  1. Post update

A 3-0 Everton win was priced at 40-1 before kick-off. Congratulations if you invested in that.

That is all from Goodison Park for today, but things are getting controversial over at the Emirates.

Join Tom Rostance over the way to hear all about Arsenal v Chelsea.

    Bye for now.

  2. Post update

Manchester United need three wins from their last four games to be absolutely sure of Champions League football.

Given their superior goal difference, even eight should put them out of Liverpool's reach.

Their last four games are: West Brom (h), Crystal Palace (a), Arsenal (h) and Hull (a).

They should make it into the top four with some to spare for me.

  3. Post update

Louis van Gaal has admitted that his side missed a chance to snuff out fifth-placed Liverpool's Champions League hopes with a win today.

The gap between the two is seven points, although Liverpool have a game in hand.

The Independent's Ian Herbert on Twitter: "Van Gaal agrees that #mufc have given #lfc hope today. 'Yes, I know that. You give the light to your opponents. I said that [to them]'"

Liverpool meanwhile will wonder whether, had they beaten rather than drawn with West Brom yesterday, they could be looking a five-point gap with a game in hand.

  4. Post update

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

Wayne Rooney always looks slightly apologetic playing against Everton to me.

Still he did as much as anyone in the United attack.

He took four shots - two blocked, one on target, one off target - and laid on three key passes.

He also dropped back into midfield to help build the play. As you can see in the touch map below.

Still a bit of chat about whether Everton's third goal should have stood...

Tim: Fans can blame the referee as much as they like, but the decision was correct, the only argument is if the rules are what they should be.

Josh Jones: Very intelligent and great awareness from Lukaku, Mirallas reacted, the United defence didn't, simple as

KN: Valencia has been a willing stand-in but he's not a right-back. We need a RB, CB, a Carrick successor, and now a striker. Happy shopping LVG!

  6. Stones - Everton's rock

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    John Stones

A clean sheet, a first Everton goal, and there were other impressive stats from John Stones' day.

He won all eight of his 'duels', was accurate with an impressive 78% of his passes and racked up 54 touches - only Seamus Coleman had more for Everton.

    Nice work.

  7. Team News

    Arsenal v Chelsea (16:00 BST)

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger makes four changes to the side that beat Reading to reach the FA Cup final as he looks to end his 12-match winless streak against Chelsea's Jose Mourinho.

David Ospina, Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and top scorer Olivier Giroud all start for the second-placed Gunners, who have won their last eight Premier League games.

Jose Mourinho opts for two changes from last weekend's 1-0 win over Manchester United and in the absence of the injured Diego Costa and Loic Remy has not named a recognised striker.

    Arsenal mascot with fans

Willian and Ramires come in to what could be a pretty packed midfield as Chelsea look to take a step further towards wrapping up the title.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Alexis, Giroud. Subs: Szczesny, Debuchy, Gibbs, Wilshere, Walcott, Flamini, Welbeck

Chelsea XI: Courtois, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Azpilicueta, Matic, Fabregas, Ramires, Oscar, Willian, Hazard. Subs: Cech, Filipe Luis, Zouma, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek, Cuadrado, Drogba.

Everton midfielder Bryan Oviedo, recovering from a hamstring injury, has enjoyed that win.

  9. "Everton more motivated than us"

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    Louis van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: "We have always had more fighting spirit on the pitch and I think that this is the first match that the other team have shown more of that than us.

"We created five chances in the first half - Marouane Fellaini had to score - that is more than Everton. In the second half they scored on the counter and we had to play against a defensive side.

"This was the first match when I saw a team that was more motivated and aggressive than us. It is not good, but we are human beings.

"We have to see that our opponents will defend more and cope with that as a club. Everton deserved to win - when the result is fair, you can live with it."

  10. "Dynamic and clinical"

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    Roberto Martinex

Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "Manchester United are very good in how they work, their positional play and their work-rate. We were happy to let them have it in certain areas, but we showed a lot of dynamism and were clinical to change defence to attack,

"I think that the likes of Aaron Lennon, Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku carried so much threat.

"I thought we were well worth a three-goal lead and that speaks volumes.

