  1. FULL-TIME

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

All over. Watford have to settle with a point despite a dominant display.

For all the reaction, plus news from today's other games, head on over to the main Saturday football live text. Goodbye!

  2. YELLOW CARD

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Allan Nyom has had a good game but he goes into the book for a cynical trip.

  3. SUBSTITUTION

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Three minutes added time. Saido Berahino is replaced by Callum McManaman.

  4. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Is that the last chance? Almen Abdi takes a swing from 20 yards but his effort dribbles tamely into the gloves of Boaz Myhill.

  5. Watford 0-0 West Brom

West Brom are pressing in the closing stages. Allan Nyom is forced to concede a corner but it's well headed clear. Then Salomon Rondon tries to play in James Morrison but Gomes races out of his goal to claim.

  6. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Etienne Capoue gives away a free kick in a dangerous area. Chris Brunt can take a mean dead ball but he's off target on this occasion, not getting enough dip and curl on his strike to take the ball under the crossbar.

  7. SUBSTITUTION

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Interesting...Quique Sanchez Flores withdraws Jose Jurado, who has been arguably his side's best player, and throws on Steven Berghuis for his debut.

    Jose Jurado
  8. CLOSE!

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

What a chance. What a chance. West Brom have barely had a sniff all match but they should be 1-0 up. The Baggies work a short corner cleverly, Chris Brunt stands up a cross to the back post, where it's nodded back across goal by Rickie Lambert. All Saido Berahino has to do is head the ball goalwards from four yards out but he mistimes his leap and squirts the ball wide. What a let-off for Watford.

  9. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Nyom has got a terrific delivery on him - Almen Abdi puts him in on the overlap and he lazily swings his boot at the ball and produces a beaut of a cross that Chris Brunt has to head to safety.

  10. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Is fatigue beginning to take its toll on Watford? For the first time in the game they are beginning to misplace a few passes, Ikechi Anya the latest culprit with an overhit cross.

  11. Watford 0-0 West Brom

A rather scrappy passage of play ends with Troy Deeney regaining possession on the edge of the area and sending a rising drive over the top of the crossbar. Watford will have to do better than that.

  12. Watford 0-0 West Brom

I've just had a look at the stats and I wasn't entirely surprised to find that West Brom haven't had a shot on target yet. It's been that sort of day for Tony Pulis's men. About the best you can say is that they've been resilient, and of course, they are still right in this game.

  13. Post update

  14. Watford 0-0 West Brom

How many chances can Watford spurn? Ikechi Anya whips in a lovely cross right into the heart of the West Brom area, but Odion Ighalo can't quite stretch enough to guide his diving header into the net. You just wonder if Watford will rue all these missed opportunities.

  15. YELLOW CARD

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Rickie Lambert lunges in desperately and very, very late on Valon Behrami. It's not malicious, but the West Brom striker can have few complaints about his place in the referee's notebook.

  16. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Allan Nyom has played as well as anybody today. For the umpteenth time he surges upfield and pings in a great cross, but there's no-one in the middle to turn it home. Is it going to be one of those days for Watford?

  17. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Goodness me, what an introduction that would have been! Barely 60 seconds after coming on, Salomon Rondon finds himself all alone in the space vacated by Ikechi Anya. He cuts inside the centre-back and goes for goal, but his effort rises over the crossbar. It's the closest West Brom have come.

  18. SUBSTITUTION

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Here he is! West Brom's record signing Salomon Rondon enters the fray, replacing Craig Gardner. He'll play up top for the Baggies.

  19. Post update

Will he be the man to break the deadlock today?

    Odion Ighalo stats graphic
  20. CLOSE!

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

West Brom really are living dangerously here. They allow Ikechi Anya to stroll to the byline and send over a teasing cross which is headed back across goal by Troy Deeney before Odion Ighalo's effort is blocked on the line. Watford sniffing a breakthrough here...

  21. Watford 0-0 West Brom

West Brom can't stop Jose Jurado - not legally at least. The Spanish midfielder has been a cut above today and Craig Dawson is forced to chop him down. West Brom clear the free kick, but there's no-one upfield and Watford have it straight back.

  22. SUBSTITUTION

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Quique Sanchez Flores is first to show his hand. Almen Abdi replaces Miguel Layun for Watford.

