  1. Watford 0-0 West Brompublished at 57 mins

West Brom can't stop Jose Jurado - not legally at least. The Spanish midfielder has been a cut above today and Craig Dawson is forced to chop him down. West Brom clear the free kick, but there's no-one upfield and Watford have it straight back.

The passing’s been poor. It was a criticism of his team by Tony Pulis last season – when they had the ball they just weren’t able to keep it well enough, and it’s the same today.

Now then, referee! James Morrison slides a dangerous through ball into the area, Saido Berahino hares after it and tumbles under the challenge of onrushing goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. The referee says no penalty, and on second viewing it looks a good decision.

  5. Watford 0-0 West Brompublished at 51 mins

Watford picking up where they left off. Odion Ighalo can certainly strike a ball from distance and he once again tests Boaz Myhill with an accurate long-range missile.

  6. Jurado on the roampublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 15 August 2015

Jose Jurado might be on the team sheet as a central midfielder, but his first-half heat map shows how effectively he drifted into wide areas to cause West Brom problems.

  7. Watford 0-0 West Brompublished at 48 mins

West Brom have a free kick in a threatening area, but Darren Fletcher isn't on the same wavelength as his team-mates and his quickly taken set-piece drifts behind for a goal-kick. Waste.

West Brom's record signing Salomon Rondon is warming up at half time, enjoying a delightful misting from the pitchside sprinklers. Missing the tropical rainstorms of his native Venezuela perhaps?

How do you feel about that half then Watford fans? If I were you, I'd be hugely encouraged by the general play of the Hornets - they had West Brom on the back foot for virtually the entire first half with slick, powerful attacking football.

But as we all know, promoted teams need to take advantage of periods of dominance, especially at home, if they want to beat the drop, and Watford didn't manage to do that in the first half.

"Watford weren't involved in a goalless draw last season, but it's 0-0 here at the break. They weren't able to take any of the chances that they created. Tony Pulis will be looking for a big improvement from his side in the second half.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

The referee brings the first period to a close. Watford have played terrifically well, but they haven't yet manage to take any of their chances. Will they be made to rue that in the second half?

  14. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

And again Watford go close! The Deeney-Ighalo combination that tormented the Championship last season nearly unlocks a Premiership defence for the first time, with the Nigerian bursting on to the Englishman's knock-down header and firing in a stinging shot which is well tipped over by Boaz Myhill.

  15. Watford 0-0 West Brompublished at 42 mins

Watford are winning the battle of midfield muscle at the moment: Etienne Capoue never made much impact at Spurs but he's giving West Brom the runaround, shrugging off the challenge of James Morrison in the middle of the park.

  16. Watford 0-0 West Brompublished at 40 mins

West Brom are like a struggling prizefighter at the moment - every time they try to attack, they invite Watford on to them on the counter. This time it's Ikechi Anya leading the breakout, but for all their pressure, Watford can't quite find that cutting edge.

  17. Watford 0-0 West Brompublished at 37 mins

Allan Nyom looks a really good signing for Watford. He can use his power to really good effect in both defence and attack. He wins a corner off James Morrison, but it's well cleared.

  18. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

    Watford 0-0 West Brom

And Jurado curls the free kick a whisker wide! Watford have had all the chances so far.

Jonas Olsson goes into the book for a cynical trip on the rampaging Odion Ighalo.

  20. Watford 0-0 West Brompublished at 31 mins

West Brom coming in to the game now. This time Craig Cathcart has to clear awkwardly behind from Chris Brunt's dangerous cross. But the corner is cleared easily at the near post and Watford surge upfield on the counter, led by Allan Nyom, who advances on the area and stings the gloves of Boaz Myhill with a powerful shot.
