Amit Lewinthal: So if Everton want to qualify for the Europa League their aim now is not winning but avoid fouling and getting booked.

Matt Graham: If Martinez can find a central midfielder to replace Gareth Barry, Everton could be very good next year.

Andy Firth: Everton need to play regularly in Europe to get used to the extra demands, so a fair play spot would be great.

"Sunderland have just started to come into the game. Defoe had a shot blocked by Wickham which was unfortunate but they are getting a bit more space and time in the ball. But the big worry for Advocaat is that ball down the sides for Romelu Lukaku. Sunderland have no pace at the back."

Jermain Defoe now has a go, shooting from 25 yards - but it deflects off the back of Connor Wickham and spins away from danger.

  5. Other Scottish permutationspublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

It's play-off time for the other leagues - Queen of the South versus Rangers first leg today - second leg next weekend. Winners play Hibernian over two legs, winner of that plays 11th from Premiership over two legs…

    Got it?! Elsewhere...

For a place in Championship: Alloa v Brechin (2-0) and Stranraer v Forfar (0-3)

For place in League One: Stenhousemuir v East Fife (1-1) and Queen's Park v Arbroath (2-2)

Winners meet over two legs in finals.

    And finally…

New pyramid play-off first leg - Montrose, who finished bottom of League Two, away to Highland League champs Brora Rangers.

  6. Scottish Premiership permutationspublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

It's a big day in Scotland, folks. In terms of the Premiership, Inverness CT can clinch third place with a win at home to Dundee. That would mean European football for the first time for the Scottish Cup finalists.

A draw would good enough if Dundee Utd (4th) draw with St Johnstone (5th).

At the bottom, St Mirren are down. There's a three-way tussle to avoid 11th place and a play-off with a team from the Championship. Motherwell are three behind Kilmarnock, who they beat last night, and Ross County.

County can take a big step towards safety with a win at home against St Mirren today but, with two games remaining, will not quite be there.

Celtic are champions, Aberdeen have wrapped up second - they play tomorrow.

"We are all set for a great second half. Mick McCarthy did a jig of excitement after that Paul Anderson goal for Ipswich.

"Ipswich have shown a bit more passion in the last 10 minutes when previously Norwich had been allowed to play. It is going to be a exciting game now.

"It has been an entertaining game, not high on quality or high on chances but you don't expect that in the play-offs. Ipswich are right back in the game and deserve to be."

Five touches in the opening 20 minutes for Jermain Defoe, and he's spent most of his energy tracking Leighton Baines back to his own box.

"It must be strange for Jermain Defoe, who is a goalscorer and a central striker, to be playing on the right side of a three.

"When you have got others who can play there I find it strange. Does he have to play him?"

Ipswich level it up! Freddie Sears sees his shot spilled by John Ruddy and substitute Paul Anderson is the man in the right place to slam home from close range. Mick McCarthy as animated in celebration as you've seen him in years.

"Everton are dominating because Sunderland don't want to play when they get the ball. They are happy to just clear the ball. Sunderland have started very poorly."

"Cameron Jerome got the wrong side of Luke Chambers and put in an early ball. It was a simple finish from Jonny Howson - he side-footed the ball across his body into the goal. It was a good early pass from Jerome and that did the damage.

"Ipswich must not over-commit themselves and get caught by a second goal. In fairness, Norwich have been a bit better at getting the ball into the box."

Goal in the Championship, and almost a goal in the Premier League. Leon Osman curls wide from the edge of the box as Everton continue their dominant start. Sunderland's gameplan is not working right now.

A big goal in Suffolk! Jonny Howson strokes Norwich ahead and gives them play-off advantage. Good work from Cameron Jerome down the left, he rolls his man and pulls the ball back nicely for Howson to run on to and steer into the corner. Controlled it well.

"Everton have got to up the tempo. They've got nothing to lose and need to ask some questions. They are just playing in front of Sunderland and they are dealing comfortably."

Leon Osman curls one wide from the edge of the area as Everton begin to impose themselves. Sunderland have gone with a front three today but in reality it means Jermain Defoe is doing his work as an auxiliary full-back.
