BBC Match of the Day commentator

"Hull's remaining fixtures are as nasty a set of matches as you'll find. After Southampton, they still have to play Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United at home, and face away trips to Burnley and Alan Pardew's revitalised Palace.

"Twelve months ago they thought their upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United was a big game - these games are all bigger by far.

"Southampton look resigned to the thought that breaking the Champions League cartel isn't going to happen this season. Their target now must be achieving a highest top-flight finish in three decades - - since they were fifth in 1985."

Aaron Lennon has confidence coursing through his veins now, skinning two men right on the touchline and putting 45 yards behind him, burning up the pitch. His final ball isn't the best though and Arouna Kone loses the ball.

"The onus is on Swansea now, as the home team, to throw a few more bodies forward, to raise the energy levels to get back into the game. But I would say the same of Everton too, because both sides looked a little flat in the first half for me."

Southampton's Shane Long is pretty happy with the St Mary's surface - and his mug shot on the front of the programme - ahead of the visit of Hull.

Harvey, Belfast: What a difference Steven Pienaar makes going forward for Everton. Great link play and can see a pass. Missed him massively.

John Pierce: Aaron Lennon earning a serious tilt at a contract, paving the way for a Kevin Mirallas exit. Ironically to Spurs?

Aaron Lennon - who scored for Everton in their last away game at QPR - has now scored in two successive away games for the first time in his Premier League career.

He doesn't get many. Not enough to be honest.

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Wales Sport

"Swansea manager Garry Monk might feel a little aggrieved to see his team trail at half-time. The decision to disallow Jonjo Shelvey's spectacular volley seemed harsh, referee Michael Oliver deeming Wayne Routledge had fouled Leighton Baines.

"But Everton finished the half strongly, with Aaron Lennon's goal on the counter-attack prompting a brief spell of pressure from the visitors much to the delight of their travelling fans. Considering how these two teams tend to favour a fluid, possession-based playing style, this has been an unusually scrappy affair."

Swansea's attacking threat pinged alongside Bafetimbi Gomis' hamstring. Marvin Emnes has not offered much and you can't see where a goal is coming from for the hosts - bar a stunning long-range effort from Jonjo Shelvey or Gylfi Sigurdsson.

    Former Wales striker John Hartson
BBC Radio 5 live at the Liberty Stadium

"Swansea have looked a little bit short up front since Bafetimbi Gomis came off. None of the three players up there now are taking up the mantle of being the one main guy who they play off.

"Roberto Martinez will settle his players down at half-time and help them realise the opportunity they have to pick up three valuable points away from home."

A stunning goal disallowed, a scruffy goal scored. That's the story of the half which ended with Everton well on top.

  18. Postpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 11 April 2015

Lovely stuff, it really is. Seamus Coleman to Aaron Lennon, to Ross Barkley in the D, he steps over the ball, Arouna Kone lays it off and Steven Pienaar's low shot is tame.

Everything but the final shot was superb.

Everton purring now. When that short, sharp passing style clicks they can carve teams asunder, and they do to Swansea, the ball whizzing through several pairs of feet before falling for Arouna Kone, who swivels to get a shot in but Lukasz Fabianski makes the save.

"You just felt Everton were forcing a few more corners, having more of the play, and Aaron Lennon had time to take a touch and volley the ball low into the ground and into the net."
