"If Real Madrid score first, I wonder if Atletico can change their style of play."

  3. CLOSE!published at 20:00 British Summer Time 22 April 2015

Real beginning to edge up through the danger zones. Cristiano Ronaldo picks it up 25 yards out, he escapes his markers for the first time and has the chance of a snapshot but he drags it wide with his left foot.

Shane Daly: Ramos will get 2 goals tonight, both headers from set-pieces. Wanna take my bet BBC Sport?

    Nope. But it's well noted.

  5. CLOSE!published at 19:59 British Summer Time 22 April 2015

First real chance of the night. James Rodriguez drifts out to the right and picks out Javier Hernandez bursting inbetween the lines. The Mexican has good pace and power but he's too wide for a shot, he should be looking to pick out a team-mate and he instead slams a shot into the side-netting. A touch greedy there.

"Arda Turan is man-marking Cristiano Ronaldo, he keeps having a little nibble and is probably one more foul away from a booking."

  7. Postpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 22 April 2015

Tremendous passion from Diego Simeone. He's almost on the pitch to bark orders at his team as Cristiano Ronaldo gets a shot away from 30+ yards - it's well blocked though by Tiago. Atletico Madrid are so well organised. They don't give you an inch.

Arda Turan goes through the back of Cristiano Ronaldo and he's lucky not to be booked.

"There's more edge about the place tonight, because one mistake could settle the tie now. The Atletico team are so well drilled, it's almost perfection."

"My taxi driver was pleased that Javier Hernandez was starting for Real Madrid tonight, ahead of Karim Benzema. That surprised me a little. He'd love to leave a hero and head back to Manchester United by scoring the goal which knocks out Atletico here."

Real Madrid having three times as much of the ball as their neighbours in these early stages. It's the Atleti pattern which has suited them well in the past 18 months or so.

RG: I worked in an Irish pub in Monaco for 6 months. Rock n roll band every night, you could drink as long as it wasn't more than the customers, French TV played all the PL and CL games and the tips were great. Oh and you didn't start work until 4pm. There was a dart board and free Italian food from the 5 star restaurant next door but we were too busy 'working' to take advantage.

Gareth Bale had the best chance of the first leg but couldn't beat the impressive Atleti keeper Jan Oblak. If you are just tuning in, Bale is injured tonight along with his former Spurs team-mate Luka Modric.

"Every outfield player is camped in the Atletico half, but they won't be fazed. They've only conceded one goal in their last eight Champions League games. It started like this in the first leg."

Sergio Ramos likes a spot of theatrics and he's the first to go to ground holding his face after a flick out from Saul. A mere brush of the chin but there'll be plenty of that.

Isco gives the ball away cheaply but Atletico Madrid have very much set their stall out, they don't attempt to counter in these very early stages. See it out for a spell of time - up to the boss I guess - and then look for a potentially lethal away goal later on. All 20 outfield players compacted into the one half.

"Real want to play a nice, high tempo. Atletico will try and break it up with niggly fouls. They combine both elements really - they do have skilful players but they can also dig in."

Real keep the ball for a solid 100 seconds from kick-off but the spell ends with Toni Kroos skying a shot well wide and over from 30 yards. Cristiano Ronaldo instantly gets on to the ballboys to play on quickly. High tempo clearly on Real's radar tonight.

"I thought Real Madrid might have gone 4-4-2 to match up to Atletico but they haven't, they've stuck with their favoured 4-3-3."
