Cesc Fabregas is high and late on Raheem Sterling, it's a nasty challenge and Fabregas is booked. It seems that Jon Mikel Obi was shown a red card by accident in the aftermath though.

What is that all about? After a brief lull in proceedings Mikel has a smile on his face and nobody has been sent off. I'm as confused as you are.

NOBODY HAS BEEN SENT OFF. Fabregas's challenge was nasty though.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is deep in conversation with Jon Mikel Obi. They'll share the central midfield duties today, the youngster looks rock solid.

Chelsea take to the field down the centre of the blue carpet. 'Champions!' rings out at Stamford Bridge but there's a slight air of awkwardness from both sets of players. It's all a bit irregular.

Jose Mourinho waits inside until the formalities are completed before stepping out to The Liquidator.

Steven Gerrard could have played for Chelsea 10 years ago. He leaves the Premier League in just a few weeks' time without a winners' medal, and now he has to welcome former England team-mate John Terry and co out as new champions.

He must have mixed feelings but he's ever-professional, stopping to ask the mascot if she is felling nervous.

"Enjoy your day, we'll look after you," he says before leading his side out either side of the blue carpet.

The tinkerman is in town. Claudio Ranieri never won the league with Chelsea but he's here to see Jose Mourinho's third-title winning side.

How many more medals will Jose add to the collection?

Rian Hoskins: Remy could score today, showing Liverpool should have signed him. Hope Filipe Luis impresses as I want him to stay at Chelsea.

RedIsaac: LFC buy class striker - an absolute must. Class centre-half equally important. Title lost last year due to leaky defence

  8. Roll out the carpetpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 10 May 2015

A blue - rather than red obviously - carpet is rolled out for the champions. Liverpool will line it and salute Jose Mourinho's title winners.

Praise from on high for Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The sprinklers are on at the Bridge, the sun is out, it's made for a good game. Let's hope both sides serve us one up.

Dartford FC's fans are currently proving themselves to be the most knowledgeable in the country as they sit top of the BBC Sport predictor league table after the opening seven games. Burnley may have been relegated yesterday but their fans are showing the best knowledge of any Premier League supporter base, in 10th place overall.

Sunderland fans had topped the predictor league after yesterday's opening Premier League match with many of their fans' optimistic predictions that their team was going to win 2-0 at Everton proving accurate, although they have now slipped down to 42nd, 10 places behind Newcastle United. If it is a sign for the real-life Premier League relegation battle, Hull City are currently below them both in 100th place.

Ed in Exeter: I look forward to Loftus-Cheek giving Mikel a lesson in how to be effective in midfield. This guy is the real deal.

Mo in Manchester: I think 3 years is enough time to show your progression, Luis Suarez aside, I'm sorry to say we are exactly where we were. Abysmal signings- and there was no complaints of world class attraction with champions league football this year. He [Rodgers] has to go.

    Remember Mark Beeney?

The goalkeeper played for Leeds and Brighton among other clubs in the 1990s and is now goalkeeping coach for Chelsea. He taught Petr Cech all/some/a fraction of what he knows.

Anyway, his son Mitchell Beeney is Chelsea's sub keeper today. Permission to feel old.

Of course, there is a neat parallel between the two sides this afternoon and their contrasting styles - and fortunes.

Few could argue that Liverpool were the most entertaining side to watch at times last season. Inspired by Luis Suarez, they were superb from Christmas onwards and came close to winning a first title in a generation.

But where did they come unstuck? Against Chelsea at Anfield last April. Brendan Rodgers was suckered in to trying to beat Chelsea when a draw would have done the job, Jose Mourinho's pragmatic approach saw Chelsea win with two goals on the break and Liverpool won nothing.

Would you rather be called 'boring' with a winners' medal around your neck or complimented on being a stylish loser?

Alex Klinger: We [Liverpool] need Benteke. Proven 20 goal a season striker who we have a chance of getting. Plus Milner if out of contract

Peter Campbell: Liverpool could still be a point behind Man Utd, before Man Utd play again, against Arsenal. Keep the faith!

Firas: So glad to see Loftus-Cheek starting. Really hope Jose keeps his promise to integrate Solanke, Boga and co next year.

  18. 'You made me better'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 10 May 2015

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard made him a "better manager" before their final Premier League meeting today.

Gerrard almost signed for Chelsea during Mourinho's first spell in charge of the Blues in 2005, and the Portuguese revealed he also wanted him at Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

"My dear enemy, he has made me a better manager because to stop him has been very difficult," Mourinho said, adding that he tried to sign him three times.

"I am very sad this is the last time I will face him."

Would Gerrard have shone at Real?
