"Bafetimbi Gomis had an effort on goal and felt his hamstring. It's a shame because it was a great effort, with lots of power, but he's obviously just tweaked his hamstring. Hopefully it is just a tweak and not a tear, because that's normally only two weeks."

Over at Aintree, there's a horse race going on (as if you didn't know?) - it's only the Grand National. AP McCoy is making his last appearance at the world famous meeting, riding favourite Shutthefrontdoor. There is also a familiar name for football fans...

That's it for Bafetimbi Gomis - off he comes and on comes Marvin Emnes. Emnes leading the line now - a real test for him.

  4. Postpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 11 April 2015

Bafetimbi Gomis is in trouble here. He pulled a muscle having that cracking strike a minute ago and now he's sitting on the turf having treatment.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 12:59 British Summer Time 11 April 2015

Brilliant! Out of nothing, Swansea go close to a sensational opener. Bafetimbi Gomis turns 25 yards out and unleashes an instant effort, curling and dipping, flying into the top corner until Tim Howard somehow gets a touch on it.

The bad news for Swansea is that Gomis has pulled a muscle doing it. From the corner, Ashley Williams heads just wide. The game has come alive.

Wayne Routledge is made of stern stuff, that whack to the head would have put many a man out of action but he's back with us. That stoppage has not helped the flow of the game though, it's a bitty start from both sides.

"Swansea are trying to get the ball into Gylfi Sigurdsson and Everton into Ross Barkley. Both players are playing in that hole behind the striker and have got important roles to play today. They are the ones who can do the damage by working the space. Arouna Kone looks a very willing runner for Everton."

Arouna Kone is a man slowly rebuilding his career after a horrendous time of it with injuries. He's no Romelu Lukaku but he is a direct and pacey threat in behind- timing his run well again to beat the offside trap and sprint clear, but he can't get a cross in.

At the other end, Wayne Routledge takes a crack to the cheek as Phil Jagielka heads one away. Stop the game, that's a right shiner..

Swansea have started very sloppily so far. This game had the air of an end of season dead rubber about it and there is a danger we could drift along on the breeze. Garry Monk will not be happy with that of course and is out encouraging his players to lift it.

And that's better! Bafetimbi Gomis gets behind the Everton defence, steps on to his left foot and Leighton Baines is able to cover. I mentioned pre-game the sprinklers on the pitch and the replays show standing water kicking up off the turf.

"It's taken Bafetimbi Gomis a little bit of time to settle at Swansea but I've always liked him. I think he felt a bit overawed by Wilfried Bony at times but now he has that position for himself he can enjoy scoring goals, which he has been doing. Hopefully he can continue that.

"Everton have started well though, they look bright with Aaron Lennon down the wing."

Everton start at a smart pace, Ross Barkley pinging out a pass to Aaron Lennon and the Tottenham loanee wins a corner. Well claimed by Lukasz Fabianski though.

Where might Aaron Lennon be playing his football next season?

Everton all in black today as the sides line-up in the tunnel, captains Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka exchange a friendly greeting. All set?

Fifteen minutes or so away from our first top-flight action of the day. And what a day it is in Wales too, full sprinklers up on the pitch, sun beating down, fairly full house. Magic stuff.

We'd like a cracker please. If you joined me for late night action from Brighton last night you'll know that it was, well, boring to be honest.

None of that from the Swans or the Toffees now, alright?