"To keep the concentration for 90 minutes and keep a clean sheet was magnificent. It showed an incredible mentality and that is something that we have learned in a hard season.

"It has been a big demand to be in Europe and the domestic competitions and I think that there has been a mental fatigue from that.

"But I think that is a display that [former Everton chairman] Sir Philip Carter will have enjoyed looking down on."

Martinez's interview also included the nugget that "goals are always an important part of games."

  11. "We were second best"

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling: "It was very disappointing. I think that was the first time this season that we were off the pace from the first whistle. From the first moment to the last we were second best.

"I think we lacked aggression. That is what the manager emphasised to us after the game, that they seemed to want it more than us. Everton were very compact and we could not find the gaps and break them down. That is going to be the way that teams line up against us though after the run of results we have had."

  12. 'I've had pressure to score goals'

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    McCarthy and Stones

Everton defender John Stones, who scored his first goal Toffees goal today, tells Sky Sports: "It's been a long time waiting for my first goal. I've had pressure from players and staff to get goals.

"These are the big games you look forward to. I enjoyed myself today. We know we've been under par this season, the last 10 games or so we've shown we're getting back to ourselves."

  13. 'Everton were magnificent'

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    james McCarthy

Everton goal-scorer James McCarthy tells Sky Sports: "It's unusual I get into those positions to score goals

"It's been a frustrating campaign, now we want to finish the season on a high. We won't get too carried away. It's a big win.

"We knew Man United would come at us and we hurt them on the break a couple of times. We were magnificent all over the pitch."

  14. Post update

This result, coming after last weekend's 1-0 loss to Chelsea, is the first time that Manchester United have suffered successive defeats under Louis Van Gaal.

Not crisis time, but two results that underline the need for a 24-carat striker partner to help out Wayne Rooney.

  15. Post update

Everton meanwhile have poked their heads into the top half of the table, overtaking West Ham on goal difference to seize 10th spot.

  16. Post update

    Top of the table

Successive defeats, and Liverpool have a game in hand, but surely seven points is a comfy-enough cushion for Manchester United to ride to the Champions League in relative comfort.

David: Surely has to end the myth that United get favourable decisions. Marinner has been Everton's 12th player all match

Mr Clumbo: What on earth has happened to Falcao? Utterly unrecognisable from what he was

Paul Watt Riley: I'm wanting Everton win but third was offside. It was a pass to Lukaku and he ran towards the ball, not away from it.

Andy, Macclesfield: Linesmen cannot now flag offside until they know which player touches the ball. Shocking decision, clearly played to Lukaku

Paul and Andy are referring to Everton's third goal, which Kevin Mirallas scored, even though Romelu Lukaku was offside

  22. INJURY TIME

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

Three minutes to be added on. Manchester United stroking the ball about, but without any hope of getting back into it.

  23. SUBSTITUTION

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    Van Persie

Wayne Rooney also departs for Manchester United, with Robin van Persie on in his place. The Everton fans enjoyed sending the eternal Blue on his way.

And Rooney is clutching ice to his left knee as he sits on the bench. Worrying for United.

  24. SUBSTITUTION

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

Arouna Kone and Steven Naismith come on for Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley. A bit more solidity in midfield and a bit more time nibble off the clock by Roberto Martinez.

  25. GREAT SAVE!

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

Kevin Mirallas close to a fourth for Everton!

The Belgian skips in off the left wing, hurdling a couple of tired United challenges and unleashes a fizzing right-foot shot from 20 yards.

David De Gea goes full length, stretching up a hand to turn it over. Just routine for him right now, but pretty special nonetheless.

  26. Post update

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

A double change coming up for Everton. Arouna Kone and Steven Naismith are waiting.

  27. DISALLOWED GOAL FOR UNITED

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    Falcao

That was a neat finish from Radamel Falcao. It might help his case for permanent deal, but it won't help the scoreline.

The Colombian was offside as Daley Blind's block tackle in midfield rolled into his path. Still, he went round Tim Howard and slotted from a tight angle before realising the call had gone against him.

  28. Post update

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

United's Ander Herrera swipes at a shot from 20 yards, it catches a slight deflection off Seamus Coleman and is behind for a corner.

