By the Emirates' own low standards of crowd noise it's a quiet night in the stands. You can almost hear the players barking out orders.

Aaron Ramsey generates some hubbub of dissent though when he is booked for clattering Seb Larsson.

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Emirates Stadium

"Subdued start in front of a subdued crowd here at The Emirates. Sunderland will be hoping it stays like this and they can pick up the point they need to guarantee Premier League survival. One area of concern for Black Cats' boss Dick Advocaat will be the time and space being afforded to Arsenal's Hector Bellerin on the right flank."

Jermain Defoe has got to go through the middle for Sunderland and he seems to have been switched now. Instantly he almost gets in onto a flick-on but David Ospina is out quickly to gather. Very alert from the Arsenal keeper.

Fraser McIntosh: Hector Bellerin recently broke Arsenal's sprint record held by Thierry Henry and Theo Walcott. Easy to see why. Jet heels.

Rasanga: Alexis Sanchez has lost possession five times in a row now. His passing in the final third needs to improve drastically.

Stephen Flanagan: On Theo Walcott, I think he'll sign a new deal. He won't get into the starting 11 at Man City, Chelsea or Man Utd and he'll want Champions League football.

Jack Wilshere breaks into the box, Costel Pantilimon spreads himself well and makes a block. Good keeping! Both players are hurt but they will both be able to carry on I think.

Former Arsenal man Vito Mannone is out warming up and gets a favourable reception from the home fans.

That didn't last long then. Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini brilliantly flicks in a volley from close range to level.

Adam Johnson with a wonderful touch and turn but it comes to nothing. Sunderland will hope that Johnson or Jermain Defoe on the other flank can cause problems on the break.

Sitting back and asking Arsenal to have a go seems a risky strategy from Sunderland to me. Asking Jermain Defoe to play as a wing-back is equally fraught with danger. Hector Bellerin skins him again and puts over a decent ball but there's nobody there to meet it. Ou est Giroud?

Seb Larsson - who started off at Arsenal - wastes the free-kick with a poor ball in.

Peter Collins: When Sunderland sit deep, where is the width going to come from to hurt them? (Now fully expecting a rout to prove me wrong.)

It's been all Arsenal but Sunderland win a free-kick in a good area thanks to a good run from Billy Jones.

Eamonn McGurk: Good to see Jack Wilshere back but surely this looks like it will be Theo Walcott's final season at the Emirates!

Stephan Flanagan: As a Gunner, I wouldn't welcome the arrival of Raheem Sterling. He's overrated! I want players who are loyal and proven - he's neither.

Jermain Defoe is playing as an auxiliary left-back in the opening stages - but he is nowhere near quick enough to keep up with Hector Bellerin. He fires in a low cross which is crying out for a touch, and Seb Coates almost puts it in his own net! Dominant start from Arsenal.

Danny Graham is clipped in over the top and Arsenal's defence is caught out, but keeper David Ospina races out to clear his lines. Plenty of empty seats tonight.

We are under way! Jack Wilshere - Roy Hodgson's preferred option at the base of a diamond - is starting on the right.

Game time in Italy too. Will Juve continue to chase the treble? Or will Lazio pull off an upset?

No Beppe Signori or Diego Fuser in their side tonight unfortunately...

    Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown
BBC Radio 5 live at Emirates Stadium

"Life is tough if Arsenal are winning, for those substitutes. It's very difficult to get back into a winning team and that has been the case for Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere.

"Wilshere has been looking especially sharp when he has come on since recovering from injury but for me Francis Coquelin has to play in the Cup final. He is the first name on the team sheet."
