  1. 3 out of 10published at 12:00

    Thanks Mandeep. I think you're being too kind - I'm a 3 out of 10 at best.

But enough of that... how are you all doing? Looking forward to the day's football? Of course you are.

It's now time to hand over the reins to Marc Higginson, who - if he was a footballer - would defo have been the sort of guy mothers would have "quite liked". Enjoy.

This morning we're asking you, in tandem with the Danny Baker Show on BBC Radio 5 live: Which footballer did your mother "quite like" - and why.

James: My mother always had a thing for Theo Walcott because he "looked like such a nice boy". Recently though, and for the same reason, she's begun to quite like Joe Root.

Stephen Orwin: My Nan had a massive thing for Emmanuel Petit!

Matt Bunker: My mother still talks about "little Scholesy" with a lot of affection.

    Arsenal v Stoke (15:00 BST)

Back to Arsenal v Stoke and the arrivals suite at Arsenal was, how can I put this, empty for most of the summer.

Much to the bemusement of some Gunners fans, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger made just one signing with the capture of keeper Petr Cech during the summer with transfer deadline day passing the club's supporters by without any new faces to celebrate.

"The solutions we had were not convincing at all," explained Wenger. "I have made more than 300 transfers and every time it's a decision to make.

"You either find someone who strengthens your squad or not. Whether we have players injured or not doesn't change the problem, You also have to be brave enough to say no."

  5. Breaking team newspublished at 11:48

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

Everton centre-back John Stones starts against the club who unsuccessfully tried to buy him in the summer.

Chelsea keeper Asmir Begovic starts as expected in place of the injured Thibaut Courtois, while centre-back Gary Cahill is on the bench as Kurt Zouma starts.

  6. MOTD commentator's viewpublished at 11:40

    Arsenal v Stoke (15:00 BST)

    Jonathan Pearce
    BBC football commentator

"It was 29 August 1981 when Stoke last won at Arsenal.

"It was a month after Prince Charles married Princess Diana. Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett had broken the world mile record three times in 10 days and Aneka's Japanese Boy knocked Shakin' Stevens' Green Door off number one in the charts. , external

"With Charlie Adam and Ibrahim Afellay banned and Mame Diouf possibly injured, their hopes of causing Arsenal the sort of headaches they do at the Britannia Stadium don't look bright.

"But Arsenal have found scoring at home problematic. Couple that with Stoke's durable away record of four draws in five and it could be a frustrating day for home fans."

Rod: My mum swooned over Terry Cooper (Leeds United full-back) for years because "he was handsome and looked like a gentleman". She's now 90 and recovering from a broken hip in Nuneaton's George Eliot Hospital, and I hope this cheers her up!

  9. MOTD commentator's viewpublished at 11:28

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

    Steve Bower
    BBC football commentator

"How will Chelsea respond to their defeat by Crystal Palace? Jose Mourinho has had a fortnight to reflect and will demand and expect a reaction.

"Chelsea need to rediscover their toughness and togetherness; the foundation on which last season's title success was built.

"One of many sub-plots sees Diego Costa try to add to his solitary goal against John Stones, who Chelsea hoped would be his team-mate by now.

"I watched Everton contain Manchester City for large periods at Goodison Park recently but struggle to create clear-cut opportunities. If they can do that here they could add to Chelsea's frustrations."

Chelsea are finding life tough as reigning champions as they have only four points from four Premier League games and are eight points behind leaders Manchester City.

"It's difficult to play as a champion because everyone wants to beat you, everyone wants to kill you," Blues playmaker Eden Hazard told HypeBeast.com.

"We had a fantastic season last season... if we could do the same this season we'd be good."

  11. 'Mourinho will be hurting'published at 11:16

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: "Jose Mourinho is good for the game. He’s a talented manager. He knows how to be a winner and deal with his players.

"He’ll be hurting inside. He’ll be so disappointed in himself at this start. His will to win is so strong. He knows he has to get it right quickly."

Ex-Republic of Ireland winger Kevin Kilbane: "It’s surprising how poor Chelsea have been defensively.

"All of a sudden teams are finding it easy to play through them. Jose Mourinho will be gutted at their start. One or two bits of tinkering is all it will take. I loved to watch them last year – how they were so hard to break down defensively. I think they’ll be back to that soon."

  12. To shake or not to shakepublished at 11:09

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

Chelsea failed in their attempts to sign Everton defender John Stones this summer and the England centre-back is set to feature for the Toffees when the champions visit Goodison Park.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez was critical of Chelsea's pursuit but Blues boss Jose Mourinho said: "The transfer window is closed. I have no more comments. I have nothing to say.

Everton defender John StonesImage source, PA

"What Martinez says for me means nothing. I don't comment.

"John Stones, I expect him to play with (Phil) Jagielka, because it's the normal two central defenders that play for Everton."

Asked if he would shake hands with Martinez, Mourinho said: "You think that's important? I don't think it's important."

Hands up who thought Asmir Begovic had made a howler by choosing to leave guaranteed first-team football at Stoke for the substitutes' bench at Chelsea.

Well, the Bosnia-Herzegovina keeper must be feeling pretty happy with his decision right now after Thibaut Courtois was ruled out for "quite a long time" this week - effectively ensuring Begovic has a sustained run in the first team and an opportunity to make the position his own.

"It is a big blow, it is not easy to have the best goalkeeper in the world injured," said manager Jose Mourinho. "I'm very sad for Thibaut and the team but we have a top keeper and Begovic will be in goal."

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

Chelsea have got off to a struggling start to the season with just four points from four games and things got worse for the Blues with the news that keeper Thibaut Courtois will be out for three months with a knee injury.

I didn't know that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho's future was in doubt but just in case anyone did think it was, he has laid down the law.

"Let's be objective. I don't want to leave the club, in any circumstances," he said. "And the club doesn't want me to leave. I'm not going to walk away. The club is not going to sack me.

"If somebody anyone thinks that I walk, or I leave the job, it's somebody that doesn't know."

Our focus may be on the Premier League today, but it is also an important day lower down the football pyramid, as non-league clubs continue their bid for glory in the FA Cup.

One game that won't take place this afternoon is Frome Town's meeting with Chippenham Town. That fixture was played last night because it clashed with... a cheese show. If you're interested, it finished 0-0.