Sir Philip Carter died this week at the age of 87.

  30. Post update

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

That is surely Manchester United's goose cooked.

Everton have been flogging season ticket hard all afternoon and the team have done the sales department a massive favour on the pitch. The Toffees have been very slick going forward.

  31. Post update

    Everton 3-0 Man Utd

    Alan Irvine

Former Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"Certainly Lukaku was offside but didn't get involved. It's difficult for defenders, but they know the rules and it is important they continue to play until the whistle. But Mirallas still had a bit to do and he finished well."

  32. GOAL

Everton 3-0 Man Utd - Kevin Mirallas

    Mirallas
    Mirallas

This is going to provide plenty of post-match fodder for the rules geeks.

Ross Barkley' loft forward is clearly aimed at the clearly offside Romelu Lukaku. The United defence slow to a stroll expecting a whistle.

But Kevin Mirallas - bombing on from an onside position - doesn't hesitate. He sweeps in ahead of Lukaku, races in on goal and fires a low finish past David De Gea.

Andre Marriner is happy to let it stand.

Kyle, Bristol: Carrick is as important to United as Matic is to Chelsea. Without them, the team looks unbalanced and fragile

David Broome: United's form has regressed by the minute in this second half - need signings. Right-back and striker with pace for starters

  34. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

Nearly very clever from Radamel Falcao.

The Manchester United ghosts into space between the two Everton centre-halves and is picked out by a long ball forward from Angel Di Maria.

The Colombian flicks a first-time header goalwards as Tim Howard comes off his line, but the American retreats in time to jump and claim it.

  35. SUBSTITUTION

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

Leon Osman makes way for Kevin Mirallas for Everton.

That looks like a pretty much straight swap on the left wing, bringing on some fresh legs.

  36. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

    Alan Irvine

Former Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 live

    Falcao

"Louis van Gaal has brought on Angel di Maria for Juan Mata and obviously feels he has to try something else. Bringing Falcao on for Marouane Fellaini at half-time has not worked. There's not a lot of space in behind Everton, and Fellaini's height could have been something United could have used."

  37. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

Angel Di Maria has time to deliver some quality from the right wing, but instead dumps a tame, looping cross into the gloves of Tim Howard.

The former Real Madrid man look like he is staying out on that flank with Ander Herrera staying central and getting advanced.

  38. YELLOW CARD

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

Aaron Lennon was away there and off to set up another dangerous counter, if Luke Shaw had not been water-skiing off the back of him, clinging on to a fistful of shirt.

A deserved yellow for a cynical foul.

  39. SUBSTITUTION

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

United have come off the boil in the last five minutes. Louis van Gaal has decided to inject Angel Di Maria into the action. A peeved Juan Mata makes way.

Di Maria will presumably take up a role behind Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao who have been playing as a pretty conventional front two for the visitors.

  40. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

    Valencia

Some top gesturing from a pair of young Everton fans behind Antonio Valencia as he takes a throw-in, both of them giving the United full-back an emphatic and repeated thumbs down.

    The innocence of youth.

  41. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

    Lukaku

A lovely lollipop stepover from Romelu Lukaku takes him flying past Antonio Valencia down the United right.

He sends a low cross whizzing into the centre, but there is no-one there to meet it.

When you are the lone striker and as quick as Lukaku, that is going to happen. Aaron Lennon was closest to getting there for Everton.

  42. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

Manchester United turn the Everton defence as Luke Shaw loops round to provide the extra man down the left and Ashley Young slips him in.

Shaw has options from the byeline, but his pull-back for Juan Mata is cut out by James McCarthy.

  43. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

Quick turnover ball for Everton in midfield and Ross Barkley has his head up like a meerkat.

He has spotted Romelu Lukaku's run and his ball is perfect. The Belgian's first touch is poor though.

If he had got that out of his feet, he might well have been through on goal.

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

    Alan Irvine

Former Everton wingeron BBC Radio 5 live

"I was surprised Marouane Fellaini was taken off at half-time. I can only assume Louis van Gaal was worried about the yellow card and probably wanted to get Wayne Rooney just off the front, which is where he is now."

