For now, though. I leave you with the words of Xavi, who played his last La Liga game for Barcelona at the Nou Camp after a 24-year career at the club.

Afterwards, fighting back tears, he said: "I am the happiest man in the world today and for the 17 seasons I have been [in the first team]. As the coach has said this hasn't finished. We want two more titles and we want to be here with you all again in Barcelona on June 7 [after the Champions League final]."

The way Barca are playing this season, Xavi might just have his way.

Plenty to ponder for Real Madrid. Will Carlo Ancelotti stay? Will Gareth Bale be heading back to the Premier League? And what of Barcelona. Can they match their 2009 feat of a domestic and European treble? The second leg of that challenge comes in the Copa Del Rey next Saturday against Athletic Bilabo and they face Juventus the following weekend in the Champions League final in Berlin. You will be able to follow both those games right here.

So Real Madrid finish second in la Liga, just two points behind champions Barcelona. It's not a huge gap, but appearances can be deceptive judging by the mood in the Spanish capital. Next season cannot come quick enough.

And that was the last action of the game. All over. Great entertainment.

Seven up, 10-goal thriller. Write your own headlines. Jese Rodriguez steams down the right, squares across the edge of the six-yard box and Marcelo slides in for an easy finish.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:16 British Summer Time 23 May 2015

What a parting shot or should that be save from Iker Casillas. Pablo Sarabia fires in from 25 yards and the Real keeper tips over acrobatically.

Galen: Real Madrid wouldn't be Real Madrid if they kept with a coach long term. Capello, Del Bosque. Won trophies but...

Vaishnev: Carlo Ancelloti should not be sacked. Please write a strong article against Perez for his policy as Carlo deserves to be there.

Jese Rodriguez and Javier Hernandez are again carving through the Getafe defence. The latter's shot is well saved, though.

Iker Casillas punches the resulting free-kick clear and receives cheers for his distribution. The home supporters are now crying 'Iker, Iker' as he applauds them in response. It could be the last time he savours the Bernabeu.

  10. YELLOW CARDSpublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 23 May 2015

Getafe's Alexis goes into the book for a foul on Jese Rodriguez. The free-kick comes to nothing and Real's Marcelo also receives a yellow card soon after.

Getafe goalscorer Diego Castro is taken off in place of Baba Diawara.

Real's Jese Rodriguez should be on the scoresheet again, but scoops the ball over the Getafe bar with the goal at this mercy.

Do you think Carlo Ancelotti should get the boot? He won the Champions League last season. Strangely, he was also sacked by Chelsea the year after he did the Premier League and FA Cup double. It seems that last year doesn't count for the Italian coach.

A lovely goal this. Jese Rodriguez plays a beautifully-weighted one-two with James Rodriguez and fizzes his shot into the far corner. That should be game over. Real are well in control now.

Jese is brought down outside the left side of Getafe's penalty area. James Rodriguez steps up, but his curling effort is well saved.

The pace is slowing in this one as the drums rumble from the top of the Bernabeu. Toni Kroos picks out James Rodriguez on the left wing, with the Colombian squaring to Javier Hernandez, but the former Manchester United striker fires straight at Jordi Codina.

Great chance for Getafe's Alexis. Superb run by Pablo Sarabia down the left, he cuts it back to his team-mate six yards from goal but he flicks with his wrong foot wide of the post.

If you don't know much about Martin Odegaard, I can tell you he moved to Real in January from Stromgodset for a fee reported to be about 3m Euro. He made his Norway debut at the age of 15 and the left-footer has drawn comparisons to Barcelona's Lionel Messi for his style of play.
