Graziano Pelle is a strange mix of an old-fashioned bruiser of a centre-forward and your archetypal foreign fancy-dan.

The Italian plays the latter role with an extravagant flick around the corner for Jay Rodriguez. Lovely touch, but Rodriguez has strayed offside.

    Southampton 1-0 Norwich

Norwich, whose heatmap is on the right of these two images, have been most busy around their own penalty spot.

That late Graziano Pelle goal means that they will have to chance their arm a little more in the second half.

Had Cameron Jerome converted that chance halfway through the first half it might have been a very different scenario for Alex Neil's side.

Southampton to leap-frog Norwich as it stands.

And it will take a pretty smart plan for Norwich to wrestle this match back their way after Steven Whittaker's red card.

"It's a strange goal. Pelle makes his way inside of the defender and just helps it on inside the post. But Southampton have deserved that."

Southampton were struggling to work out the puzzle of 10-man Norwich, but they hit on a solution just before the break.

Sadio Mane gets goal-side of Alex Tettey and feeds the ball into the box where Graziano Pelle has got in front of Russell Martin to turn the ball beyond a helpless John Ruddy.

He was only just onside from the pass.

Oriol Romeu robs Graham Dorrans in midfield and Southampton burst forward, attempting to exploit the turnover.

Norwich have kept plenty of men back though and hold a strong defensive line as the cross comes in. Graziano Pelle is up to meet it, but his knock-down fails to find a team-mate.

    Attack, attack, attack.

Southampton's front three have one job - go and score a goal. The graphic below left shows how Dusan Tadic (11), Graziano Pelle (19) and Sadio Mane (10) are consistently close together and pouring forward.

Norwich's Cameron Jerome (10), however, isn't getting much support from those behind him. That's unlikely to change as Norwich attempt to hold what they have with 10 men.

Norwich's ten men are scurrying and scraping. Cameron Jerome is now doing a solo job up front, with his team-mates just dots on the defensive horizon.

They are gagging for half-time and a chance to regroup. Southampton will want something to show for their dominance. Five to go.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 33 mins

Alex Neill makes a change and it is the obvious one. Wes Hoolahan gets hooked and on-loan defender Andre Wisdom is thrown on to shore up the backline.

Dusan Tadic celebrated that red card for Steven Whittaker like a goal. His side, a man up, are already getting stuck into Norwich.

Sadio Mane sends a cross skimming through a packed six-yard box and somehow no team-mate gets a touch.

Snap! The first yellow card is followed by a second in quick succession. Steven Whittaker has a chunk of Dusan Tadic's shirt as the Southampton man attempts to get onto the end of James Ward-Prowse's chipped throughball.

    He's a goner.

A bit of transfer news to bring you...

Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has joined Turkish side Fenerbahce on a season-long loan deal.

A £20m signing from Benfica last summer, the 21-year-old is being allowed to move to aid his development and Liverpool insist he will be returning to Anfield.

The Reds will receive a loan fee from Fenerbahce.
