    Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

Early second half change from Mauricio Pochettino as Ryan Mason comes on for Nabil Bentaleb. It was the Algerian's error that led to the United goal, as he gave the ball away on the edge of his own box.

Big applause from the home fans as midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger steps off the bench to warm up. He'll want to get some minutes today.

Spurs put the pressure on, with full-back Kyle Walker looking to score at the right end this time, but United scramble the ball away from goal.

Make shift centre-back Daley Blind caught in possession for the first time, but Spurs - like the first half - can't make anything of it when they get the ball.

At the other end, Memphis Depay lets fly from around 30-yards out, which sails over the bar.

  4. Shot-shy Unitedpublished at 48 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

This graphic shows Manchester United's attempts on goal in the first half - one shot off target by Juan Mata. Sums up the first half in many ways. They also had four blocked attempts though. No chances in the second half yet.

An old cliche, but the next goal is crucial.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane hasn't had any chances - he's worked hard but with little success.

  8. Food for thought?published at 13:47

    Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

Wonder what Manchester United's trio of left-out goalkeepers made of Sergio Romero's first-half performance?

Victor Valdes has already faced the wrath of manager Louis van Gaal after allegedly refusing to play in a reserve game. He's refused to wear a tie today. Scruffy.

Here's what former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's might look like:

    Alex Ferguson's Premier League life

When Sir Alex Ferguson was born in Glasgow in 1942, Great Britain was at war with Nazi Germany.

Manchester United's first match after his birth was a 4-3 defeat away to Liverpool in the North Region War League - with the Football League suspended.

Since then, Old Trafford has been visited over 140m times...

No rest for Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker as Manchester United spent most of the half attacking down their left flank.

Tottenham have done next to nothing in attack since falling behind but although Manchester United head in at half-time happy to be ahead there is still plenty of room for improvement from Louis van Gaal's side.

They have only really threatened when Spurs have given them the ball, which sadly for the visitors has been on more than one occasion.

Tottenham for keeping all that possession have never threatened United. They have given the ball away cheaply. United haven't played particularly well. There’s been a lot of 'tippy tappy' football in the midfield. They look very cagey and nervous – it should be 0-0.

Toby Alderweireld with a shot from the edge of the area, which is gathered by Sergio Romero. The last act of the first half.

Spurs can't do much with the ball and United get it back. Sergio Romero again looks dodgy with ball at his feet. A look of, 'hmmm, this is quite difficult' on his face. One added minute.

No urgency from Spurs just yet, happy to knock the ball around at the back. It's quite clever though, taking the sting out of the game. They eventually ping to long towards the right flank and find themselves in a good position in the final third.

I think Manchester United keeper David De Gea is definitely going. The Spanish league starts in two weeks. Real Madrid have just been haggling on the price.

Matteo Darmian has had a good game so far, considering the Italian is new to the Premier League. Hasn't put a foot wrong and cut out a few balls forward from Spurs.