  46. Ouch!

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

Luke Shaw does very well to cover the ground and rob Ross Barkley as Everton again pounce on the counter. The United full-back got a knee in the head as he slid in though and needs a bit of treatment.

A quick application of the magic sponge and he is cured.

  47. CLOSE!

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

    Rooney

Close! Chris Smalling wins another header in attack, nodding the ball on to Wayne Rooney at the far post.

The ball is a little behind the United striker, but he controls on his chest, spins and hits in a twinkle. Tim Howard has moved similarly quickly and is out to block the shot.

Here is the switch. And Louis van Gaal has decided he is not witing to find out if Marouane Fellaini's yellow card is going to turn to red in the second half.

The Belgian has been hooked with Radamel Falcao on in his place to pep up United's attack.

  52. Post update

I hope, I think I know - an album track from Oasis's bloated third album Be Here Now -blares out at half-time at Goodison.

That is a leftfield call from the DJ. But it sounds better than I remember. Maybe it is the Marouane Fellaini of albums?

  53. 'Di Maria looks unhappy'

Everton v Man Utd (13:30 BST)

    John Hartson

Former Arsenal striker BBC Radio 5 live

"I think Angel Di Maria may leave this summer in a swap deal for one of Real Madrid's players. He doesn't look happy. I'm not too sure he will stay."

The Argentine midfielder is among the Manchester United substitutes again today. If United kept their receipt he might still be under guarantee. If not, who might they take in exchange? Isco? Asier Illarramendi?

  54. Post update

Radamel Falcao has the look of man on a promise of some second-half action.

The Colombian has stayed out on the pitch and is going through an energetic warm-up. There is some additional strapping and bootlace tying going on as well.

  55. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

    Alan Irvine

Former Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"Up until the second goal Man United were the better team and created good chances. Since that second goal though Everton have been comfortable and Man United have looked deflated and couldn't build anything. There's a lot for Louis van Gaal to think about at half-time. I think he will make changes quickly in the second half if they don't make a good start."

    Fellaini

A Manchester United corner into a crowded Everton penalty box and the ball drops for Marouane Fellaini to hit it 10 yards out.

  61. Post update

  64. Post update

    Everton 2-0 Man Utd

There were plenty of games earlier this season when Manchester United played poorly but got a result.

    Alan Irvine

Former Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"It's a fantastic header. John Stones is a talented player with a great mentality. Things are looking good for him in the future."

  66. GOAL

Everton 2-0 Man Utd - John Stones

    Stones

    Nothing complex about that one.

The corner is whipped into the near post and John Stones rises high and contorts his neck to bullet a header towards the far post.

David De Gea is beaten by the accuracy of the header and the power of it does for Ashley Young stationed on the line.

  67. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

    Lukaku

Everton are looking sharp as razors on the counter.

Again Seamus Coleman's pace down the right is the outlet, but the full back can't quite pick out Romelu Lukaku in the middle.

  68. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

Ashley Young jags in off the left flank and lets fly with his right peg. That is straight at Gareth Barry though and the Everton man puts his head in front of the ball to clear.

  69. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

Got to love a chested lay-off.

Straight into the bread basket for David De Gea though.

  72. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

Everton have had only 33% of possession so far, but they finally get a bit of ball.

Chris Smalling has developed into a serious attacking aerial threat this season.

He gets up well again to meet Juan Mata's free-kick. There is plenty of power in his header but it is straight at Tim Howard.

Luke Shaw looks like he might have picked up a groin strain by the way.

  76. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

Everton's Tim Howard is out bravely to dive at the feet of Wayne Rooney close to the byeline.

The American might have sprained one of his fingers in doing so. That seems to be what he is gesturing to the bench anyway.

  77. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

    Mata

Manchester United are connecting the dots in attack, slicing through the Everton defence as Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata set up Daley Blind on the edge of the box.

His shot is a trundler though and Tim Howard is practically lying in wait for it after diving to his left.

  78. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

Romelu Lukaku takes the resulting free-kick, striding towards it like Roberto Carlos from 40 yards. His effort is not in the Brazilian's league, but his daisycutter is controlled by Leon Osman who swivels and snaps a shot at goal.

