Having opened their Champions League campaign with a 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv, Chelsea dropped to third in Group G after a 2-1 defeat at Porto.
Domestically, Jose Mourinho's team - who were Premier League champions last season - have won only three of their nine league matches this campaign, though a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday did see them climb to 11th in the table.
"We need to win matches in the Premier League to improve our position and we need to win points in the Champions League to qualify," said the 52-year-old.
"We know how football is. We have had too many bad results and hopefully now we can move in the right direction."
Arsenal v Bayern Munich (19:45 BST)
Arsenal's visitors this evening are flying. Absolutely flying.
Their 1-0 victory at Werder Bremen on Saturday made them the first team ever to win their opening nine Bundesliga games in a season, and they have recorded 12 successive wins in all competitions.
Pep Guardiola's side have scored five goals in a match on four occasions this term, and striker Robert Lewandowski has scored 15 goals in his last seven appearances for club and country. (FIFTEEN!)
Arsenal v Bayern Munich (19:45 BST)
When you've lost your opening two games in the Champions League the last thing you need is to see a double-header with Bayern Munich on the horizon.
Arsenal are in massive trouble. A place in the Europa League could even be beyond them if they lose home and away to Bayern, and tonight is a very early six-pointer...
The Gunners cannot afford to get beaten. Bayern don't know how to lose. Who blinks first?
