James Ward-Prowse's corner is a good one, arcing into the six-yard box but no Southampton player is attacking it so Wayne Rooney has an easy headed clearance.

James Ward-Prowse whips a free-kick into the box that is well collected in the air by David De Gea.

Back in the side, the United fans chant his name.

    Southampton 1-2 Man Utd

United have turned this game around and almost grab another.

Southampton are all over the place at the back now, as Jose Fonte gives the ball away.

Memphis Depay latches on to the ball and drives a low strike which goes narrowly wide.

    Anthony Martial (50 mins)

What are you doing, Maya Yoshida???

The Japanese defender, without looking, tries to give a backpass to Maarten Stekelenburg, but fails to see Anthony Martial gambling.

Remember what I said earlier about the little Frenchman being cool, calm and collected in front of goal? He was just that once again, waiting for the Dutch stopper to go down, before rolling into the corner.

Shocking defending, but the United fans won't mind.

    Quite a stat.

Anthony Martial has become the third player to score on his first two Premier League appearances for Man United, after Louis Saha in 2004 and Federico Macheda in 2009.

Will Martial last longer than Macheda? He's trying to get the better of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk at the moment. A little and large combination.

    Southampton 1-1 Man Utd

Surely Wayne Rooney will want to touch the ball closer to Southampton's penalty area won't he?

Just take a look where he has been collecting the ball. His long wait for a Premier League goal may well go on, unless he smashes one in from 30 yards.

Trilochan Kang : Man Utd, a team built on counterattack moving as fast as a turtle now on counter. Whisper: Guardiola available at end of season.

Edwin at hand : We need to fix our defence. Blind not the man and LVG not the manager to lead us to glory. Pathetic football.

Phil Bayley : United may not look pretty under LVG but they are so much better than under clueless Moyes.

Meanwhile at Anfield, it's a stalemate. And not the exciting kind.

Probably the most exciting moment of a goalless first half came when Daniel Sturridge saw a stinging left-footed shot palmed away by John Ruddy in the Norwich goal. In truth it was a comfortable save.

Christian Benteke and Sturridge, making his first appearance for Liverpool since undergoing hip surgery in May, haven't shown much sign of forming a scintillating partnership. So far.

Tidy from Morgan Schneiderlin on his return to St. Mary's. The Frenchman attempted 40 passes and completed them all. Steady but unspectacular.

    Steve Claridge
    BBC 5 live

"United went a goal down and could probably have been a couple down but then got back into it with a wonderful piece of skill and after that they have got better. There's still room for improvement but they given themselves a chance in a game they could have been out of."

Matt Targett back on, no lasting damage. Those Southampton players were looking bright early on, but haven't been able to do much in the last 10 minutes of this half.

Anthony Martial starting to cause a few problems now, using his pace to get on the end of a ball from Juan Mata. Left-back Matt Targett was caught in the face there from the Frenchman, so there is a break in play while he recovers.

    One minute added time.

Sahil Oberoi : I hope that's answered your question @SteveClaridge, external about where the money has gone. £36m may not be enough for Martial.

D Baker : Steve Claridge doesn't live in the real world, United needs a complete re-build after Moyes. £250 million is a minimal amount.