He doesn't connect cleanly though and David De Gea scoops it up with ease.

  79. YELLOW CARD

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

    Fellaini

Agricultural from Marouane Fellaini as he hacks Seamus Coleman's standing leg from under him and, a minute later, the Manchester United man shoulders Ross Barkley to the floor.

    Alan Irvine

Former Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"It's a fantastic start for Everton. It's the first time they have been able to get into the final third. It's a great counter attack, a lovely bit of play by James McCarthy and a good finish."

  81. Post update

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

It has been a breathless opening. Manchester United building well as they press for an immediate reply, Everton looking dangerous on the counter though with United open to the sucker punch.

  82. WHAT A MISS!

    Everton 1-0 Man Utd

Marouane Fellaini barges an Everton defender off the ball and has a clear sight of goal from 20 yards. Either side of Tim Howard he is scoring the equaliser, but he hammers high over the top to jeers from the home fans.

  83. GOAL

Everton 1-0 Man Utd - James McCarthy

    McCarthy
    McCarthy

The classic counter-attack as Everton sweep from one and to the other and they didn't encounter much resistance to be honest.

Antonio Valencia loses out on a header after Gareth Barry cleared Juan Mata's delivery into the Everton box and it is suddenly three on three.

James McCarthy barges between half-hearted challenges from Paddy McNair and Daley Blind and pokes under David De Gea.

There has been some chat in midweek from Luke Shaw saying that he hopes to build on his solid performance in the defeat to Chelsea after a slow start to life at United.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez speaking to Sky Sports: "It's important we have everyone fit. It's great to have Romelu Lukaku back, challenging for his position. Leon Osman brings us a different approach - it's a tactical change. He knows how to play at Goodison, his know-how is important.

"The game is as big a test as we could get. Manchester United have slowly found a winning formula. We faced them early in the season and you can see the turnaround in fortunes, and it's good to see where we are and how we can finish the season."

Adam, London: If you look at the stats Coutinho is no more than average. Four goals and four assists? Chadli has 10 goals and five assists but he's not up there.

Times football writer Alyson Rudd on the transformation of Marouane Fellaini: "It looked like the worst transfer ever. It became the symbol of what had gone wrong at United.

"The talents he did have were almost overlooked on purpose. I think it's one of the great stories of the past couple of seasons that he has been able to cope with that.

    Everton's Steven Naismith

Forward Steven Naismith has, as usual, given four Everton fans tickets for today's meeting with Manchester United and the Scotland international and all-round good guy has today spoken passionately about the danger of pricing ordinary supporters out of the game.

"They can't just keep increasing ticket prices because more and more fans just can't afford to go to the games," the 28-year-old told the Sunday newspapers. "Before we know it, clubs will be playing in front of half-empty stadiums, so it is now becoming an issue that has to be addressed.

"Clubs are going to benefit massively from the new TV deal, so surely the game has got to take a step back and realise that football is a working man's sport. We have got to look at different ways of pricing tickets and distributing them."

  111. 'Villa much better under Sherwood'

    Man City 3-2 Aston Villa

    Former England captain Alan Shearer

    Match of the Day

"Villa are a totally different proposition under Tim Sherwood. He's got them playing better football. They're more direct. They get the ball into Christian Benteke quicker and are creating more chances. They're a much better team.

"I thought Villa were the better side against City. They had more possession and more shots on target. But silly mistakes cost them."

  112. 'Hart should have been off'

    Man City 3-2 Aston Villa

    Former England defender Martin Keown

    Match of the Day

"Tim Sherwood is right to have a complaint against the decision to give offside against Christian Benteke.

"There's absolutely no way he is offside when Charles N'Zogbia plays him through. At 2-2, it was a chance to put Villa ahead. Joe Hart would have been sent off for bringing him down, and there's no way I could have seen Manchester City getting back into the game.

"Joe Hart just takes Benteke out. The linesman's got that wrong."

  113. Late show

    Man City 3-2 Aston Villa

    Fernandinho scores for Man City

It took a late winner and a beneficial call from the officials, but Manchester City have - for now anyway - moved back into second place in the Premier League after this nervy 3-2 win.

