Nervy start at Newcastle as you'd expect. John Carver trying to look like the best coach in the league as he glugs a good portion of a bottle of water very early doors. He may need something stronger by this evening.

Bright start for Leicester, who are bang in form, as Roberth Huth stretches to flick a corner over the top.

  3. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

West Ham have not won on the road in their last 10 away trips. Some bad value for money for supporters there. They've started on the front foot at Villa Park though.

Not a spare seat to be had at the KC Stadium this afternoon. Both sides in the bottom three at the start of play. Burnley will be down today unless they win - and even that may not be enough.

A massive, massive, massive game for both sides. Sean Dyche and Steve Bruce embrace. They'll share a bottle or two tonight either way, I'm sure.

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat to BBC Sport: "It was good we won, it was not our best game but it was effective. It could be very important.

"It was not our best performance but we can improve. It is all about results. I changed something at half time because I was not happy about some performances.

"Everton were the better side but it is all about winning, give 100 percent and show the fans what they want and that is what we did.

"Last three games we have seven points, we are desperate to get three points. They gave everything, they all want to stay up and the fans were great. They give the players something extra."

The teams emerge at St James' Park, which looks reasonably full. The fans know this is a huge, huge game for Newcastle.

  11. 'We have put the pressure on'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon: "We win together, we lose together. That is the most important thing. We did our job and for the next game is the most important thing. We showed our energy, we looked like a proper team."

Sunderland striker Danny Graham: "It has been a long time, a frustrating couple of years at the football club. We have to see how results go, we have put the pressure on everyone else. We need top focus on next week's game. The momentum is there and we need to build on it."

Hull have already got four more points this season than their final total from the campaign they were relegated from the Premier League (30 in 2009-10).

  13. Another unwanted streakpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

    NewcastleImage source, .

Newcastle have lost eight Premier League matches in a row and only once before have they had a streak of at least nine defeats in the top flight (10 from August to October 1977). They went on to be relegated that season.

Newcastle already have the longest losing streak in the Premier League this season (8). Aston Villa lost seven matches between January - February 2015, their streak ended with a 2-1 home victory against West Brom.

    Burnley

Burnley have not scored a Premier League goal in nine hours and 29 minutes.

Only three teams have gone on a longer run without a goal than Burnley's current six-game streak; Ipswich (7 games in 1994-95), Derby (7 games in 2007-08) and C. Palace (9 games in 1994-95).

    Bleak stuff.

Did you know West Ham have played 37 times against Aston Villa in the Premier League without ever earning a red card, the most games by a team who has not picked up a dismissal against a certain opponent. Bound to change now, isn't it?

Ross may not agree but I do have some encouraging news for Aston Villa fans. They have exactly the same record this season as they had at this stage last term.

    Is that encouraging? Or depressing?

Ross, Kent: I wouldn't be surprised if West Ham beat Villa today, Tim Sherwood had a bad record vs them last season as Spurs manager.

Today may not be the day for a large pair of cuddly tiger mascots. The good people of Hull and Burnley give the duo short shrift as they go through the motions.

This is a relegation dogfight, not EuroDisney...

ScarletVarlet: Losing Pardew was the greatest Newcastle error of the season. Circling the drain while Palace prosper. Careful what you wish for.

Ian McCormack: All the focus on a very out of form Newcastle team - watch them win by at least four today against WBA.

Peter Collins: I've said for a while that Sunderland might mark relegation. Finish below them, you're gone. Finish above, you're safe.