  23. Post update

Quote Message: The passing’s been poor. It was a criticism of his team by Tony Pulis last season – when they had the ball they just weren’t able to keep it well enough, and it’s the same today. from Paul Franks Presenter

  24. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Now then, referee! James Morrison slides a dangerous through ball into the area, Saido Berahino hares after it and tumbles under the challenge of onrushing goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. The referee says no penalty, and on second viewing it looks a good decision.

  25. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Watford picking up where they left off. Odion Ighalo can certainly strike a ball from distance and he once again tests Boaz Myhill with an accurate long-range missile.

  26. Jurado on the roam

Jose Jurado might be on the team sheet as a central midfielder, but his first-half heat map shows how effectively he drifted into wide areas to cause West Brom problems.

    Jose Jurado heat map
  27. Watford 0-0 West Brom

West Brom have a free kick in a threatening area, but Darren Fletcher isn't on the same wavelength as his team-mates and his quickly taken set-piece drifts behind for a goal-kick. Waste.

  28. KICK-OFF

Back under way at Vicarage Road...

  29. Post update

West Brom's record signing Salomon Rondon is warming up at half time, enjoying a delightful misting from the pitchside sprinklers. Missing the tropical rainstorms of his native Venezuela perhaps?

  30. Post update

Just the 11 on show so far today!

  31. Post update

How do you feel about that half then Watford fans? If I were you, I'd be hugely encouraged by the general play of the Hornets - they had West Brom on the back foot for virtually the entire first half with slick, powerful attacking football.

But as we all know, promoted teams need to take advantage of periods of dominance, especially at home, if they want to beat the drop, and Watford didn't manage to do that in the first half.

  32. Post update

    John Roder

    Match of the Day commentator

Quote Message: "Watford weren't involved in a goalless draw last season, but it's 0-0 here at the break. They weren't able to take any of the chances that they created. Tony Pulis will be looking for a big improvement from his side in the second half.
  33. HALF-TIME

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

The referee brings the first period to a close. Watford have played terrifically well, but they haven't yet manage to take any of their chances. Will they be made to rue that in the second half?

  34. CLOSE!

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

And again Watford go close! The Deeney-Ighalo combination that tormented the Championship last season nearly unlocks a Premiership defence for the first time, with the Nigerian bursting on to the Englishman's knock-down header and firing in a stinging shot which is well tipped over by Boaz Myhill.

  35. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Watford are winning the battle of midfield muscle at the moment: Etienne Capoue never made much impact at Spurs but he's giving West Brom the runaround, shrugging off the challenge of James Morrison in the middle of the park.

  36. Watford 0-0 West Brom

West Brom are like a struggling prizefighter at the moment - every time they try to attack, they invite Watford on to them on the counter. This time it's Ikechi Anya leading the breakout, but for all their pressure, Watford can't quite find that cutting edge.

  37. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Allan Nyom looks a really good signing for Watford. He can use his power to really good effect in both defence and attack. He wins a corner off James Morrison, but it's well cleared.

  38. CLOSE!

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

And Jurado curls the free kick a whisker wide! Watford have had all the chances so far.

  39. YELLOW CARD

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Jonas Olsson goes into the book for a cynical trip on the rampaging Odion Ighalo.

  40. Watford 0-0 West Brom

West Brom coming in to the game now. This time Craig Cathcart has to clear awkwardly behind from Chris Brunt's dangerous cross. But the corner is cleared easily at the near post and Watford surge upfield on the counter, led by Allan Nyom, who advances on the area and stings the gloves of Boaz Myhill with a powerful shot.

  41. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Against the run of play, it's West Brom who win the first corner of the match when Allan Nyom clears a dangerous cross. It comes to nothing when Rickie Lambert's flick-on finds Saido Berahino offside.

  42. CLOSE!

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

Jurado is at the heart of everything good for Watford. He releases Ikechi Anya on the overlap, his ball is heading back across the face of goal by Troy Deeney, but Boaz Myhill bravely intervenes to punch the ball off the laces of Odion Ighalo.

  43. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Watford right on top here, West Brom camped deep in their own half. Right-back Allan Nyom saunters upfield and sends in a searching cross, but Boaz Myhill plucks it off the head of Troy Deeney.

  44. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Jose Jurado is a real box of tricks. The Spaniard leaves Gareth McAuley for dead with an audacious nutmeg before Craig Dawson slides in to clear the danger.

