Everton are playing some lovely stuff. James McCarthy and Kevin Mirallas play a neat triangle with Romelu Lukakau, but the latter puts his shot into the stand behind the goal.

  3. CLOSE!published at 14:17 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

James McCarthy is doing everything to try and drag Everton back into this. The Ireland international midfielder drives into the box, getting lucky with a couple of breaks, but he's falling over when he takes his shot and he scoops it over the bar.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Give up now, Everton. It's not your day. James McCarthy almost takes the wind out of the ball he strikes it that hard, but some late swerve sees it strike the bottom of the post and bounce to safety. Bad luck for Everton. Have they run over a black cat?!

    Aston Villa

Gabby Agbonlahor is fit after almost a month out with a hamstring injury, but is only on the bench as manager Tim Sherwood names the same Aston Villa starting line-up who beat Everton last Saturday.

James Collins has passed a fitness test on a back problem, and so retains his place at centre-back alongside 18-year-old Reece Burke in a West Ham side who are also unchanged.

Aston Villa XI: Given; Bacuna, Vlaar, Okore, Richardson; Cleverley, Westwood, Delph; N'Zogbia, Grealish; Benteke.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes makes two changes to the side that lost 2-0 at Swansea on 2 May, with defenders Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa coming in for Phil Bardsley and Marc Wilson, who is suspended. Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch is on the substitutes bench.

Spurs make one change to the side that lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City on 3 May, full-back Danny Rose replaced by Vlad Chiricheș. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says Rose has a slight groin problem although he is named on the bench.

Seamus Coleman takes a pop from range, Wes Brown just dives forward and the ball rebounds off his head. Or, he might call it a headed clearance.

    David Pleat
Ex-Tottenham manager, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Ipswich played with tremendous fire in the second half but the match was short of quality. Both goalkeepers were under-utilised and I'm sure they work harder in the warm-ups then they had to do in this game.

"It was a tense game, a close competitive game but we never expected a classic. The excitement is there, the game is poised for the second leg and there is everything to play for."

    Newcastle United

Newcastle are forced into a defensive rejig after Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat's red cards against Leicester. Vurnon Anita fills in as a make-shift full-back while Remy Cabella is included in a more attack-minded line-up.

Newcastle XI: Krul, Anita, Coloccini, Dummett, Gutierrez, Sissoko, R Taylor, Colback, Perez, Riviere, Cabella

West Brom XI: Myhill, Dawson, McAuley, Olsson, Lescott, Gardner, Fletcher, Mulumbu, Yacob, Brunt, Anichebe

Everton fans get agitated as Ross Barkley picks up the ball in the middle of the park, but quite can't decide what route to take. He shimmies this way, shimmies that way, then drives down the middle. No joy.

Seamus Coleman almost scores a worldy as he dinks the ball past a Sunderland player on the edge of the area, takes a couple of neat touches and then drills a low shot towards the near corner but it's deflected wide.
