Xavi, who is captain for the day, nips in to dispossess Deportivo's Borges and is keen to feed Jeremy Mathieu down the left. The long diagonal to Pedro on the right is another pass that is working well.

Roberto Canella heads away for Deportivo, with the visiting defence very much being kept on their toes. Neymar then tries an overhead kick but it's straight into the hands of goalkeeper Fabricio.

Fresh from scoring his 55th goal of the season, Lionel Messi is dropping deep to get on the ball. Xavi probing as you would expect but as we approach the midway point of the first half, there is a processional feel to the match.

John McEnerney: Xavi without doubt is an all-time great, easily in the top three midfielders ever. He gave a masterclass versus Italy in the Euro 2012 final.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 17:48 British Summer Time 23 May 2015

Deportivo goalkeeper Fabricio makes a fantastic double save to deny Lionel Messi a second, quickly rising to his feet to stop Pedro's close-range follow-up. That could be huge.

"Xavi, Xavi, Xavi," cheer the Barcelona fans as their team casually strolls the ball around in midfield. Nine changes to this team, and they are not being tested as yet.

  10. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 23 May 2015

Lionel Messi has the ball in the net again from a lovely lofted pass from Neymar, and it looked onside, but the referee disagreed and that is all that counts.

Eibar are now 2-0 up at home to already relegated Cordoba. Deportivo with it all to do.

A couple of party pieces from Neymar as his backheel sets up an Adriano cross but it's just too deep for Jeremy Mathieu, who is showing no fear in getting forward and fires wide.

Eibar have just scored to go 1-0 up against bottom club Cordoba, which puts Deportivo in the bottom two. Not a good opening for Victor Sanchez's side.

Barcelona lead a quick counter attack, a cross from the left is too strong, but Rafinha clips it to the back post where the onrushing Lionel Messi heads in from close-range.

It's a glorious day in Barcelona as Lionel Messi tries to pick out Jeremy Mathieu as he marauds forward from defence. But the lofted pass is just too strong.

You can already see Deportivo's plan of action. Pack the midfield and perhaps score on the break? They are desperate to stay in La Liga. They were champions in the 1990-2000 season.

The Barcelona players will be wearing special shirts today saying 'Thankyou Xavi' on them before the diminutive midfielder heads to Qatari side Al Saad after this season. In his 17 years in the first team he has won 23 trophies including eight La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues. That could be four by the end of the season.