Fernandinho's 89th-minute winner earned the three points after City spurned a two-goal lead. But relegation-threatened Villa were left to bemoan an apparently incorrect offside decision with the score at 2-2, Christian Benteke being flagged after goalkeeper Joe Hart fouled him in the act of shooting.

Not that Tim Sherwood thinks his Villa side are in danger of the drop...

"I went for Eden Hazard. He has been a major factor in Chelsea's position this season. He has performed in big games - some players don't do it in big games, but he's shown he is a big-game player.

"I went for Harry Kane as young player. He's been first-class, has seized his opportunity and has an affinity with Tottenham. I think a few players will split their votes between Hazard and Kane across the senior and young player categories."

    Conor McNamara

    BBC commentator

I'm at Goodison today for "The Man Who Replaced Moyes" v "The Man Who Replaced Moyes". Highlights later on @BBCMOTD.

Roberto Martinez and Louis van Gaal
  120. 'Pulis a survival master'

    West Brom 0-0 Liverpool

    Former England defender Martin Keown

    Match of the Day

"West Brom had dipped a little bit, but Tony Pulis has turned it round again. Every year, he seems to be able to do it. He's the master of getting out of trouble."

  121. 'Liverpool let down by recruitment'

    West Brom 0-0 Liverpool

    Former England captain Alan Shearer

    Match of the Day

"I think Liverpool have been let down by their recruitment this year. They had the money from selling Luis Suarez, and the majority of signings haven't worked out for them.

"Liverpool missed a trick last year, because they had the Champions League to offer last summer. They're unlikely to be in it this time, so top players will be reluctant to go to Anfield."

  122. Fizzling out

    West Brom 0-0 Liverpool

    West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill

This game was the very definition of drab, as Liverpool's season splutters towards a disappointing conclusion.

Having lost to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-finals last weekend, Brendan Rodgers side now look like missing out on a Champions League place, with this goalless draw with West Brom meaning they are now seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

  123. 'It's not working for Defoe'

    Stoke 1-1 Sunderland

    Former England defender Martin Keown

    Match of the Day

"Sunderland had great opportunities to win this game, and they didn't take them.

"It's just not working for Jermain Defoe at the moment. A couple of times, he had sights of goal, and just didn't wrap his foot around the ball. Maybe he's not quite fit enough."

  124. A proper Charlie

    Stoke 1-1 Sunderland

    Charlie Adam

Another game, another stunning Charlie Adam goal for Stoke and another draw for Sunderland.

No team in the Premier League has drawn more games than the Black Cats this term but, in the circumstances, this away point lost a little of its sheen.

Leicester and Hull both winning meant Dick Advocaat's slide slipped into the bottom three, despite Connor Wickham giving them the lead after just 59 seconds.

  125. 'Adrian a different class'

    QPR 0-0 West Ham

    Former England defender Martin Keown

    Match of the Day

"I'm sure Charlie Austin is kicking himself over his penalty miss. He is brave enough to take it and he's going for power, but he blasts it down the middle. It's a poor penalty. But Adrian is a different class at saving penalties. I think it's three he's stopped this season.

"The save he made from Matt Phillips in the second half was world class. It's not a Hollywood save. The speed with which he got across the goal was incredible."

  126. On the spot

    QPR 0-0 West Ham

    Charlie Austin

Had it not been for Charlie Austin's 17 goals this term, the chances are QPR would already have been relegated. But that will do little to console the Loftus Road fans after the striker's penalty miss cost them victory over West Ham on Saturday.

Austin's first-half spot-kick, awarded after a handball from James Collins, was saved by Hammers goalkeeper Adrian. QPR still earned a point, but results elsewhere mean they are now four from safety having played a game more than three of their relegation rivals.

    Team of the year

    Aaron Cresswell

Who should definitely be in the PFA team of the year? Tell us why.

