The away side are dominating. They are in control and should actually be leading through Christian Eriksen. You don't see this too often at Old Trafford. The home side have hardly had a touch of the ball.

All Tottenham so far. In fact, United are yet to have an attempt on goal.

Both United full-backs Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw are getting as high up the pitch as they can. Shaw had an excellent pre-season and is looking in great shape. Can he stay fit after a stuttering first season?

Harry Kane working hard in the final third for Spurs, hassling and harrying the opposition players.

Goalkeepers Victor Valdes, David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard are all in the stands at Old Trafford. Will any of them play for the club again?

Meanwhile, new signings Matteo Darmian swings a ball into the box which is easily gathered by Michel Vorm.

CHANCE! He really should be doing better here. Harry Kane clips a ball through to Christian Eriksen who is in on goal and lobs the onrushing debutant Sergio Romero, but the ball lands on top of the net.

A real let-off for the home side.

De Gea and Valdes watch from directors' box at Old Trafford

In normal circumstances, David De Gea would be on the pitch and behind the United defence as their opening game of the season gets under way.

Today, he is behind me - in the Old Trafford executive box. The Spanish keeper, left out because he has been distracted by talk of a move to Real Madrid, will have plenty of time to think about his potential move in the next 90 minutes or so but is here to cheer his current team-mates on.

"We are focusing on today, our preparation was very good. We are ready to compete. Michel Vorm is playing in goal for common sense. Hugo Lloris only played last 30 minutes against Milan and he's not fit to play 90 minutes [after a wrist injury]. Danny Rose is out. In the last training session he suffered an injury in his quadricep, it's not a big issue but it was impossible for him to play today."

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, on whether preparations have gone well after playing pre-seasons game this week:

Each of Manchester United's four debutants today got a huge cheer when their names were read out over the tannoy at Old Trafford just now and it is clear that their manager believes their arrival means his side are in better shape than on the opening day of last season, when not a single one of his signings started.

"I firmly believe in the refreshment of teams," Louis van Gaal writes in his programme notes for today's game. "You need that to keep the spirit in the team and also challenge the line-up. When I arrived at Old Trafford it was not like that but now we have all the positions double-occupied and we have better balance in the team."
