesterday am today, he's not injured, I don't know if I'll start him or not. I need to make a decision, but the medical department is empty."

  18. Jose Mourinho news conferencepublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Jose Mourinho appears at Cobham to chat to the media ahead of tomorrow's match against Stoke City. The Portuguese boss is sounding a little gruff and sniffly - I think he is feeling under the weather.

  19. Louis van Gaal news conferencepublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 3 April 2015

Louis van Gaal says Manchester United can still win the Premier League title - mathematically at least. But the Dutchman, as he has repeatedly said, is only focusing on a top-four finish.

"The top four is still a rat race. I said when we had 13 points from 11 games and we were getting a lot of criticism that we would see at the end of the season. We will still see at the end of the season. We still have the top three to play.

"Can we still win the title? Mathematically, we can still do it."