  45. Watford 0-0 West Brom

This is a really enterprising start by Watford. Etienne Capoue drives at the defence and dinks a teasing cross into the box, which Jose Jurado meets with an acrobatic effort over the top.

  46. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Watford midfielder Valon Behrami has taken a whack to the chops. The hosts are temporarily down to 10 while gets the blood cleared up on the sidelines.

  47. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Ikechi Anya is a slippery little pest of a winger. He draws a clumsy foul out of Craig Gardner, but the otherwise impressive Jurado mishits the free kick.

  48. Post update

    West Brom stats graphic
  49. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Tell you what, this is lively. A great ball over the top by Jurado springs Troy Deeney in behind, the striker takes the shot on first time from a tight angle and brings a good save out of Boaz Myhill.

  50. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Etienne Capoue, formerly of Spurs, tries to burst between Claudio Yacob and Chris Brunt and finds the door slammed unceremoniously shut in his face. The resulting free kick comes to nothing, before West Brom break and James Morrison has an ambitious long-range shot blocked.

  51. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Again Jose Manuel Jurado and Troy Deeney combine well for Watford. The Spaniard twists and turns his way to the byline before dinking in an enticing delivery that Deeney meets with a brave diving header - but his effort is well blocked. It's been an open start.

  52. Watford 0-0 West Brom

West Brom look to spring Rickie Lambert over the top with a cheeky early free kick, the striker feeds the ball to Craig Gardner but his cross eludes an unmarked Saido Berahino in the danger area.

Quote Message: I hope that Salomon Rondon's arrival at West Brom doesn't mean Saido Berahino is leaving. I think Tony Pulis needs them both. Berahino looks a happy player. It would be a mistake to let him go.
  54. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Watford on top in the early stages. Jose Jurado whips in a sizzling cross but Troy Deeney can only skim it off the top of his head and the ball fizzes wide.

  55. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Our first shot of the match and it's a good one, Watford's Odion Ighalo letting fly with an absolute rasper from 25 yards out, but Boaz Myhill is solidly behind it.

  56. Watford 0-0 West Brom

Tony Pulis has a fine record against Watford. He's only lost once against them in 11 games as a manager. His West Brom side have an early attack, but Rickie Lambert can't find Saido Berahino in the middle.

  57. KICK-OFF

We're off! Watford playing in yellow and black, West Brom in black and white stripes.

  58. Post update

A lingering cuddle for Tony Pulis from Quique Sanchez Flores. Bromance.

  59. Post update

It's absolutely rocking at Vicarage Road. Every Watford player is cheered to the rafters as their name is read out.

Could we see record signing Salomon Rondon make his bow for the Baggies today? The £12m man is on the bench today.

For Watford, £4m winger Steven Berghuis, a summer acquisition from AZ, could also be in line to make his debut as a substitute.

Most pundits didn't give Watford a prayer of staying up. But while it's still early days, Quique Sanchez Flores's side did more than enough on the opening weekend to suggest they can confound those gloomy predictions, putting in an excellent performance to take a point from Goodison Park.

But as we all know, home form is the foundation on which promoted sides build their Premier League survival. If Watford can keep the feelgood factor going at Vicarage Road, they'll be in with a great chance of staying up.

  65. Can Tony atone?

As we mentioned, it was a rotten start to the season for West Brom, who were brushed aside by Man City. And afterwards, Tony Pulis pulled no punches as he singled out the man responsible for the embarrassing performance: himself.

"I take responsibility for the way we set up," he said. "I have to look at it and say if I did it again I would probably do it differently."

Now, I for one salute Big Tone's honesty. But you don't get points for candour in the Premier League. It's a results business, dontcha know? He'll be anxious to get his tactics spot on today.

  67. Team news

Watford make just one change from their opening day draw with Everton: Odion Ighalo, who came off the bench to score last weekend, gets a start, replacing Jose Holebas.

West Brom take more drastic action after their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, with three changes: James Chester and Joleon Lescott drop out of the defence, replaced by Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley, while Cluadio Yacob comes in for James McClean to stiffen the midfield. New signing Salomon Rondon is on the bench.

  70. Bottom of the pile

Look, I know, I know - it's early days. Still, no-one likes to be bottom, do they?

That's the position that West Brom find themselves in after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Today the Baggies take on Watford, who were many people's pre-season tip for 20th place, but impressed in their 2-2 draw with Everton on the opening weekend.
