The teams are in the tunnel at Goodison Park. A win for Sunderland would take them 14th - that's how tight is is down there.

Close! You don't get much closer than that. Norwich midfielder Alex Tettey curls a wonderful effort against the frame of the goal, kissing the outside of the post from 20 yards. Unlucky!

  8. 'He doesn't want a letter, he needs a performance'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

    John Hartson
    BBC Football Focus

Former Wales striker John Hartson on the problems at Newcastle and manager John Carver's choice of words in the past week: "As a manager I feel you have got to choose your words more carefully.

"To say a player got sent off on purpose - they are very strong words.

"There are say-ers and do-ers in life. Don't be a say-er, be a do-er and that's what John Carver needs from his players.

"He doesn't want a letter from his captain, he needs a performance."

    John Hartson
    BBC Football Focus

"Aston Villa were so deep in trouble. Tim Sherwood has done a brilliant job in there.

"He has galvanised the team and got the spirit up. They looked like a team where the camaraderie wasn't there and Christian Benteke has been terrific.

"He has been magnificent for them. When he pulls away he is unplayable."

What is the future for fans at live games in the Premier League? Financially their input will become less and less important to clubs. Maybe it will be free to get in one day as Stephen suggests?

Stephen Shaw: All players will be fans of club, paid only for wins. Season tickets linked to home goals total. Derby day gates to local charity.

  13. 'Newcastle have fallen off a cliff'published at 12:27 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

    Graeme Le Saux
Former Chelsea defender on Football Focus

On the situation at Newcastle United.

"Alan Pardew got Manager of the Month in November, then they have fallen off a cliff. When a club does that players start looking at each other wondering what's happening. They need all the players pulling together in the same way.

"The players don't understand what they are all doing but for a manager to come out and say a player got himself sent off - that is a cardinal sin to come out and say that.

"When, as an away player, you go there and see the atmosphere turn then you know you've got them."

  17. Postpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

    Steve Bower
BBC Match of the Day commentator

"Relegation-threatened Sunderland knew they had to win last weekend at home to Southampton, and they did ... just.

"But without wanting to dampen any Wearside spirits, three of their last four matches 12 months ago were at the Stadium of Light; this time they have only one home game left.

"I know there is a strong determination in the Everton squad to finish a disappointing season strongly and as high up the table as possible."
