Are Chelsea's problems primarily psychological then? It's always fascinating to see how much of sport, even at the very highest level, comes down to confidence.

Chelsea are so low and so short on confidence. Again, Jose Mourinho has changed his team. In a way, I feel sorry for him. He is looking for the solution and to take the pressure off. As soon as the opposition score, they fall to pieces and crumble. If you talk about resolve, last season it was unbelievable. "You shall not fall," they were saying to each other. It is a different story this season.

Around 20 minutes to go until kick-off in tonight's games and Stamford Bridge is steadily filling up.

On paper, the Chelsea XI looks formidable. It's basically the team which cruised to the league title last season. Can they get even close to that form?

    An alternative view...

Neal Howard: I have got strong connections to two clubs and love both equally. Neither have played each other in my lifetime, if ever at all. I would love a 50/50 shirt for both but I would frame it rather than wear it. If they ever met I would just enjoy the game rather than pick a side. Cue the only one club fans meltdown...

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger speaking on BT Sport on Pep Guardiola's claim that they are a long-ball team: "I would take that with pleasure, we are not often accused of that.

"We did not play a lot of long balls, we played them into Olivier Giroud when he came on in the last 20 minutes [of the first leg] and we used that a strategy a bit. We will play that today if we need to."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho on BT Sport:"We need a positive result for two reasons; for the competition itself but also for the general situation and the bad run of results, so it's important for us."

    Half-and-half scarves

There's always one who goes off when we have a debate. Here's tonight's entry...

Rob Prior: Football is very tribal. H+H shirts are a sign of the gentrification of football that's been going on for the last decade or so.

Big Premier League clubs are increasingly focusing on wealthy tourists who treat games like a day out, much like going to the theatre or a theme park.

A H+H shirt is a souvenir of a specific event, rather than part of being a fan. Who cares who's playing, as long as you get some cool selfies to post on Instagram?

    Nope.

Nothing, not a thing can be decided in Group F tonight.

  16. 'A good test for us'published at 19:14

    Arsenal

Arsenal Arsene Wenger speaking on BT Sport:"We want a result against a top team, so it's a good test for us and I believe it's important we start strong and stick together for 90 minutes with good focus and discipline."

    Half-and-half scarves

Kevin Fleming: It stinks of modern football just like goal music, drums and clappers.

Tom Rozycki: Have some respect for your colours, club history, and the most loyal fans! Don't act like a clown!

Carole Targett: Why would you want one? I support my team not their opponents. If you support 2 teams buy 2 shirts.

Heard the one about Bayern defender Jerome Boateng pairing up with rap legend Jay-Z?

No, honestly. Unfortunately for the neutral it's not at centre-half though. I'd fancy seeing Mr. Beyonce marking Olivier Giroud...

"They have struck up a nice little friendship," Michael Yormark, the agency's president of strategy and branding told BBC Sport.

"Jay is a big soccer fan and Jerome is into music and fashion, those are things that Jay is passionate about also. They both love sports.

"There were a lot of common connection points between the two of them and they hit it off really well."

Per Mertesacker is understood to be working on a similar deal with James Blunt.