Joe: Aaron Cresswell, been superb in his first season in the Premier League and best player for West Ham too

Anybody'sOpinion: Some of the bias of these teams are laughable. Coquelin over Matic? Sterling over Alexis? Fine line between loyalty & delusion

John Maynard, Liverpool: My team of the year would be. Forster. Ivanovic. Terry. Fonte. Bertrand. Matic. Sterling. Hazard. Sanchez. Kane. Austin. Subs: Coutinho. Downing. Skrtel. Giroud. Lloris. Aguero. Forster won't get it as he isn't England's number one or at a trendy club. Southampton's defence and keeper have been the best in the league all season. Austin getting that many goals has been incredible considering where he was five years ago.

  128. 'Sigurdsson one of the best'

    Newcastle 2-3 Swansea

    Former England defender Martin Keown

    Match of the Day

"Gylfi Sigurdsson is, for me, one of the best players in the division. He does so much for Swansea. He's such a quality player, with eight goals and 10 assists this season. He's a very quick-footed, intelligent player. I can't believe Tottenham let him go."

  129. 'Newcastle in a mess'

    Newcastle 2-3 Swansea

    Former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer

    Match of the Day

"I feel a bit sorry for John Carver, because he's from the area, he loves the football club; it's just a shame some of his players don't love the football club as much as he does. They're in a mess. They're in trouble.

"I think 35 points might be enough to stay up. I'm looking at Newcastle, and I don't think they're safe yet. Their goal difference is not great either. Newcastle will need another point, and then I think they'll be all right, but I don't know where that's going to come from."

  130. Fog clears on the Tyne

    Newcastle 2-3 Swansea

    Jack Cork scores for Swansea

For what seems like months, Newcastle have been cluttering up the middle of the table with no concern about what's happening above and below them. Suddenly, though, they're looking over their shoulder.

After Swansea condemned them to a seventh straight defeat, John Carver's side are just five points clear of the relegation zone having played a game more than three of the teams below them.

  131. Prize guys

    So about these PFA awards...

Tottenham's Harry Kane is one of four players to make the shortlist for both the player and young player of the year prizes, alongside Manchester United keeper David De Gea, Chelsea forward Eden Hazard and Liverpool attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez and Chelsea's Diego Costa complete the senior list, while Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois and Raheem Sterling of Liverpool are the two other young player contenders.

Here's some key stats on the men in the mix...

  132. 'Disallowed Palace goal a soft decision'

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Hull

    Former England captain Alan Shearer

    Match of the Day

"I thought the disallowing of Yaya Sanogo's goal was a pretty soft decision in the end. He's just got a hold of Paul McShane's arm, and there's a little tug. But I think McShane was clever, because he got underneath the ball and he knows he's going to get beaten, so he goes down.

"It was soft, and Alan Pardew was pretty angry about it. But he can have no complaints about the result. Hull were much the better team and deserved the three points."

  133. 'N'Doye was sensational'

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Hull

    Former England defender Martin Keown

    Match of the Day

"Dame N'Doye came in during the January transfer window, and was sensational against Palace. He still had the energy right at the end to get the second goal. It was a great finish, and it was very timely after a run of six games without a win before today."

  134. Holding their nerve

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Hull

    Dame N'Doye scores for Hull

Given they still have to play four of the top six, how crucial could this victory prove for Hull?

Dame N'Doye's second-half brace earned the three points that keeps Steve Bruce's side a point above the relegation zone with five games remaining.

For Palace, it was a second straight home defeat.

  135. Post update

    Andros Townsend

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has been busy at the London Marathon this morning. Don't worry Spurs fans, he wasn't taking part, but was instead sounding the hooter for the Mini Marathon.

  136. 'Why did Taylor take penalty?'

    Burnley 0-1 Leicester

    Former England captain Alan Shearer

    Match of the Day

"Burnley have failed to score in 16 games out of 34 this season, which tells you the story. They've scored one in their last eight matches, and it was a similar problem against Leicester."

"What I found strange was that Matty Taylor took the penalty - and he hasn't taken one for five years. Burnley have had three penalties this year. Scott Arfield missed one. Danny Ings took a penalty and scored.

"Ings hasn't scored in nine games, and maybe he didn't fancy it because of confidence. But I would have thought: 'Get the penalty, put it on the spot, score it and you might get a few more goals during the remainder of the season.' That sums Burnley up."

