We’ve seen two pressing teams. We couldn’t cope with their pressing, and Tottenham couldn’t cope with ours. I’m very happy that we’ve won in the end. I had expected better from us. Tottenham were pressing and we didn’t have the time to pass. We have to improve on that. I said to Memphis Depay that he doesn’t have to play too eagerly and with too much passion, and that counts for the whole team. But it is always – the first time you play at Old Trafford it s always difficult, but I liked the performance especially from Matteo Darmian. I am not the most important part with David De Gea. The most important part is the player and the club who wants to buy him. He’s our best layer for the past 2 or 3 years so we cannot let him go so easily. We want to sell at the same level as we pay. We want to keep him of course.

We’re very frustrated and disappointed because until the goal, we played much better than them, we created some chances and dominated the game. After we conceded the goal it was difficult to play to the same level. I think we played very well. It’s true that when you compete against a team like Manchester United you need to avoid mistakes. And there were two or three big, big mistakes today. On the whole we need to be happy though.

It was good to get that clean sheet. At times we didn’t play well today, but we dug in at the end and it was an important three points. It was important we got off to a good start.

I don't think United can win the Premier League. They have made some good signings, but I look at the defence and the problems they are having with David De Gea and they just lack the solidity required.

Last season was a free bite of the cherry for Louis van Gaal, but this is his team now. There are no more excuses and he cannot afford to go through the season without silverware.

We have to keep our head up. We came here and gave them a game, we just lacked goals. I tried to stick my foot in the way so it was unlucky. We are moving in the right direction, it is a good start.

It wasn't a good game. Two teams that will be top six at the end of the season. It's a hot day and they've had hard pre-seasons. A draw would have been a fair result.

The most important thing today was the victory. After we got a bad start to last season, we had to get the three points today. We have worked hard in pre-season and then we will star preparing for Aston Villa next week.

The United fans were desperate for the referee to blow his full-time whistle, which says a lot about the nature of their side's win.

The home supporters in front of me were on their feet when Wayne Rooney broke forward in stoppage time but that was the only time their backsides left their seats for footballing reasons in the second half. The other occasions were to either welcome on or applaud off one of their new signings.

Tottenham's fans were still noisily saluting their team long after the final whistle. They, and everyone else inside Old Trafford, knows their team did not deserve to leave empty-handed.
