A lovely lollipop stepover from Romelu Lukaku takes him flying past Antonio Valencia down the United right.

He sends a low cross whizzing into the centre, but there is no-one there to meet it.

When you are the lone striker and as quick as Lukaku, that is going to happen. Aaron Lennon was closest to getting there for Everton.

Manchester United turn the Everton defence as Luke Shaw loops round to provide the extra man down the left and Ashley Young slips him in.

Shaw has options from the byeline, but his pull-back for Juan Mata is cut out by James McCarthy.

Quick turnover ball for Everton in midfield and Ross Barkley has his head up like a meerkat.

He has spotted Romelu Lukaku's run and his ball is perfect. The Belgian's first touch is poor though.

If he had got that out of his feet, he might well have been through on goal.

"I was surprised Marouane Fellaini was taken off at half-time. I can only assume Louis van Gaal was worried about the yellow card and probably wanted to get Wayne Rooney just off the front, which is where he is now."

Luke Shaw does very well to cover the ground and rob Ross Barkley as Everton again pounce on the counter. The United full-back got a knee in the head as he slid in though and needs a bit of treatment.

A quick application of the magic sponge and he is cured.

  7. CLOSE!published at 14:34 British Summer Time 26 April 2015

Close! Chris Smalling wins another header in attack, nodding the ball on to Wayne Rooney at the far post.

The ball is a little behind the United striker, but he controls on his chest, spins and hits in a twinkle. Tim Howard has moved similarly quickly and is out to block the shot.

Matt Holford: United just aren't the same team without Carrick. God help them finding a replacement when he retires.

Narman Oloo: Playing Rooney upfront alone is like playing with 10 men. He has been anonymous

Sushant Shetty: One game we lose and all the so called United plastic fans are out with their knives. This team has achieved its target so chill

Yahya Elahie: This shows how important Carrick is to Man Utd. Blind just isn't as good, doesn't bring the best out of Fellaini - Carrick does.

Here is the switch. And Louis van Gaal has decided he is not witing to find out if Marouane Fellaini's yellow card is going to turn to red in the second half.

The Belgian has been hooked with Radamel Falcao on in his place to pep up United's attack.

I hope, I think I know - an album track from Oasis's bloated third album Be Here Now -blares out at half-time at Goodison.

That is a leftfield call from the DJ. But it sounds better than I remember. Maybe it is the Marouane Fellaini of albums?

  13. 'Di Maria looks unhappy'published at 14:27 British Summer Time 26 April 2015

    John Hartson
Former Arsenal striker BBC Radio 5 live

"I think Angel Di Maria may leave this summer in a swap deal for one of Real Madrid's players. He doesn't look happy. I'm not too sure he will stay."

The Argentine midfielder is among the Manchester United substitutes again today. If United kept their receipt he might still be under guarantee. If not, who might they take in exchange? Isco? Asier Illarramendi?

Here we go then - we set you a teaser before kick-off asking which four men to have scored a hat-trick against Manchester United in the Premier League.

    The treble-getting quartet are:

Romelu Lukaku for West Brom in a 5-5 draw in 2013.

Samuel Eto'o for Chelsea in a 3-1 win in 2014.

Dirk Kuyt for Liverpool in a 3-1 win in 2011.

David Bentley for Blackburn in 4-3 win in 2006.

Radamel Falcao has the look of man on a promise of some second-half action.

The Colombian has stayed out on the pitch and is going through an energetic warm-up. There is some additional strapping and bootlace tying going on as well.

Former Everton winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"Up until the second goal Man United were the better team and created good chances. Since that second goal though Everton have been comfortable and Man United have looked deflated and couldn't build anything. There's a lot for Louis van Gaal to think about at half-time. I think he will make changes quickly in the second half if they don't make a good start."

You know how prickly Louis van Gaal got post-match after Chelsea rope-a-doped them last time out?

Conor McNamara - on MOTD duty at Goodison today - better brace himself if it stays the same.

Louis Porter: Is it just me or as soon as a young player scores, he is suddenly going to be the next best player in the world. Every time!

Sam Robson: LVG's insistence on playing Fellaini will continue to be Utd's Achilles heel. So unbelievably damaging to the team's dynamic

Isaac, Manchester: United's defending has been horrendous. Definitely need a new right-back. Valencia is just too inconsistent.

Jamie Mills O'Brien: You have to mention that we NEVER score from corners.

    Consider it mentioned, Jamie.