  137. 'They don't know when they're beaten'

    Burnley 0-1 Leicester

    Former England defender Martin Keown

    Match of the Day

"What Leicester have done is absolutely incredible. Normally, when you hit the bottom, you're dispirited, and you're going nowhere but down.

"They were marooned at the bottom for 141 days and they've come back with spirit. There's so much energy about this Leicester team. They just don't know when they're beaten."

  138. Narrow margins

    Burnley 0-1 Leicester

    Jamie Vardy scores for Leicester

Remember in February when Nigel Pearson's jacket appeared to be on a shoogly peg? And the start of this month when his Leicester side were seven points from safety?

Well, four consecutive wins have made all that seem a long time ago.

This was perhaps the most dramatic of the quartet, though, Jamie Vardy scrambling in the winner to lift Leicester out of the bottom three just 59 seconds after Burnley's Matty Taylor missed a penalty.

    Former Southampton striker Alan Shearer

    Match of the Day

"Southampton got a great deal with Ronald Koeman coming in. His recruitment was absolutely first class. Given the players Southampton had to sell, and looking at the players they got in, I think he has done a magnificent job.

"I like Graziano Pelle. He knows where he wants to run, and he puts the ball into the spaces for Sadio Mane - but he doesn't just admire what he's done. He's clever and he's cute and I like his movement.

"He did go 14 games without a goal, but he's got three in the last three games. A total of 11 goals is not a bad return."

    Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

    Southampton 2-2 Spurs

Tottenham drained a little of the fun from "Ronald Koeman Day" in the early game at St Mary's by twice coming from behind to earn a point.

Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli both cancelled out Graziano Pelle goals as former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino returned for the first time since his acrimonious departure to Spurs last summer.

The result means Pochettino's new side stay sixth, a point ahead of Saints and level with fifth-placed Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

  142. How they stand

    table

Before today's action, let's reflect on what happened yesterday in the Premier League.

The eight games didn't alter the upper echelons of the league table too much, the only real change being that Manchester City moved back above Manchester United and Arsenal after their nervy win over Aston Villa.

More noteworthy would be if Chelsea won at Arsenal today, given that doing so would give them at least an 11-point cushion with five games remaining.

At the bottom, Leicester were the decisive movers, edging out of the relegation places at the expense of Sunderland after their 1-0 triumph at Burnley.

  143. Scottish Premiership

    capture

As well as the two Premier League games, there's also action in the Scottish Premiership on this beautiful Sunday as Dundee United take on Celtic for what feels like the 57th time this season. If I appear distracted later on, that'll be why...

    Rodgers hunting for firepower

    Express

AP McCoy and Eden Hazard reappear again on the Sunday Express back page. But there's also room for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers to claim he needs another couple of strikers at Anfield.

    Ronaldo + £200m = Hazard

    Mail

Similar theme, but a different slant on the Eden Hazard story from the Mail on Sunday. Not only will Real Madrid have to pay £200m for the Belgian, but they'll need to chuck in Cristiano Ronaldo too. Bargain...

£100m for each leg (the rest is free)

    Star

The Sunday Star lead on Jose Mourinho's assertion that Chelsea forward Eden Hazard will cost Real Madrid £200m, should Spanish side want to lure the Belgian to the Bernabeu.

  149. Today's back pages

    Eddie Howe a Hammer?

    Telegraph

There is a running theme on today's back pages, with the celebrated career of jockey AP McCoy taking centre stage. But that doesn't mean there isn't a bit of room for some football tittle tattle.

The Sunday Telegraph are saying Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is a candidate to replace Sam Allardyce at West Ham; although it must be pointed out that Big Sam is still in employment at Upton Park. At least until his contract expires in the summer, anyway.

  153. 'Show us yer medals'

    Medal collection

Medals and trophies are the footballer's currency of choice. Never mind that folding stuff that they throw about with reckless abandon in nightclubs and car showrooms, shiny baubles are what really count when their playing days are over and they are regaling anyone who will listen with their tales of derring-do.

Tonight several of the Premier League's leading performers have the chance to burnish their collections when the winners of the PFA Awards are announced. But who will win the main prizes? And will anyone disgrace themselves?
