I know this is stating the incredibly obvious but Juventus are a cracking team. Easy on the eye, not like some Italian sides of times gone by. Carlos Tevez, Arturo Vidal, Andrea Pirlo and Paul Pogba play pass-the-parcel down the left, picking triangles and stretching the Real side before Pogba's cutback is hastily cleared. Next goal is massive.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:19 British Summer Time 13 May 2015

There's no defensively-minded player in the Real Madrid midfield and it leaves them very vulnerable. If Juventus get past one man they're basically in on goal every time and Carlos Tevez misses the chance to send Alvaro Morata clean through on goal. He can't get his head up to spot the pass and Isco tracks back to foul Tevez - booking.

Gareth Bale, as shown by his touch map above, has been on the fringes of things. Only defender Raphael Varane has had fewer touches of Real's outfield players.

An excellent half-hour of football. The knockout stages of the Champions League really are different gear. Gigi Buffon makes a routine save from a Karim Benzema header as the hosts continue to push for a second.

"It was a penalty. There was no need to make the challenge from Chiellini. He just bundled him over, a clear penalty."

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored twice as many goals in the Champions League semi-finals than any other player (10).

TEN goals in Champions League semi-finals. That is amazing. It really is

Juve must score, but they also don't want to get buried by half-time and they get done on the break, Karim Benzema finding Ronaldo, he cuts inside and shocks everyone by trying to pick out Isco when the shot was on. Shoot man!

    Belete Eshetea: Very soft penalty

Kenneth Gyang: Definitely not a pen in my book

Paul Hilferty: Never ever ever a penalty. Very poor.

Cristiano Ronaldo now has 307 goals for Real Madrid - the same as Alfredo Di Stefano. Only Raul stands ahead of him. Imagine if Ronaldo had joined Real as a teenager! He'd be knocking on the door of 500 by now.

Gareth Bale and Patrice Evra butt heads like a pair of stags, but it's an accident as they chase a bouncing ball. A rub El Magic sponge and the dup are OK to carry on.

Dan in London: Wondered how long it would be before that ref gave into the crowd. 21 minutes.

Never, ever, ever in doubt. Cristiano Ronaldo slams his 77th Champions League goal right down the middle, his 55th of the season. Talking telephone numbers. Real go through now unless Juventus score...

  11. PENALTY to REALpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 13 May 2015

Jonas Eriksson awards Real Madrid the penaltyImage source, Reuters

Penalty! Referee Jonas Eriksson points to the spot as James Rodriguez goes down. Instant reaction was that it's soft but the replay shows Giorgio Chiellini kicking the Colombian in the shins. Big moment...

Real dial it up a notch! First Karim Benzema breaks the offside trap to gallop into space on the left of goal, a good square ball and it's goal time but he drags his cross just behind the waiting Cristiano Ronaldo, who disarms with a withering stare. Then Gareth Bale lashes in a 25-yard piledriver which forces Gigi Buffon into a flying save. The Bernabeu is buzzing...

So much quality on display in these Champions League semi-finals. Plonk Isco in 97.5% of sides in Europe and he would be carried off after every game like some sort of Hollywood hero. Put him in the Real Madrid midfield and sometimes you forget he's even playing. He reminds me with a majestic touch to beat a man on the edge of the box before clipping a lovely disguised chip onto the roof of the net. Almost a sensational goal.

  14. Postpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 13 May 2015

Cristiano Ronaldo has now had 54 direct free-kick attempts this season by the way - they've produced only one goal! Rubbish.

    Paul PogbaImage source, Reuters

Paul Pogba has been fairly quiet so far but he briefly shows what he's all about, hurdling a challenge and then effortlessly covering 30 yards of turf. The Patrick Vieira comparisons are apt.

Juve keep the momentum going and Arturo Vidal lashes in a low shot which forces Iker Casillas into a diving save. An away goal would leave Real Madrid needing two to take us to extra-time.

Cristiano Ronaldo takes the free-kick, a lorry-load of dip with a side salad of swerve and it lands on the roof of the net! Close, but no cigar.

A sprinkling of unselfishness wouldn't go amiss in the Real ranks, I agree Leon. Real win a free-kick 30 yards out. Cristiano Ronaldo waves his team-mates away. The crowd slow clap his run-up...

Everton midfielder Leon Osman, BBC Radio 5 live

"Barcelona are the favourites to win the Champions League, whoever they play. They destroyed Bayern Munich in the first leg. They have everything, goals and creativity and they have players who are happy to set goals up for each other. They are unselfish and that is maybe where they differ from others."

Karim Benzema! I'll give 10/10 for approach play, it's a 3/10 for the finish though. The Frenchman juggles a bouncing ball brilliantly with his back to goal, flicks it over his head but then sees the headlines, gets a rush of blood to the head and slashes a shot over the bar.

Lovely touch though. First part was Frank Worthington, second part Frank Gallagher. Great start to the game.
