Adam, London: I don't think any realistic Spurs fan thought we could achieve Champions league football this season, we were only looking for progress which has definitely been seen today.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to BBC: "I said before we were going to see a beautiful game because both teams play offensive football so I expect the fans enjoyed the game. It was a close game and Sergio scored a great goal. I am happy about that.

"You must remember against Tottenham that Chelsea conceded five goals, we have a clean sheet. Tottenham create chances with offensive players, but I think we have as many chances as Tottenham. We have to finish the season now and then we will analyse it.

"I think it's important to finish as near the top as possible and see where we need to improve. Maybe Chelsea are more consistent this year and they won the league but we scored more when we did it."

Spurs have taken fewer points than any other team in the head to heads between the top six teams this season (8).

  5. Pellegrini dodges question about his futurepublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

The inevitable 'will you still be here next season' question is dangled in front of Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini down in the White Hart Lane tunnel. He doesn't take the bait.

"I'm not going to answer that question," huffs the Chilean before walking away.

  6. 'Hart was the difference'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino: "Joe Hart was brilliant today. He was the man of the match, and the difference between the teams.

"We had a chance to score from a corner, and there was a good counter attack from City and finish from Aguero. Our mentality is to attack the opposing goals. I think we were a little unlucky.

"Aguero is a brilliant player. The chance that he had, he scored. But we are disappointed."

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino: "I feel proud of our players. The performance was very good and we deserved much more. But the effort was brilliant.

"We had three or four chances in the first five minutes, but when you play Manchester City, you need to score when you get those chances."

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, speaking to BBC Sport: "We always produce a good game against Spurs. We counter attacked well, and when you have David Silva and Sergio Aguero up there you always get chances.

"Spurs really came at us today and sometimes you have to dig in and we did that. Chelsea's season is over now, congratulations to them, but ours isn't. It's good to have things to play for even though it's not a trophy now, and we'll fight to the end of the season."

Tottenham defender Danny Rose, speaking to Sky Sports: "We deserved a point, and had two or three good chances. Manchester City scored with their first real chance and had that class to put the ball in the net. We're all bitterly disappointed because we deserved something out of the game.

"I think we've done well against the big teams at home but everyone should be proud of themselves. City have just shown a bit more quality in front of goal. The chances that did come for us, Joe Hart's made some great saves and kept them in the game.

"We're looking to get nine points out of their remaining three games now. I think we've shown great work-rate and attitude and need to show that in the last three games."

Neil Adams: This Premier League season for Spurs is petering out like a bad date, you just want it to be over as soon as possible.

Chris Randell: Very good win, Blues. Silva, Aguero and Hart were excellent.

  15. Player reactionpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 3 May 2015

Manchester City keeper Joe Hart: "We have showed what we're about today. We have not played well - and we have done what teams have done to us.

"Sergio can always get us a goal, we managed to get the ball up to him and then we've defended for our lives.

"Congrats to Chelsea on winning the title - it is well deserved. To lead from the front and stay there - we've done that before and it's difficult - is impressive. But they know we will be back stronger next season."

David Pleat at White Hart Lane
Former Tottenham manager on BBC Radio 5 live:

"Big celebrations by the City staff. Tottenham started well, pressed well, full of energy but spurned clear chances. Aguero's fierce predatory instincts scored a super goal and City held out with string defensive work for a good away win."

Jubilant scenes in the away end - they have forgotten what it is like to celebrate a win on the road. City have avoided a fifth straight away defeat to move nine points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool, with just three matches left. City have a huge goal advantage over the Reds too.

Even Manuel Pellegrini manages a smile - and a selfie with some fans behind the dugout.
